CC Bday Wine Dinner 2020!: Black fruits, tobacco, dark chocolate. Silky, well rounded and powerful. Tannins fully resolved. I enjoyed this a lot tonight. Was surprised when it was revealed to be a Mouton 1991. This must be one of the best of the vintage! This ties in at no. 3 tonight, alongside the Les Forts de Latour 1990.

4/22/21, 7:23 AM - Thanks for this. Now I should really try the ‘91 Latour. Really agree that the difference and class show for the top houses.

Saturyay Chill'!: Blind tasting. Black fruits, mocha, espresso beans with a tinge of wet violets. Quite dense and velvety on the palate and took some time to open up, but was worth the wait. Nice black truffles and bitter chocolate on the tertiaries - this is really just entering its prime (with some fats). Enjoyable today already but I would give this more time to develop. My WOTN!

Post CB Long Night @ CH & KC's: Needs more time.
  • dnnk88 commented:

7/11/20, 1:24 AM - I would say 1-2 more years would be good. I feel it’s not bad already but should improve with more time.

SS's Frenchie! Wine Night: Lots of tertiaries going on, especially with some air. Chrysanthemum, white tea, flowers, herbs, wet rocks, mint leaves. Great showing!
  • dnnk88 commented:

7/10/20, 12:18 AM - I would say to drink soon. There’s some oxidation going on in the bottle we drank, so I’m not sure if it’s a bottle variation.

1st CB Wine Night - The Leovilles: Foundations are there, good stuff. So much potential. Needs more time though

5/2/20, 7:16 PM - Definitely got the goods, totally agree that it either needs a lot of airing or just more time!

Spontaneous wine night: Great showing and stylistically unlike previous Montroses that I’ve had.

4/2/20, 12:07 AM - Just read through your comments, Mark & Joel. I too enjoy Montrose and Cos D. Haven’t tried the 1996 Montrose but I’m keen to test it out now haha. I had the 2004 Montrose and it was classic ok but not fantastic. Cos D 2006 is drinking really well now; I have the 2003 but have not popped open 1 yet and may do so soon.

CNY Wine Night @ Chef Kang: Black fruits, forest floor, black cherries, blue berries, spices. Aromatic. This is still tight tonight though. Keep this away for 3 years at least

1/27/20, 3:52 AM - Food was awesome - try the fish soup, crispy pork belly, salted yolk prawn roll, pipa duck, Hor Fun, coconut ice cream!

70’s Bordeaux Blind Tasting: Final bottle; outside of the 70’s line-up - Nose of black fruits, vanilla. Tasted black fruits, black fruits liquor, riped plums, black currant, grape skin, tar. This was tight. Slightly tannic. Didn’t do it for me tonight. Needs at least another 3-5 years.
  • dnnk88 commented:

9/1/19, 5:04 AM - It sure needs more time! More decanting would have done this better as well. The foundations are there

Drank from magnum: Cassis aromas, with slight lychee tertiaries. Tasted black fruits, gravel with bitter and minty finish. Tight and austere. Not for me tonight. Definitely needs more time - keep away for 5-8 more years at least.
  • dnnk88 commented:

6/2/19, 9:33 PM - I think that should be about right! It’s really too tight now, doesn’t do it justice to open now.

Plums, red fruits aroma, with corn tertiary. Dark fruits, gravel, grape skin on the palate with leather tertiaries. Rather strong on alcohol; tannins very much alive. Finish abit lacklustre and flat though. Wasn’t impressed tonight. Shall revisit in a few more years.
  • dnnk88 commented:

4/22/19, 9:09 PM - Haha I think there’s potential. Was slightly overwhelmed by the tannins and alcohol tonight. Will pop another older vintage if I can get my hands on one!

2nd try: Wow again - cake, liquorice, dark fruit bouquet. Tasted dark fruits, mint leaves, liquorice. This is broody with a long lasting anchoring menthol and iron aftertaste. Rounded and silky. Superb. This is in its prime.
  • dnnk88 commented:

4/12/19, 5:45 PM - Yes you should! 2nd bottle and consistently good as the first

Herb, soil, blackberry bouquet. Tasted plums, dark fruits, grape skin, espresso, liquorice, mint. Eucalyptus, herb and leafy aftertaste which lingered. Fresh still with slight tannins which helps bring out the flavours. However, after awhile, the alcohol started taking over and the wine seemed to close down. Tried decanting but didn’t develop much and remained tight. This didn’t do it for me tonight. I reckon 5 or more years should do this good. Hold
  • dnnk88 commented:

3/27/19, 8:49 PM - Haha yes more time should do this good. I was honestly looking to be blown away but not this time unfortunately

Lemonade with floral undertones. Fresh, rounded, lemon, with slight oak. Felt like a mid day spritz. Good. drink now
