There was SO MUCH BRETT in this wine that it was difficult to tell what else was in the bottle. I can usually deal with a little bret (very little!), but this was extreme.

I've had 5 bottles so far. The 2011 is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (Rutherford, St. Helena, and Howell Mt.). The rest is Merlot and Petite Verdot. Decanted and tasted immediately -- then let open up for an hour before serving. The Trujillo opens up a bit softer than it's predecessor, Karl Lawrence, probably because it's not 100% cab.

The color is a beautiful, dark purple. The nose has hints of tobacco and leather -- but is mostly berries and earth. The mouth feel is silky and very well-balanced, and there are hints of chocolate and dark berries along with a wonderfully long finish.

I expect I'll be enjoying this release for the next decade or so....

Really liked this wine. Lots of cherry and dark fruit both on the nose and in the finish. Great ruby color. Nicely balanced. Thanks for the great bottle, Mark!

Inky, deep purple. Berries and leather nose. Still an amazing amount of fruit with a solid tannic structure. I'll wait another year before I have my next bottle. Wish I had several more cases.

Magnum. Decanted for an hour, consumed in the fabulous Schott Enotica glass. Ruby-slipper red under the lights. Dark fruits and pipe tobacco on the nose. Raspberries and cherry compote leads to sour dried cherry finish that's oh so long and silky smooth. I love the fact that this wine is so earthy yet so balanced -- it's clear winemaker Trujillo isn't overworking the wine in the lab like so many of the artificially filtered and chemically altered wines that seem to be the trend these days. But wait -- isn't this the much-maligned 2003 vintage? I must find more of this... 750s are ready to go now, but this mag has so much more to offer...

Wow! Beautiful color, amazing nose (berries, tobacco, leather) with long, integrated/balanced finish. We had a Cliff Lede Diamond Mt. along side the KL, so the superiority of the KL was readily apparent.

Beautiful color, nose and flavor. Lots of dark fruits -- plenty of tannin with a nice chorus of berries for the finish. Seemed like the best wine of the night -- until we opened the Karl Lawrence, which went to 11.

Consumed over a 2 hr period after 1 hr of decanting using Schott Enotica glasses.

Double-decanted and left to open for 2 hrs, this amazingly well integrated wine smells great and has a wonderful, full finish. Hints of tobacco and lots of dark berries and forest on the nose. Well-balanced tannins and bushels of fruits on the long, long finish. Consumed over 4 hrs in amazing Schott Enotica glasses.

Solid effort, but feels like this wine needs another 10 years in the bottle. Unfortunately, doesn't taste like there will be fruit to balance the heavy forest flavors. Planning to wait another 2-3 yrs before trying again -- and hopefully the fruit will come out of hibernation by then...

This very well may be my most favorite bottle of wine ever. Decanted and consumed over 3 hrs. For some reason, there was very little sediment. Dark, inky purple. Tobacco and dark stone fruits on both the nose and the extremely long finish. Incredibly balanced. If I were stuck on a desert island with an infinite supply of the 1999 Karl HL Reserve, I would be a happy man...

My ideal day would include pizza and a bottle of the 05 KL Morisoli Reserve! Set bottle upright for 2 days, decanted, and then drank throughout a 4 hour window in a Schott Zwiesel Enoteca Bordeaux glass. This wine is incredibly integrated with generous dark fruit flavors and smells and a finish that stays with you until your next bite of food or next sip of wine.

Quite disappointed by this wine. At least it was a gift. ;)

The color looks great, bit there's quite a bit too much sour cabbage on the nose, and the finish, while long, is a bit too bitter.

Karl Lawrence comes through again. Brilliant, well-integrated wine. Decanted and consumed slowly through 3 hour window.

Brilliant dark red; huge cherry, pomegranate, leather, smokey nose; and a long, full, smooth finish with good acid, balanced tannins, and lots of fruit.

One of my last 375s. Huge, beautiful wine. Drinking even better than the 750 in the vertical last week (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), and the 2004 was picked #1 by most of the SAS folks. :-) (Not me, though - 03 and 05 were my favs.)

I've kept this bottle near 52F since I got it at release day. Ruby red, awesome nose (dark fruits, leather) and long finish. Drinks as though it's at its peak, as the acid/fruit balance is silky smooth. Time to drink the 750s...

Wine continues to improve -- and impress. If I could only have one wine to drink for the rest of my life, I'd happily accept the 2005 Karl Lawrence. Deep color; red and black fruits on the nose with light leather and pencil lead. Incredibly balanced, beautiful mouth feel. Lots of tannins to balance intense fruit, long finish. Ummm....

This is drinking wonderfully. Makes me long for the 'good old days' of Silver Oak when Justin had control and quality was high. Decanted w lots of residue left in bottle. Cherries and leather on the nose; beautiful balance with nice acid/tannins; incredible, long finish.

Much, much, much better than when I last had a bottle (which I gave 89 points and noted it was short on finish). Wonderfully silky and smooth with stronger-than-expected dark fruit flavor, balanced tannins, and a lip-smacking, long-lasting finish.

It must be time to drink every bottle I have because I can't imagine it getting much better....

(BTW - bottle stored at 51 for years, adjusted for sediment several days before decanting, then consumed 0.5-3 hrs after decanting in Schott Zwiesel Enoteca Bordeaux Crux.)

Exceptional wine at its prime (note 6L bottle stored at 51F).

Decanted from 6L bottle into 5 gal water bottle 2hrs before party. Cleaned 6L bottle and returned wine. (Huge, crystal-like chunks in the sludge, btw.)

Tons of character, great color, bright red fruits on nose, smooth as silk mouth feel, completely integrated. Most of the guests refused to move on to the next wines until this bottle was empty. ;-)

After reading the other tasting notes, I was concerned this would be all bark and no bite. Thankfully, my experience was different.

Cellared at 52 degrees since purchase, decanted, then enjoyed in Schott Zwiesel Enoteca throughout a 3 hour window.

Deep ruby with hints of purple color. Cedar, cherry and plum on the nose. Nicely integrated flavor, good mouth feel, nice and smooth with long cherry/raspberry finish.

Glad I have more bottles -- but time to drink.

Decanted 30 minutes then consumed over 3 hours.

Drank blind along side 99 Karl Lawrence and another completely unworthy wine.

We stopped buying Silver Oak after the 97 release because quality dropped significantly in subsequent releases. This wine is a classic Justin vintage and has everything we loved about SO: ruby red, outstanding nose, balanced, silky finish.

WOTN. Decanted for 30 minutes then consumed over the next 3 hours.

Beautiful red-purple color; intense cherry, tobacco, leather (with a hint of rose petals) nose; intense fruit and finish. Great balance. Difficult to find areas for improvement. Best between 1.5-2.5 hrs, but incredible peaks throughout.

BTW -- the only times I've had Karl Lawrence wines that weren't amazing were when the wine was served hot (above 70 degrees), stored hot, or corked....
