Pop and pour, drank over several hours. Lots of interesting elements: tar, savory saline notes, dark fruit, florals, acid, but each poking out separately rather disjointly at the moment. Abrasive, mouth-puckering tannins. Unlike previous notes I do not find this to be close to ready, though there is a very pleasant lingering note of roses long after you swallow that makes me hopeful. Saving half a bottle for tomorrow.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume V (Chicago, IL): You know what this really reminds me of? Old Dujac. Are there stems here? Is that why? This is so aromatically lifted and perfumed, and there are still wisps of red fruit that give this vibrancy on the palate. Silky texture, this is a fully resolved bottle of wine showing brilliantly.

12/4/20, 1:29 PM - Very evocative note, thanks! How was this decanted?

2016 Di Costanzo Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard Coombsville
Beautiful. Surprisingly ready from the PnP, with notes of floral nectar. With time, impressions of grilled bacon, followed by herbs, mint, sage, a hint of bitterness. Rich dark fruit and some notes of oak balanced by acidity. Hedonistic (though not for a Napa cab perhaps) but satisfyingly complex. Curious to see where it goes from here!

9/6/20, 11:40 PM - Thanks! Yeah, I was quite surprised by how ready and complex it showed. Haven't had a Di Costanzo outside of tasting with Erin in February, when this wine was clearly good and "different" but reticent, so with the recent release felt like I had to check in.

Wow wine, only getting better from here. Intense, beautifully fresh and transparent nose offering great typicity, and excellent complexity. Fabio's expression of this cru is among the best each year; this more so than others. Crazy good. Drink now, or in the next few decades. Brilliant. highly recommended

6/29/20, 9:33 PM - Thanks for the tip! Followed your advice. Felt like it reached its aromatic peak around 1-2 hours into serving, and then shut down. Young barolos are so confusing...
