Medium gold colour. Nose starts out with notable oak and palate is disjointed. However, the wine pulls itself together in about 15 minutes. Nose show ripe yellow apple, but the oak never goes away completely. Palate is intense with long finish. The oak also does not go away completely, but is acceptable.

Very enjoyable wine. First bottle of this wine for me as far as I can recall. Deep gold colour. Forward nose mostly giving the impression ripe fellow plum and honey, smoky notes. Despite this nose the palate is very balanced, fruit not overripe, full bodied and long finish. Acidity is just right. Very good food wine but certainly interesting enough to sip on its own. Ready now . Not sure where it is heading from here.

I have been a fan of this wine since the 1990 vintage. This was, unfortunately, my last bottle of the 1990 and it has been a long time since I had the previous 1990. It needed about 10-15 minutes to clean up on the nose but then it was a crowd pleaser. Medium garnet colour, slightly opaque. Pure Sangiovese nose of forest floor and dark cherry. There is a lot of complexity to the nose and kept changing over the three-hour lunch and ending up with nice earthy notes. Purest fruit at about two hours after opening. The palate was balance, pure, structured, with virtually no tannins, yet no lack of structure. Though the nose began to fade the palate balance hang on till the last drop. Such elegance. I wonder and I worry about what the newer versions of this wine at 15.% plus alcohol will be like after 33 years.

This bottle really showed the importance of storage and provenance. This bottle was bought upon release from the agent and stored in a proper cellar since then. In my view, this bottle had another 3 to 5 years to reach its peak and them life beyond. The level was still in the neck, but slightly lower than high fill. The colour is more like 5-year-old wine, medium to deep garnet, no hint of fading at all. Dark red and black fruit on the nose, the cabernet showing its presence but the forest floor of the Sangiovese also came through. The palate is bright, fruit driven with soft ripe tannins still showing. Long balanced finish. May deserve higher score in the future.

Medium garnet colour, opaque. Red fruit and with just a hint of blue fruit and touch of cedar and tobacco on the nose. The palate is rich and smooth and balanced. No detectible tannins. Elegant and refined.

This one showed as well as I had hoped. Medium to deep gold. Very similar to my notes of 2023 /07/08. Yellow apple, lemon zest, almond and minerals undertones on the nose. The palate just delivers elegance; nothing missing, nothing out of place. So pure.

No detailed notes taken. Company’s Christmas dinner. This drank just as I had hoped. Still showing lots of dark red and black fruit but somewhat subdued, with added complexity of wood, marzipan and chocolate.

No detailed notes taken. Company’s Christmas dinner. This was the standout among the red wines. Dark red and black fruit notes with earthy notes complexity. Palate is focused with intense fruit flavours and corresponding acidity. Long. Just beginning to approach drinking window. I would give it another 10 year or more to reach its peak.

No detailed notes taken. Company’s Christmas dinner. This one held its own among a decent collection of old-world dinner wines. Just hitting its stride. Dark red and black fruit driven nose with just a touch of oak. Palate is intense, balanced, complex with long finish. Not sure it is getting much better but will keep for a decade and likely more.

Colour indicates the age appropriately, deep tawny. Nose jumps out of the glass; very complex, dark red fruit, black olives, earthy notes, herbal notes. Palate is sweet with the dark red fruit balanced with acidity, and surprisingly, ripe fine tannins are present in the background. Overall well balanced, almost silky. Long finish. At its peak but not dying any time soon.

Re-union dinner with the B&W group at Bymark. One of two wines tasted blind. Same as the other “blind” wine, deep garnet, no sign of brick around the rim. Dark red and blue fruit with earth notes. Palate is intense, yet balanced with lingering fine tannins and good balancing acidity. Very enjoyable. At its peak and better than the bottle I had last year.

Re-union dinner with the J&H group at Bymark. One of two wines tasted blind. Deep garnet, no sign of brick around the rim, but maybe that was the room light. Forward dark red fruit and black fruit and earthy notes and cream. Palate is totally integrated, no tannins to speak of yet the structure remains. High acidity balances the fruit and carries on to a long finish. This wine is at it peak but no signs of dropping off the edge. This may have years left.

Deep tawny colour and opaque. Forward nose of medium red and black fruit and earthy complexity. Really had to search for the roses and truffles. Palate was silky, smooth and balanced; tannins barely present, very fine and ripe. Long finish. At its peak but likely good for several years yet.

Drank together with Domaine Chevalier Montrachet at Bymark, blind. Deep gold. Very forward citrus, pear and pineapple, with lots of complexity. Wood totally integrated. Palate is mouth coating, with great acidity, balance and long, long finish. What a treat. As DG noted, it was like two race cars pulling out going through the gears and ultimately the Montrachet had one more gear.

