1988 Château Gruaud Larose St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Decanted about 90 minutes, and it was drinking extremely well. I was very impressed with this wine. Beautiful nose, with plenty of tobacco and leather, some deep blue fruit, and some fig. Tannins are smooth an well-integrated, soft. Prunes and more figs on the palate. Yum.

1995 Château Clerc Milon Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Drinking very nicely right now. About 90 minutes in the decanter, and this was a ringer for 90's Bordeaux. Very nice wine. Enjoy now with a brief decant, or age it a bit longer.

Clearly needs a lot more time. Decanted about 6 hours. Really great, a lot of fruit, but they manage to keep some balance. I won't touch my others for at least 3 - 5 years.

Decided on doing a little baby-killing to try this stuff out... and wow was it worth it!

The nose is pure cracked white pepper, and some cooked meats. Beautiful, powerful bouquet that isn't too ripe or over the top. Plenty of fresh red fruit on the palate, with silky smooth tannins. The tannins aren't particularly prevalent. I'd say this is a wine built for near-mid terms consumption. Very, very nice wine. Certainly worth the price tag. Modern, but not over-the-top obnoxious modern.

Modern-style wine, with a fair balance, fruit-forward but maintains a sense of place. Great tannic structure, acid, and fruit profile. Should age well, and improve with a couple of years laying down.

way too young. the fruit is all over the place, the tannin are a bit sharp, lacks focus. should resolve itself with time. sorry i opened it (from magnum).

Still way too young, seems a bit disjointed even after a 2 hour decant. I'll try the next one about a year from now and see if it's improved. It got beat up pretty bad by the 2007 Mas Doix Salanques that was tasted side-by-side

Popped and let breath for about 60 minutes, decanted for 30 minutes after that. Still tight, tannic, and wound. While there are some fantastic notes of dark fruit, fig, and even some leather, it's all still very youthful. I would let rest another 3+ years before touching this wine, the tannin still outweigh a very generous fruit offering. Hold.

wow, what a wine. it's done in a modern style, but not over the top. there's such a tight, wound up complexity that needs time to unravel, but the wine seems to have everything going for it and should age effortlessly. truly a special effort that needs time to show its true colors.

Decanted one hour, poured back into bottle and consumed 3 hours later. This wine isn't ready. Give it more time and you may have something special. The fruit on the nose is still very tight and muted, the tannin are still sharp and not quite integrated yet. There's a lot of complexity, but it's very wound up and tight. Hold.

Fantastic wine. Nose of hay, straw, dry grass, touches of honey, cotton, and some citrus zest. On the palate it's very bright, but bodied with a nice finish that begs for food. Truly a fantastic bottle of wine.

This was a little mustier than I would have liked with the fruit clearly beginning to fade. By no means a bad wine, but it lacked some elegance and body. Mid-palate was a bit hollow. I wouldn't advise holding any longer.

Decanted off sediment, rinsed bottle, poured back in and sealed. Opened 3 hours later for consumption. The wine still had some structure, a trace of fruit, and plenty of tannin. No signs of oxidation. About half way through the bottle (30 minutes or so) the wine died. A very nice, subtle, delicate experience, but still very enjoyable.

Nice earthy nose, some black fruits, a touch of sweetness. The nose is big, but not overdone. Very nice acidity, if not slightly overwhelming, with touches of red fruits. Falls pretty flat on the mid-palate and the finish is a bit lacking. Drank over 3 hours, began to round out towards the end of dinner. I won't open my others for another 6 - 12 months. Right now, the regular reserve bottle is drinking better than this one.

This wine is consistently a big winner for me. It's drinking extremely well right now, I don't see a lot of room for improvement, but no reason to suspect a near-term decline either. The fruit is present but not overwhelming, there is a nice toasty nose with some hints of forest. Great wine, drinking very well.

Very clear Bordeaux influence, unmistakably new world. The wine is very well-balanced with a nice tannin structure suggesting a long life ahead. This was drank from a magnum, I have one more magnum and won't touch it for 3 - 5 years. The wine is drinking nicely, but will improve with some time in the bottle. There is still some very tight fruit being masked. Looking forward to having the next one in 2016!

Beautiful cali cab made in a more traditional style. Not your typical fruitbomb, fantastic QPR. not an in your face wine, wel made with a subtle hand. Nice earth notes with just the right amount of bright fruit, nice tannin, good balance with a nice smooth finish.

A touch of earth, on the dry side, some burnt toast on the nose. Good, not great. I'm not a fruitbomb guy, but this seemed to be lacking in fruit all around, and could maybe have used a touch more acidity.

What an experience. The nose was pure cracked white pepper and bacon fat. You could smell it from 3 feet away. Deep ruby color, fantastic fresh fruit on the palate, very juicy, and a nice balanced finish that went on and one. The tannin and acid is present and should bring this wine along for several years, but I don't know if it's worth waiting for. Certainly an OMG wine.

