Agree with the other community notes. Terrific wine at a fair price. We are typically white french Bordeaux lovers. We have been looking to find other regions we can buy with the same confidence. Not enough data points to says we have found it, but this is certainly delicious either as an aperitif or with food dinner wine. I plan to add a few more bottles to see how it evolves. Great balance, acidity and nose. Something about the straw color appeals to us as well.

2/15/19, 3:35 PM - 600+ years of wine making from these bottles, but forget the data, keep drinking their wines...reds are phenomenal too & the much cheaper, wider release of their 2016 Chardonnay is really great as well, not to mention made easier to enjoy at sub $20 per bottle.

A migraine Chardonnay all the way through. Steely and astringent alcohol-laced lemon water topped with 9V batteries wrapped in green apple skin. Finishes bitter and hollow.

Best as a Xmas party white elephant gift for coworkers you dislike.

2/1/19, 5:34 PM - Too funny, and effective as I’m trying to find some lowered priced, but decent quality wines for a future anniversary I’m planning for. Needless to say, the La Crema is no longer on sampling list, unless of course the Excedrin is also on sale.

2/3/19, 2:18 PM - Hahahaha!!! You’re killing me! Too funny!

If you’re not already, you’ve definitely got a future as a party planner! Wisdom like that could potentially save pending newlyweds thousands on their celebratory events, though you’d likely get little to no thanks from them in the end.

Btw, opted for the LJ Macon-Villages Chardonnay for the party, and even purchased some of it, as well as their Beaujolais release, already. I hadn’t tried it in many years, and was amazed at how good actually is, as well as their Beaujolais, and for only $12 a botttle too.

Thank you for both the humor and the recommendation that more than helped in avoiding the Creme de la Creme of headaches!

    Cheers!

2016 Château Tour Saint-Christophe St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend
Theres something unpleasant about squeezing Merlot too hard and it shows in this wine...Drank alongside a 2015 Dufrey Vivant from Margaux, it was almost unpleasant, especially in the bouquet. It came across hot and racy, but it was clearly a powerful wine. What was killing it next to the Margaux wine was the bouquet. It had chicken coop features (not to be confused with barnyard/brett), like what a Monstrall/Mourvedre throws off. I just received my case and my magnums and I'm a bit deflated and miffed. I won't rate this until I try another bottle...XXX

2/2/19, 8:03 PM - I’d be curious to know if those off putting scents dissipated over time. I just ordered a case myself, but wont ship for at least 2 more weeks.

  • BadaBingAgain commented:

2/3/19, 2:06 PM - Thank you both for follow ups! I’ve never tried it before, and while I usually don’t fall for the ratings BS, I have to admit, it’s what’s lured me to my purchase. Hopefully they’ll be good enough to avoid the transfer over to the ‘future gifts’ section of my cellar.
    Chin Chin!

Stellar one-year-old GSM, "El Colo". Light bodied. PnP at dinner and no formal notes other than hard to put the glass down. Blends light drinkable joy with intellectual depth. Excellent value. Buy if you can, drink now or hold a few years.

2/2/19, 4:29 PM - Hey buddy, just a FYI- there’s not much out there left to had of this stuff. Zero in the Bay Area, and the only spots still selling it are Henry’s in NYC and a spot in Florida I believe that I’ve never purchased from before. If you’re not already stocked up, this two spots may have the last of the last left. Cheers!

2009 Clos Saron Syrah "Heart of Stone" Sierra Foothills

PnP immediately the nose and palate are rich, nearing opulent. Dark and earthy, with uplifted berries you can feel between your teeth. Firm structure. Complex. 2009 seems an expressive vintage for Clos Saron. Ready to drink today (with air) and into the 2030s. Ended up purchasing a case. Highly recommended.
  • BadaBingAgain commented:

12/21/18, 4:18 PM - I wonder if maybe you’re referencing a different release year, as the 2009 I had was of a different blend, 90%/10%. I’m certainly not trying to nitpick, I’m just curious if there’s maybe another version to this release from 2009. Cheers!

  • BadaBingAgain commented:

1/24/19, 3:42 AM - Since the Black Pearl is essentially a Syrah as well, its an easy mistake to make with the Heart of Stone, especially if you have to recall either from memory.

