Nose - mushroom, green pepper, graphite, dark fruits

Palate - dark fruits, currants, smoke

Medium-full body
Finishes medium-long

Drinking at peak, but I’d imagine will hang here for a bit. A great claret for the price.

Incredible nose of tobacco, mint, graphite, mushroom, and some leafiness. All tertiary at this point. Black cherry, cured meat, green pepper, and iron on the palate. Medium weight - finishing very long. An extremely complex wine showing well at peak.

Strawberries, black licorice, cherry on the nose. Sour cherry, balsamic, a touch of earthiness on the palate. Medium body but a bit thin in the mid palate, medium finish. Really simple Barbaresco and a bit one dimensional. Though paired well with some sausage pizza. Did well with a decant. Could use maybe a bit more time.

Destined for a long life, was concerned about alcohol percentage - though this wine is extremely well balanced (like many other ‘19s), everything in its place. To me GPL reached super second level this vintage. Just a hair under Pichon Baron at this point (which I would consider my wine of the vintage).

This was a fantastic wine and experience. I’m a Burgundy newbie - and this was one of my first really enjoyable experiences with the region. Nose was fantastic: forest floor, mushroom, red fruit - currant particularly, animalic funk, fig (as it opened). Medium Body, acidity was still humming along. Savory with red fruits on the palate. Medium-Long finish. A harmonious wine firing on all cylinders at the moment, if you can find a well stored bottle- jump on it.

Definitely at a good point along maturity. On the nose mushroom, earth, cedar, cassis. These aromas smell quite deep, really beautiful. Red fruit, tobacco, mineral, savoury flavors on the palate. A classic Bordeaux profile, lower alcohol (12.5%).

In between a medium and deep garnet. Acidity in check. Medium to full body. Long finish.

Bought this from an auction put on by one of my favorite wine shops with the age.

Think this has a good 5-10 more years at this level, if stored properly.

A heady wine, massive depth. Burnt butterscotch, honey, earth, petrol, and peach on the nose. Acidity is insane - at a level you would expect in a much younger wine. It’s weighty on the pallet and is almost oily, probably feels that way as the finish sticks with you forever. The layering of flavors here is deep - marmalade, apricot, mushroom, and honey. Quite a bit of minerality as well.

Golden/caramel color.
High acidity.
Weighty/full body wine.
Long and expansive saline finish.

This wine was impressive and to me has decades ahead of it. I think the winery itself says you can cellar these for a century.

Top tier wine and the price I paid for it with age ($66)- a massive qpr.

2012 Château Beauregard Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
5/6/2022 - Vinum_04 Likes this wine:

This is a pretty good qpr Pomerol imo - though price is starting to creep up a bit in recent vintages (though I feel that quality has as well). Beauregard has one of the higher proportions of Cabernet Franc in Pomerol, the split for this vintage was 70% Merlot - 30% Cab Franc. Looking at Bordeaux in 2012, I feel that Pomerol is the strongest.

Nose has black fruits/berries, earth, truffle - quite round on the palate, with flavors of plum, spice, and cocoa.

Medium Acidity.
Medium-full body.
Medium-long finish.
Tannins still need to integrate a bit.

Drinking well now, though has many years ahead of it (thinking through 2035).

This is drinking well atm though this has a long life ahead. Tannins present but refined. Dark cherry, dried cherry, florals, cloves, licorice, and leather on the nose - really beautiful. Smooth mouthfeel, acidity in check, medium body, medium finish, no noticeable alcohol- a very balanced and well made wine, will let the others sleep a bit.

This is a fantastic wine. Balanced red fruits, earthy, and savory. Glad I picked up a case of this, this should evolve for a number of years. A great value.

2016 Château La Tour Figeac Lucie 45 St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Needs a bit of time to come around, though has some good bones. Got a bit of heat on finish but hopefully this will integrate after some time.

Firmly traditional and built for some time in the cellar, improved substantially on second day.

A well made wine though a little one dimensional, there are better values at this price point. Though it’s been exciting watching this estate gain momentum in recent vintages.

Alcohol a bit overwhelming- that said, not bad - but not necessarily my tastes for a weekday/quaffer wine.

This has really settled into itself. This seems to just be entering peak and will most likely hang here for a number of years. Excellent showing - leather and earth on the nose, black fruits, medium-full weight, long finish.

For 11 bucks, this wine really punches above price. Lemon, some minerality, crisp

As this developed through the dinner it got better and better. Silky mouthfeel. Smoke, spices, a bit of pepper, red fruits but towards the end some darker fruits emerged. Wish I had more of this - has a lot more room to run if properly stored.

This is really well done, agree with Fowlers note below that this has a rich mouthfeel. Finishes longer than expected. Minerality on the palette, acidity in a great place. Peach and honey on nose. Assume this will improve up a point or two for my tastes after a couple years in the cellar.

Great value here, needs to open a up a bit before consuming. Quite austere to start but gains weight in glass.

Really nice quaffer- earth and tobacco on the nose, medium palate, lacking a bit of fruit which some may not enjoy

Might be past it’s life or the wine is faulty- getting strong VA and also reduction notes (cooked cabbage)

Closed at the moment, I’d say 2-3 more years of resting will help it begin showing its stuff.

Wow superb qpr, let this open- funk and alcohol blows off and is really drinking well right now- mushrooms and dark fruit on the nose, mid-full body on the palate - seems like it could possibly develop more- long finish.

This is a very unique/particular style that I’m just not a fan of. The first bottle I had I actually exchanged for another because I had believed it was flawed- though this second is the exact same. Lacking any fruit whatsoever, bitter and watery on the pallete, wet dog smell on the nose.
Red
Nice wine with more structure than anticipated - to my palate this needs time- will probably not touch these for a couple of years.

Brought for thanksgiving dinner. Baking spices and cherries on the nose. Cherries and earth on the palate- a bit jammy but not overtly so. Acidity still going strong, tannins integrated.

Very solid wine- I love this style, the nose on this is a head turner- smoke, bacon, black pepper - reminiscent of Northern Rhône. Palate is medium weight and spritely- there is also a savoriness to it. Quite a bit of brine as well and closes with a saline finish. I believe this is replacing “The Hermit” in the Pax lineup- and is somewhat of a second wine to “Sonoma Hillsides” - which I haven’t given a spin yet but will in the near future. I haven’t been excited about a wine in this price range in a bit of time- hats off to Pax Mahle and team. This is ready to go now and should hold for a number of years, I would agree with the drinking window of 2020-2029.

Tasting experiment from a 375, great wine but quite closed at the moment, started to open a bit as I was finishing it up. I’d hold for a bit before cracking any of these open- 2024+ seems appropriate.

Truly exceptional wine, the complexity here has no bounds- Mourvèdre weighs heavy on this blend. I’ve had this twice and it’s amazing now and has decades ahead of it.

Would decant for around an hour+ at this point- great nose and body. Have a few more bottles, will be interested to see how this does with some bottle age.