Drank together with 2011 Domaine Montrachet at Bymark, blind. Deep gold. Very forward citrus and pear with some exotic fruit complexity. Wood totally integrated. Palate was mouth coating, with great acidity and balance. Near perfect , except for the comparison to the Montrachet. What a treat. As DG noted, it was like two race cars pulling out going through the gears and ultimately the Montrachet had one more gear.

Medium ruby and translucent. Dark red and black fruit with spice and earthy notes. Palate is structured, with good fruit intensity, ripe, soft tannins hanging around and good acidity providing balance and very good mouthfeel. I think this is just entering prime time.

Medium ruby. Forward, black and red fruit with added complexity of green peppers and earthy wood notes. The palate was clean, bright red and black fruit with just a touch of green peppers. Soft, ripe fine tannins surround the fruit. Very long. Very enjoyable. Not sure where it is heading from here so I would drink up. It is that good now.

Cork was on good shape but very hard to remove in the restaurant. Not sure if this was cork or staff issue.
Medium tawny colour , which seems appropriate for this wine. Nose just jumps out of the glass; very complex with the mid red fruity, spice, rose petals, and mild leader complexity. This alone is enough to make it a great wine. The palate is refined with fine tannins in balance with the overall weight of the wine and the fruit and acidity in balance. Almost ethereal and very traditional at the same time. Approachable now but I think this will be developed for another three to five years and then coast some.

Colour does not indicate ten-year-old wine. Deep ruby with no brick on the rim. Little shy to start but opened up within ½ hour. Lots of dark red fruit with complexity added by with herbs. Paleta focused and fine tannins are still present supporting the fruit structure. Wine kept improving to the last drop. Lots of time left in this one but truly enjoyable now.

Deep tawny colour. Classic nose dominated by tar, dark red and blue fruit , with lots of other complexity - fig, spice and ending with a rose petal note. Palate showed just how relatively young this wine is. Intense, tannins still notable, ripe, but ever present. Very long finish. The oak never quite dissipates, both on the nose and palate. Another 10 years will benefit this wine.

JMOORE431 has is absolutely right, if anything I found even more fruit in the wine than his notes imply. Hard to believe since it is almost 7 years since his note was posted. Dark red cherry, plum, blackberry, raspberry, touch of wood, earthy notes, rich palate that coats the mouth and still some very fine ripe tannins show up at the end. This bottle was shipped directly from the winery two years ago and has been resting since. One of the wines I will remember for pure hedonistic enjoyment rather than cerebral excitement.

Drank over several days. Deep ruby colour. Black and blue fruit, herbal and iodine notes. Delicate dark red fruit on the plate, anchored by fine ripe tannins and just the right amount of acidity; slightly bitter note on the end. Reminds me of Leoville Barton with just little more fruit. Although approachable now, this wine has another 3 to 5 years to go before it reaches maturity and then it will coast for a while.

Pale ruby, almost transparent. Forward nose of red cherry fruit with earthy wood undertones, pure. The palate is silky, yet structured, very fine tannins still present, mid-palate very satisfying and trails of to a long balanced finish. This wine is as elegant is it gets. Just entering the prime drinking window but the structure suggest it has many years to go.

Colour does not give away the age for what is essentially a Chianti. Medium to deep ruby; forward nose of pure dark fruit, mostly cherry with a hint of earth and balsamic notes. Palate is rich, balanced, with little more complexity of forest floor. Decent finish. Such pleasure to drink and many years left.

More than 3 years since I had this particular vintage and I was afraid it may be over the hill. Pale yellow colour. Forward yellow plum, gooseberry and lemon with some grassy notes. More advanced than the recently tasted 2018, but still intriguing. Palate focused, balanced. Good finish. This may be slightly past its prime, but still very enjoyable.

Very dark ruby. Forward dark red and blue fruit, dark chocolate, herbal note. Palate is balanced, mix of dark sweet fruit, so pure, and forests floor; good acidity balance and fine tannins. This one has a long life ahead of it. I suggest at least ten more years and even then it may not be at it prime.

Part of a side by side tasting of the 1994 Hill of Grace and 1994 Mount Edelstone at Bymark. Medium garnet colour, opaque. Opened up right away with red fruit and with just a hint of blue fruit, touch of cedar and milk chocolate. The palate was rich and mouth coating from the first sip. Very focused, balanced, no detectible tannins but that did not take away the structure and focus. Elegant, refined and long. I cannot pick a winner. Both were in goosebumps territory.

Part of a side by side lunch tasting of the 1994 Hill of Grace and 1994 Mount Edelstone at Bymark. Deep garnet colour. Slightly shy to begin with but started to open up fairly quickly. Dark and with just a hint of blue fruit, touch of sandalwood, chocolate. The palate started out very focused, almost lean with a slight herbal note, but filled in quickly. By the end of the lunch (2 ½ hours) it was perfectly focused, very fine and ripe tannin barely notable, elegant, refined and long. I cannot pick a winner. Both were in goosebumps territory.