I’ve enjoyed the Stone Soup & Heart of Stone releases immensely, as well as with every variety I’ve tried thus far, but the Black Pearl releases have been my favorites; likely since my first encounter with Clos Saron was with a bottle of their 2008 release, which re-awoke my love of wine again, so that love of first sight, or taste in this case, is going to be hard to top given the fond memories seared to it; plus, I read and loved ‘The Black Pearl’ book & read it couple times during my grammar school days :)

I’ve enjoyed reading the notes of yours I’ve come across this far, and have definitely used the info contained in choosing some items, so thank you! I curious to get you opinion on Villa Vallecito wines and more specifically, their Barbara & CabS releases, if you’ve ever tried them. A cousin of mine really loves their wines and has been a big advocate of theirs as he’s also friends with the owner/vintner husband/wife team. Have you tried any of their wines before?

  • BadaBingAgain commented:

1/24/19, 12:11 PM - Yeah, I just got the notice for April’s lunch & dinner tasting event, and I’m planning on going barring any unforeseen reason I can’t attend. I went to Clos Saron a few weekends ago for the first time as Gideon was kind enough to allow me to come visit their very beautiful place.

If I do come as I intend to, I’ll bring a bottle of the Villa Valliceto for you if am able to get some prior to the event.

    Cheers!

Cork perfect, vinturied w/decant, still has vibrant color, no rust seeping in yet, massive oak concentration at this point, mid in the mid palate, thin in end unfortunately, not enough tannin/fruit to hold off the oak.
I probably miss the window..although really holding up,well for a 20+ Napa can, just under engineered for the long hall.
Drink now.

1/24/19, 4:15 AM - k&l in Redwood City has a few of these for sale on consignment right now @ 80 per. I was strongly considering buying 1 or 2, but since I have to choose those types of buys wisely given my limited resources, I decided to hold off and check for any recent updates to its current conditions. That being said, thank you for this posting as it made my decision to take a pass from them that much easier. Cheers!

2016 Château Roquefort Blanc Bordeaux Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend
Nice acid/min balance with a light tannic & thinly sweetened finish. Worth every penny and more. Day 2 was even better.
  • BadaBingAgain commented:

1/23/19, 11:17 PM - Found a few more bottles today, which I happily purchased. K&L isn’t always the cheapest spot, but their knowledge and available inventory of high quality/low price wines, makes paying a little more for on certain wines well worth the occasional few extra bucks. Is it better to save on the basics, having to use a coupon to do so, from WallBev type stores, but getting zero to worse than zero in breathe of knowledge on the unknowns? Speaking for myself, not even close. I’ll happily pay the occasional small difference in price, as all other differences far out way the extra dollars spent.

2014 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain

Acidic, tart and full of dark mountain fruit. Slow ox for five hours followed by a long decant. The thing that initially struck me was how much different this vintage was compared to the earthy and strong tannins of the 2013 vintage. Dunn is a most unique wine compared to its neighboring Napa fruit bombs, the obvious result of a refreshingly low alcohol content. Well structured with a very long and lingering finish, this wine will be several points higher with a few years behind it. Too young now to show its stuff, but with patience and time... lots of time, the 2014 Dunn will likely compete with the the top tiered wines of this vintage.

Clos Saron / Gideon Bienstock @Terroir (Terroir Wine Bar, SF): Carignan. Slight peanut (mousiness?). Fresh on the palate with red fruit and slight bitterness on the finish. Diminished tannins.

12/26/18, 4:45 PM - I think he may have found it to be an unpleasant chair. If taking notes is a worthless thing to do for a $35 wine, I wonder what he thinks about someone who reads notes taken on $35 wine, not mention those who comment against notes taken on $35 wine. I know what I think about anyone who bases their conclusions on something’s worth based on it’s price tag, but voicing such an opinion to him would likely be as worthless as a notebook of notes written about the bargain section at BevMo, if of course the notebook was his.

Worldwide Pinots (Sunfish Cellars, St. Paul, MN): Tasting pour. Nasty medicinal, bandaid nose, cherry cough drop, lessens somewhat, but still pretty rough. Mike insists this is correct. Ok, you can have it. No desire to get past that.
