So smooth....
This is right up my alley ...
Nose is reticent on day 1...
Day 2 reveals some blackberry & black raspberry, some violets with slightest hints of gravel...
On the palate it's very smooth with the Grenache & Syrah blending together into beautiful blackberry & raspberry seamlessly integrating mineral & structure showing the backbone of what I believe must be some whole cluster fermentation done just right... Everything is in balance here.... I wish I had more than my last 2 bottles to follow this wine's evolution over time...
It's great with some air in the short term but I think this could be really special in the long term

Popped & poured with prime rib Xmas dinner after our planned Barolo was found to be corked. The poyferre was tight to start & not offering much. Over the course of an hour it slowly opened up and although the bouquet still failed to open up the palate revealed subtle dark fruits with dominant notes of pencil lead & graphite. There was a medium body with a medium finish highlighting notes of menthol & mint. My sister couldn't get over barnyard notes on the finish which I failed to pick up. Although it was interesting I was expecting a little bit fuller body & fruit profile with 2003 being a hot year.

brick red with pale red-brown on the edges.... initially feared it might be corked.... closed on the nose initially, but opened up with a little air to reveal soft red fruits and slight herbal notes. very little fruit on the palate with a short spicy finish. underwhelming mouthfeel and was expecting a lot more.

beautiful ruby/crimson surprising to my friends who were expecting dark black inky syrah..... nice bouquet of raspberries, black cherries and fresh forest elements with hints of sage. tart fruit on the attack with smooth plush mid-palate supported by core of minerals and acidity. nice long finish with herbal elements hinting at high elevation fruits.... great balance of fruit, acidity that's really up my alley. kept me coming back for more.

Floral nose of white flowers, peaches, and tropical fruits. Nice balance of stone and tropical fruits with smooth core of minerality on the mid palate and perfect amount of sweetness on the finish. Finish was a little shorter than expected but kept me coming back for more. Was surprised how quickly we drank this. Nice complement to Neal of baked salmon & sides of fresh raw baby turnips and green onions.

Drank at dinner at Slanted Door in San Francisco. Beautiful bouquet of grapefruit, wet stones, minerals, and hints of apple. On the palate, great balance of acidity balancing sweetness of grapefruit, apples and touch of melons. Beautiful play of acidity on the finish kept surprising me of the balance for such a ripe year for spatlese. Wish I had more...

dark purple with clear edge at the rim. blackberry on the nose with slight hint of briar and oak providing interesting nuances. nice blackberry fruit upfront with fine tannins nice integrated with smooth finish. Surprised at how smoothly this drank and enjoyable it was for the price. EAsily overlooked among other syrah offerings in this price range in my opinion. well done.

pale gold straw color with notes of lemon, toast, and minerals on the nose. nice fine beads with aromas that developed a little butter toast with air. lemon, grapefruit citrus fruit on the attack tightly wound around a core of minerality on the palatte that integrates more evenly and allows the slightest hints of toast to emerge with time. finish was somewhat short-lived although i expect that's due to the youth of the wine. will revisit the next 2 bottles in several years to see how this evolves. overall nice champagne to accompany a meal of belgian endive salad and roasted halibut in white wine sauce.

Have had previous bottles over past year all with consistent notes.
Last nite shared with friends as an accompaniment to baked tilapia.
Nose: initially reticent apple and lemon notes, that opens up with air to reveal additional layers of green apples, lemon, mineral and stone accents.
Palate: initial apple, lemon, citrus notes that is supported by mouthwatering minerality and nice acid on the backbone. Medium body that finishes with combination of citrus melon and crushed rock notes on the smooth long finish. One of the more thought- provoking wines that I've had in recent memory that makes me want to savior the finish before going back for another sip. Enjoyed it thoroughly and will be on the lookout for more

Extremely disappointing.... Drank one bottle last weekend and one bottle this past weekend. As opposed to previous post, no real fruit emerged throughout the evening of both nights drinking this wine. Sediment still hadn't settled to bottom after a month of sitting upright, so filtering wine was key. On the nose, no real or significant bouquet emerged over 4 hours. I normally prefer tannic wines to fruit bombs, but the disjointed palate, lack of any clear vegetal or fruit profile leaves me wondering why I paid for this wine. I don't see myself drinking my other 10 bottles, but rather using it for cooking...

aromas of melon, lemon, slate that come through on the palate and nice acidic finish. finish was highlighted with a lentil soup and controlled nicely with a meal of clams and pasta with marinara sauce. overall very food friendly wine and i'm anxious to see how this develops in comparison to some of the richer 2007 rieslings in my cellar.

Since last bottle drunk in fall of 2007 - the wine has evolved nicely. Aromas of smoked oysters with hint of asparagus. Nice integration of flavors since last bottle (slightly disjointed) with improved focus - smoked oysters integrated with hints of cherries, cedar, graphite. good structure and finishes with nice grip of firm tannins

popped and poured from 58 degree cellar.... initially tight on the nose, after about 45 minutes, opens up nicely to reveal focused blackberry, black currant with tar and smoke on the nose. on the palate follows with blackberry, black currant, tar, and smoke with roasted mocha coffee on the finish. the creamy midpalate seamlessly advances into the finely grained tannins on the finish. the structure of the wine continues to expand with air. drank over 4 hours and it's drinking beautifully.

nicely expanding aromas of roasted cherries with smoke and mocha with hints of leather - much more attractive than strong ripe strawberry and cherry aromas on last tasting this wine in june 2006. on the palate, builds and evolves nicely on the palate with complex cherry, tobacco, soil, and chocolate with hints of briar on the finish. matched a meal of pork loin beautifully. i wish i had another bottle as i believe that this wine is peaking with its secondary flavors compared to a year and a half ago when the ripe fruit flavors dominated the flavor profile with hints of the secondary characteristics to come.
