Has developed well the last years, gained nice complexity. Still very present oak. Hold.

Well balanced, showing nice development. Good qpr.
  • asheio commented:

    1/31/22, 5:55 AM - I would say 90-91 now, potentially 92 with some aging.

Still excellent and mature, outstanding with food - and far more reliable than the Crus from the same source.
  • asheio commented:

6/8/20, 1:34 AM - Interesting comment. Personally I have more or less only had very good bottles from the Crus. Any particular vintages you have had bad experiences with? Or is it more a general experience?

From Coravin. Slight baked red over black berries, fruit lozenge, a little jubey, a little spice and cedar...restrained oak usage after the AF Gros. Sourly juicy, the tannins are foursquare and it's all a bit hard on the palate. As this diminishes some pretty berry fruit shows through. Hmm.
  • asheio commented:

10/7/19, 5:39 AM - Dominode does normally require quite a few years of aging in order to open up. I believe is applies for the 2012 vintage as well. 1999 is still in great shape.

Detectable oak, big minerals, silky texture with long finish. Enjoyable.
  • asheio commented:

6/15/19, 2:10 AM - Louis Michel does not use oak at all, only stainless steel

Very dark. Blueberry, raw potatoes, meat. Intense, polished. Nice fruit, actually on the elegant side. Good acidity.
  • asheio commented:

11/20/17, 4:20 AM - For me this is a quite typical aroma in a young North Rhone. At least here in Norway it is used as an aroma decription :)

Red
2011 Scarpa Barbera d'Asti Casascarpa
90% Dolcetto, 10% rocche (or something I didn't quite catch). Stainless and then bottle aged.
  • asheio commented:

7/30/16, 3:53 AM - This comment was probably for another wine, not the Barbera?

Consistent with earlier note. Still alive and kicking. Do decant, or hold. Nothing much has happened since last bottle.
  • asheio commented:

7/15/16, 3:53 AM - I had one bottle in 2010 which was completely shut down. The next one in 2014 was slighly starting to open, but still very "shy". I have one bottle left, will keep it for 2-3 more years before I try.

2010 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage Syrah
This is a sad bottle of wine. Its Crozes-Hermitage heritage, from a decent year in the Northern Rhone, points to something good, Syrah, by its nature has backbone, real presence, points to something maybe great. Ah, not here. This has a nice mouth feel informed by tired fruit, dull acid and probably no tannins. You would think that a 2010 was just taxi-ing to take off. This bottle is like the 7th hour of 10 hour flight. I want it to end. Over 90 minutes not much has changed. It is a giant "meh". I suppose there is a role for this wine somewhere, but certainly not here. There is no life left in this bottle. Boring grape juice, with a great provenance. Sad.
  • asheio commented:

2/1/16, 1:30 AM - Sounds like a bad bottle, this is normally a very good Crozes.

Dark, earthy, succulent, long and intense. A worthy representative of this vintage.

Lean and elegant body. High acidity.
Very lingering

High quality IGT wine in a burgund-like style. Fermented in concrete vats. Delicious.
  • asheio commented:

9/9/14, 11:47 PM - I definitively agree with your impression of the wine. It is one of my favourites.

Would just like to add that the concrete vats are used for the fermentation process. After that Montevertine stays about two years on oak barrels. However, these barrels are quite old (average 6-7 years as far as I remember), which contributes to the pure and elegant style.

Veldig typisk sangiovesekarakter (moreller & røde bær), saftig, fruktig, syrlig og med lang ettersmak. Perfekt harmoni. Den beste sangiovese jeg har hatt og drikker suverent med og uten Kalvefilet.
  • asheio commented:

8/11/14, 3:25 AM - Montevertine er toppen av Toscana for meg.

1999 Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo Ghemme Collis Breclemae Nebbiolo
  • asheio commented:

4/22/14, 12:05 AM - Bra at du hadde en god opplevelse! Har trukker tre flasker av denne de siste årene, og alle har vært svært lukkede, selv etter mange timer i karaffel.

Surprisingly young and fresh given the vintage. Lots of meat and blood on the nose, made me think of CdP. Exellent now, but will continue to improve for many years.
  • asheio commented:

    7/7/13, 11:15 PM - Hi Harley,
I believe that it will gain more complexity and will still be on good shape in 10 years. Like mentioned it has not the "jammy" character like a lot of other 2003 wines, this one was more fresh.

Blind tasting at Halvor's - ham and cheese combinations (Risløkka, Oslo): Rust red, developed colour. Rich and developed nose. Sweet, cinnamon and red fruit. Juicy and delicate on the palate. Noticeable oak. Long finish with some liquorice. Fresh, good acidity.
In my opinion the oak is a bit too dominant at this point, further aging is recommended.
  • asheio commented:

6/19/13, 1:55 AM - Hi Harley! Thank for the comment! It was for sure a Reserva, so I have changed the wine. I actually brought the Tondonia to the tasting.