This was a very well-stored bottle. Once the funk blew off it was really quite nice. Some great secondary characteristics on the nose, very smooth and integrated tannins, a touch of fruit left on the palate. A wine that is clearly past its prime, but still VERY enjoyable. In a night of mostly young Cali Cabs (2002 - 2006), this was some people's WOTN. If you have one that has been well cared for, open it without hesitation and enjoy it, it's quite very nicely.

Nice straw color, medium bodied wine. Upon opening there's a great balance between body, acidity, some crispiness, and even the faintest touch of sweetness. Over 2 hours though the wine became a bit flabby and fat. The brightness sort of faded away and the wine became a little heavy and touch. Nose of petro, some lemon, and maybe golden apples. Nice wine, needs food, and should be served on the cooler side.

Decanted back and forth a few times because the alcohol was really coming up big on this. I wouldn't suggest opening this wine for at least another 6 - 12 months. There's a lot of potential, but right now the heat was masking most of the vanilla, mocha, and fig undertones. The heat was present on the palate as well, masking a lot of the fruit, but the tannins were present, helping keep the wine together for some time. This bottle wasn't corked or flawed, I just think it's a wine that needs more time to come together.

This is what the mean by a wine at its absolute peak. Opened, let breath for about 90 minutes (not decanted), and poured. This wine is in its absolute perfect drinking window. On the nose, I can't imagine ANYONE picking this out as a Napa Cab, it's purely Bordeaux. The black fruit is there, but this is all leather, some forest floor, bark, and just a touch of eucalyptus or some other leaf. It was the only characteristic that hinted at Cali Cab, and it was very subtle. I've never had a wine with such perfectly integrated tannin. The wine was pure silk, more leather on the palate, with a touch of fig and a fantastic finish that must have gone on for over a minute. Truly a classic Cali Cab.

When first decanted, it was pure bacon fat on the nose. After a couple of hours in the decanter, it was splashed back into the bottle, taken to dinner, and back into a decanter. Nose was gorgeous. A great crushed pepper, mocha, leather, and raw meat nose. Absolutely beautiful. There was a touch of blackberry and maybe some fig, but the others were the primary characteristics. The mouth was still tight and tannic, but the tannins are silky smooth. The fruit is present and lush. This wine will be an absolute rockstar in 3 - 5 years. Fantastic wine. Towards the end of the night (about 5 hours of being open), the nose was almost pure mocha / espresso. Gorgeous.

My last bottle, and it was off. I won't say it's a fair representation of the wine, I'll call it a bad bottle. It wasn't necessarily corked or spoiled, just not showing well. Had this been my only experience with this wine i'd write it off as a bad wine.

nose was not very well-defined or complex. mostly mushy fruits with no real character. decent body, tannin were a bit sharper than previous experiences. sad it was my last one.

Gold-ish color. Nose shows a lot of hay, some apricot, even a little honey. Not very well-versed in CdP Blanc, which is why i picked it up. I felt like it showed a lot of age, and begged for food. Paired well with a hearty fish dish. Nice body, could use a little acidity to brighten and crisp it up a bit.

I liked this wine a whole lot more than I thought I would.

The fruit is ripe and fleshy. The wine is very juicy. Very ripe red fruit, but not loads of extraction. Very easy-drinking wine. A lot of maraschino cherries and the sweetness of dark chocolate, without the finish our mouthfeel. Easy wine, crowd-pleasing. Yummy.

Opened this, immediately poured half the bottle into an empty 375ml and put it back in the cellar. Drank the first half and thought it was a nice wine. Good nose, a bit flabby on the palate with more earth than fruit coming through.

One week later I opened the second 375ml and this thing was bangin'! The fruit on the nose meshed in a bit with the earthy notes and the acidity and tannin smoothed out and were singing on the palate. Great nose, fruity but well balanced in the mouth, and a very silky finish.

Sweet baby jesus! Gorgeous nose showing nice earth, but with raspberries and cooked red fruit showing through, maybe even some blueberries. A touch of oak that went very well with the food. On the palate there's a new world juiciness, nice fruits, a solid structure. This was a bit of an eye-opener for me. Should age well and improve a bit. Great wine.

Really nice nose of some earth, some bush, blueberry, and fig. This wine is really very nice. I'm trying not to take the price into account, because I paid $15 for this, which really makes it fantastic. Outside of the price though, it's a very nice RB bordeaux that will drink nicely for the next few years. There is a nice tannin presence and enough fruit hanging around that should help this thing survive the next few years. Wish I had more.

I love Tablas, but this wine just seems out of balance. The fruit is a bit over extracted and comes across like more of a mash up of fruits. Sort of a mucky fruit nose. Enjoyable at the right price, but a considerable drop off compared to previous vintages. Still have a few left, I won't touch for another 6+ months to see if it rounds itself out a bit.

Pretty typical Oz shiraz. People used adjectives such as "frosting", "dessert wine", "caramel", "sweet chocolate", etc. Well made wine, but only serves a very specific purpose - although it is a crowd-pleaser

Quite a bit more red fruit than I recall. Still a nice wine, with some rubber notes, a little hot, and a nice finish. Not too light on the palate. Well made wine, should improve with a few months in the cellar as a few elements still need to work themselves out. Good wine, especially for the price.
