4/1/24, 12:50 AM - Hi, I Belize the VV was done only once, and it was the 1990 ... since then, never made again
4/1/24, 12:36 AM - had older vintages nowhere near that one... quality has risen or just one hell of avantage was that one 🤷
2/11/24, 7:54 AM - only 90 :)
12/26/23, 10:01 AM - I have checked datas about that vintage on the Napa vintners and all the journalist s sites to compare ! it's BS, no rain during harvest, a lot in spring so I just don't get what happened during growing season for them to say there was mildew and harsh vintage conditions, sure it was alate ripening but it did wonderful wines so far , but the wine I had was Wonderfull ! just like you
12/26/23, 9:44 AM - cool ! hope the wine was great as much as was that one I had ! lemme know once
12/19/23, 11:15 AM - deiss sure is very disappointing IMO
12/19/23, 10:51 PM - guy is a pioneer ! you sure cannot do nada companero :) I have old Deiss too, and it did got ox quickly enough ... You are courageous to taste all those mediocre wines BTG wherever you go man :)
12/19/23, 10:49 PM - time of what please ? Will age easily for a decade more IMO, I did open it and tasted straight, if opened, then aerate, or even decanter it for a good hour I believe. I ll post more after event tonight ! will have feedback from customers too Cheers
3/21/23, 11:38 AM - love that comment :)
3/21/23, 12:21 PM - Tanto generoso que la ponia 2 veces no :) Still a great comment ... Salud
12/18/23, 10:39 AM - Bordeaux Blends can be astonishing regardless where they're produced ! My best experience so far has been from Australia in that case. Still I have Wonderfull emotions with Classico's and Sangiovese wines from Tuscany. This being said, that wine was really uninteresting to you ?
12/1/23, 12:18 PM - decadent !!! hell yessss
10/16/23, 12:04 AM - Hi Unsure about that, I would need to taste again more recently, but from the area and vintage I'd say best around 8/10 years from now. Remember it s a cooler vintage, and oak is present but well integrated so it has a capacity of being ready young when well aerated, it really depends on your personal background as a taster. I mean, if you re Cab Lover from CA when young this would not be a worry to enjoy when doing so, but on the contrary if you're more into light Pinot and do not like new oak and tannins, well, waiting is an absolute necessity. Still it's more of a acid driven vintage than fat oily one... classic old style I'd say.
10/7/23, 2:19 AM - just like Jus... its not a 67... must be a mistyped number... otherwise a 67 is a flawed or very bad quality wine
9/24/23, 8:36 AM - Wow, I have know that one for over more than a decade now, and seen th d'inflexion in the winemaking, and yes it is getting better and better, lighter in oak, and tremendously precise, but man 95 is quite a mark here ! I believe 21 is more on the fresher side too as for a colder vintage. Anyways, it's likable wine that made its way on very prestigious tables and bars even in France ... wink, wink
9/28/23, 12:19 AM - I believe the terra-cotta is being used more and more since the 16 or 17 vintage and less barriques, so as a matter of fact the wines get more reduction, and lees aging in a different ways, so they gain in "complexity", tightness and even if they are quite ripe grapes, it tends to get more "Burgundian" in style. So I understand well the difference between two vintages like those 2 you are referring to ! It has a tremendous follow in a top very top restaurant/bar in Paris right now ! Where every one think its French btw :))))
2/19/23, 11:17 PM - Right ! Like I said I need to have the shuttle of marks settled, to lie to be on the 95/100 it needs to really stand out which rarely happens honestly, lots of really great wines are in a 90/95 range to me which in Europe could rate like between 14/16 out of 20.... to be the 17/20 it has to have the little something that makes the difference. Still I must admit I m not that much of a critic and need to arrange that in terms of future endeavors :) Anyway thanks for the comment , appreciate
2/19/23, 11:25 PM - Altogether as many seem to enjoy those wines, and style, just one last comment, those wines can go way further on the aging scale... like 8/10 easily. But if you don't mind little oak and want to still enjoy the fruit character go for it !
2/22/23, 8:43 AM - Thanks finlero, much appreciated ! I will post more of those WSET style tastings as you guys seem to really enjoy that. I believed it was a bi too much and way to "squared" as there is little emotion in there :) Anyways, regarding your remark, it might be true actually, but I really liked it very much in the middle of the other 2 which were way less interesting to me. But to go to a higher level to rank a wine, I need personally to have one great emotion which I did not get there. About Rioja my every time favorite wine was Remirez de Ganuza with age, visited the estate in 2011... and imported them for a couple of years after that. We had a vertical tasting of GR and some older Reserva. It was just unbelievable ! 2004 was insane, and 2001 maybe the best Rioja I ever had...But by that time I still was able to taste oak, and was still bordeaux lover... now my taste has changed, maybe improved ? And when I open some Ramirez I find them awesome but soOOO young ... and I just would like to have a 20+ yo of them. Same with Remelluri which we visited as well same year. Remember in those areas it is a bit like Port, 04 and 07 and 01's often stand out :) don't ask me why, it just happens ...
