Incredibly licorice layered, anise and rose petals, dark fruit for a 39 year old wine, long finish. Tasted with Burg Al and others at Knightsbridge

Typical Cote Rotie: gamey, black pepper, bacon fat medium body, improved with aeration.

Still bright, classic tar/roses, medium level of tannins, very typical traditional barolo holding up well, very enjoyable but overshadowed at Kailin's 50th by a massive, incredibly floral 64 Montfortino. I scored it 92.

Very Croze-Hermitage like with surprising acidity masking what would be typical riper California styled syrah with a dose of black pepper, hints of animal smells and bacon fat lying subtlely under a fair amount of blue and blackberries. Balanced, but light-to medium tannins and flavors on the taste with a medium finish.

Fairly monolithic and backward, chunky and muscular after2 hours decanted. Aromas of clove, tar,red licorice, rose petals contribute to a medium intensity on the nose. Red fruit and still cool from the cellar (could have benefited by further warming) with sharp tannins indicate further aging will benefit. My score 94.

Elegant and harmonious, aromas of lead pencil, dark, red currant, nice wet-rock minerality with medium-long finish. Served with roasted turkey/sweet potatoes/persian rice. Would have benefited better accompanying meat and/or cheese. Pulled from my 55 degree/humidity controlled cellar.

Originally flabby, tired when first drunk, after a few hours it became more balanced, long and lusciously laced with honey, dried apricots and baked apples.
