Popped and poured. Ten minutes in the glass and this wine was singing. Fully integrated and still plenty of acid. Drink now or hold a few more years, but it’s not getting better.

WOW WOW WOW! This is one of the best QPR wines I've ever encountered.

90 minutes in a decanter. Gorgeous dark purple color--yet not opaque. No rim variation. Medium body. M+ acid, M to M+ tannins that are velvety, not harsh.

Still youthful, yet perfectly balanced with notes of fresh violet, ripe blackberry, ripe cassis, black cherry and an earthy undertone of dried sage and autumn leaves. Hints of mocha appear in the late finish. While it's drinking exceptionally well for it's age right now, this wine will age for another 5-15 years.

Tannins are just beginning to integrate and acid is still M+. This wine still has a long life ahead of it. Notes of dark fruit--dominantly black and red but some blueberry appearing after being in the decanter for 90 minutes suggests a hint of Petite Verdot has been blended in. Inorganics are dominated by rocks--wet river rock and gravel. Will hold remaining bottles 5+ years.

Wine is fully resolved. Funk, slightly muted dark fruit, pepper, many organic earth notes. It is drinking beautifully but once the bottle is opened you want to drink it within 90 minutes or so as it will begin to fall apart.

Delicious! Nose of blackberry pie with some forest floor, baking spice, other dark fruit. Nicely integrated, smooth tannin and good acid, I'm not sure it will improve and it's definitely well into a drinking window.

It's probably not going to get any better. Tannins are fully resolved. Tastes older than it would seem on the nose. Black fruit, just black. Almost a roasted black plum, black cherry cola, slate. Paired well with NY strips. Pretty massive wine in a new world style. Might have a couple more years before it starts to go south. Not as good as other vintages I've had of this wine.

In it's absolute prime. Opened for about 30 minutes before first glass. Didn't decant. Stunning nose of black fruit, damp soil, baking spices. Intense expression of terrior, very much old world style wine making with Diamond Mountain fruit profile shining through. Very complex layers and notes and the wine continued to evolve from first sip to final. If you have them you've got another year, maybe two before they begin to decline. I'm glad I chose not to decant, although there was a lot of sediment in the bottom of the bottle at the end which needed to be avoided. Very sad that this was my last bottle. 50+5+15+18+9

50+3+13+17+8 This was a very, very interesting wine. When I popped and poured the first glass, I thought it was flawed--oxidized. Cloudy (unfiltered/unfined with significant lees stuck to the side of the bottle) and a deep lemony golden color. As the wine warmed up a bit, it began to show it's true self. It had red apple--ripe, dry, thick skinned MacIntosh. Also a bit of pear and quince. Cinnamon came through on the finish. French oak. It had a hint of rust, and some tertiary notes of soil, rock. Very complex wine that I liked more and more as it opened. By the third glass I was wishing I had bought a case. Drink now or in the next couple years, I think it's peaking.

Funk. Macerated dried cherry, cranberry, black raspberry, grilled meat, smoke, wet granite, charr d herbs and smoke on finish.
High viscosity, medium body, medium water band.
Might not be quite peaking, but close. Nice complexity with good balance.
Perhaps a bit too much smoke as the only downfall.

50+5+14+18+8. Intense nose of black fruit, ripe blackberry, ripe cassis, slight jam mines and hints of pie crust and baking spice. Palate confirms nose, surprising lack of sediment, well balanc d acid, fruit, French oak, tannin. Secondary characteristics beginning to show but still fruit driven with hints of sweetness. Very pleasurable. Will hold last bottle for at least another five years.

This isn't going for another 15+, but is far from being over the hill or near that as some notes imply. It's got another 5-8 years of life. Still slightly youthful, tannins could become more integrated. Slight stemminess that should mellow with a few more years. Lot's of black fruit, cola, and spice. Integration is solid, good balance, good complexity, good representation of terroir. 50+5+13+17+8

I could smell the black and blue fruit from two feet away after I poured the first glass.

Dense Ruby/crimson color. The wine is clean with no flaws on the nose. Tight water band. M+ body.

Nose of blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, baking spice, very ripe and juicy. Hints of wet earth and forest floor. Smoke.

Palate confirms nose. M+tannin. M+ finish. Medium complexity. Slightly out of balance.

Could definitely use a few more years. Next bottle in 2018, not before.

50+5+14+18+8 What a nose! Decanted about 60 minutes, aromas were present from two feet away while decanting.
Full bodied, high alcohol, M+ tannin, beautiful ruby day bright with slight rim variation. No flaws, no signs of gas. Light sediment. Nose of ripe juicy blackberry, ripe black plum, dried roasting herbs, vanilla extract, smoke, black licorice. Palate agrees with nose and adds ripe black cherry, shale, dill, black currant jam, some baking spice. There's a lot going on here, nice complexity, well balanced. Fruit appears as western or southern exposure (northern hemisphere) mountain grapes due to ripeness. Very expressive. Balanced despite the high ABV. Outstanding wine. Drink now or age another 2-5 years.

Massive herb with dill and tarragon, some limestone, slight vanilla. Dry, low acidity, medium finish, medium complexity. Very enjoyable. Fantastic QPR. Love how the French can use some oak without making it into a buttery heavy mess.

50+5+12+14+6 On decanting I was surprised at the almost total lack of sediment. Clear, bright, ruby, concentrated. No evidence of gas or sediment, medium body, no rim variation. Moderate nose of bright red fruits including tart red cherry, raspberry, vanilla, leather, baking cocoa. Tobacco appears on the finish. Dry, medium tannin, medium+ alcohol, medium acidity, medium+ finish, medium complexity. Well integrated. A good example of a Napa cab with valley floor fruit with nothing that stands out good or bad. In many ways the wine appeared youthful, however the lack of acidity and tannins made it clear that this wine was not going to age longer and was at or perhaps even slightly past it's peak. Drink now or for the next one year. Decant unnecessary. Represents good QPR for a Napa Cab.

Dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Lemon and apple, pear Lifesaver, some tartness, very fresh with purity of fruit. Limestone with hints of salinity on the finish. Slightly under ripe pear shows up again and lingers for quite some time. This one could age five years before it hits the peak.

At first this bottle was amazing. Perfectly integrated, great balance between primary and secondary flavors. Three hours later, it was a mess. The fruit was gone and a charred smoke was the only thing left. This was not a flawed bottle. Not going to get better, drink them if you've got them. Score on opening would be 92+. Three hours later 82 being generous.

50+5+14+17+8 Beautiful golden color, aromatic nose of petrol, sherry, mushroom, baked yellow apple, and a nuttiness. This was smooth as silk on the palate, where marzipan and hints of spice also appeared. Body was medium+, acidity was low. Very complex. Alone the wine wasn't winning anyone over. Paired with French Onion Soup--it was stunning. Drink now or hold for a dozen more years.

Notes of white pepper, black and red fruits, grilled rosemary, vanilla, toast, baking spice, dried leaves, black tea, and leather all appeared on the nose and/or palate. This wine got more and more complex as it opened. Perfectly balanced acids, fruit, and tannin. Will hold the last bottle for two more years, and expect the score to rise.

Clear, Garnet with bricking showing on rim. Bright. Medium tannin, medium alcohol.
Nose was stewed fruit--prunes, blackberry, raisin. Vanilla and baking spice notes with a slight hint of pie crust. Some notes of caramel made an appearance on the finish. At first opening there was structure, an hour later it was just a flaccid mess.
Time has not been kind to this wine. Drink now before it's too late. Very disappointing for a 2005, a vintage that is generally just entering it's prime in Napa.
