Fantastic QPR from Costco. Dark fruits and spices dominate followed by solid but subtle tannins. A great everyday drinker.

The cork crumbled while being extracted. Decanted for about 3 hours. A nice deep purple/dark garnet coloring when poured. Then it got really good! Lots for dark fruit, a hint of chocolate and a rich sweetness only a mature port provides. A very long finish, incredibly smooth.

1/19/19, 5:56 PM - Thanks for the review. Just realized I had one sitting in my wine closet. It's dusty and perfect from the year we moved into this house. Will open tomorrow with pictures. Should make an interesting sipper this week.

Cedar nose with cherry; coarse with earthy cherry; tannic support but mature with a moderate finish.

This wine is greatly improved from previous tastings. Soft, full of flavor, reasonable finish, definitely what a solid pinot should be. Wish I had additional bottles.

Another year has softened some of the rough edges, but still young. Very drinkable if you like your Tempranillos young and hearty, but needs lots of air: breathing and decanting.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken and blinds (Chicago, IL): Believe it or not, I actually had a bottle of Chianti. I thought that this was actually showing quite well. It had a nice mix of green herbs and earth, with barely enough fruit to keep things in balance. The palate is obviously a bit abrasive and young, but there was some good material here -- I especially liked the dustiness on the finish.

1/13/17, 11:41 AM - I'd be shocked if this is more than a shadow of the wine to come. In a good vintage 8-10 years should be your starting point with Rancia. Hope you have a few more bottles stashed away :)

One of my favorite value wines. Wonderful cranberry nose, a gentle fruity Margaux-like mid and a long structured finish. Perfect.

3/5/16, 4:04 PM - That's so funny this showed up. Was going to open the 2005 but went with the 2009 Espirit De L Eglise for Lamb Shanks. Apparently the 2005 is drinking very well still.

Have had these sitting in the cellar for a couple years. This was surprisingly good! Had I known they were this good, probably would have been gone a long time ago! Great balance. Exceptional wine for this price point.

PNP, let it air out in the glass throughout a lengthy consumption. Powerful, thick aroma of dark fruit and subtle spice; very good. Taste of dark fruit, cherries and plumb. Some cocoa, and slight spice and woody component, thinning slightly in the mid palate (due to the primary grape being cab franc?), but the long finish had loads of smooth tannins, with a bit of cocoa, smoke, and cherry. Very nice now, may go a little longer, YMMV.