2/22/23, 10:41 AM - AHAH just do it ... Get one, but remember it will be modern style for sure ! Ripe and Bold Tempranillo :)
9/24/23, 7:38 AM - Hi, I ll probably make another note up on the vintage trend, but I had another bottle in August, out of "tasting context" and man, it was superb again, layered, complex, and well aged, it certainly deserves a 92/3 you were right. It stood out in the tasting alongside great wines, like Rockford BP, some Bordeaux, etc... Really a style of its own, quite a unique wine. I need to cellar some more of that one ! BTW I m in MW program now, so I need to taste even more Rioja and wines from around the world, what a shame :)
9/28/23, 12:14 AM - Mark, I ll tell you after I visit the estate during the fall, one of my goal now ! Since I really need to figure out the style differences within trads and moderns, and even more. We had 2008 recently and it was quite impressive too !
9/24/23, 9:02 AM - That winery tends to give me a rollercoaster feeling... I had tremendous wines from them, especially a magnum of Pianrosso 2010 but most I have tasted since, both in my cellar and at the estate or on fairs are really uneven... unsure about why, I will investigate deeper, as it is fairly interesting to discover if there is a fil rouge here ?
9/21/23, 8:01 AM - hmm means yum ? or is it just ok ? :)
9/18/23, 1:07 AM - Thanks mark, It s just the beginning of the journey ... the hardest is to come ! still its worth the try I guess ! Cheers Stan
9/8/23, 9:02 AM - depending on your market ! :) but in Italy it is around 65/70 € which is higher than previously but still a good price point considering the cru ! Villers is the only cru to have the Submerged cap in the winemaking of Barolos ! so it has a little extra difference with the other crus lol
9/3/23, 3:46 AM - Hi do you buy those at Martel ? still I don't understand their price point policy, as I sell those to wines to wine professionals at this price point... The "normal " price would be around 75/90 euros retail , which eventually is decent I'd say. Bought my first ever bottle down under at the estate for less than 3O AUD back in the day :) Same day I bought St Hallets Old Block, which is a mother great buy around that area ! Cheers
7/21/23, 1:42 PM - yes you should ! just like you I always forget how good that is until I open one and feel like... why :) so is it with the red
7/2/23, 12:29 AM - Dude !!!! 71 is a poor note here... if you like it that much, it should be within 85/90 range :)))) Cheers
6/20/23, 10:49 PM - man 80 ! it's obviously zero dosage and written on the label... gotta let it breathe a lot as well ... this baby s has been shut down for at least 8 years :)
6/20/23, 10:21 AM - Like other comment it has nothing to do with storage, I have had some of his wines for a long time, and there is always been such problems, so is with Leroy ... I store them perfectly , really
6/16/23, 11:38 AM - another converted one by the greatness of sémillon from Hunter Valley... :)This is a must have right ? Blossoms, nuts, beeswax, honey... and so zingy palate ... 11 % alcohol, I never understood how and when/where the OZ's had the idea to pick that early and make a Hell of a wine for the long haul ... bu they did
6/16/23, 11:28 AM - good on you not to give to the one that shouts louder than the others... It is one Wonderfull wine, and will be extraordinary in the future... tasted it a couple of times and it is both great site and great vintage. what more to ask for ???
5/19/23, 7:55 AM - Hello, What do you Mean by "the winemaker did not like it" please ? The winemaker at the estate ? thx
5/19/23, 10:45 AM - oHHH was it that strange to him... damn
5/3/23, 3:40 AM - Glad you liked it thanks mate
3/13/23, 12:26 PM - 3 % cab Franc here mate :)
3/13/23, 12:44 PM - I was check the datas from Napa Vintners when writing :) it is 3 % indeed ... 6 % in 2019 and 2020 ... maybe another cuvée has more CF
3/13/23, 12:51 PM - maybe wrong numbers from Vintners, or mistyped... morley site says about 20ish ... anyway I found that wine undrinkable :)
3/13/23, 4:30 AM - I was wandering around and found that 76... just like the other user I believe it might be more than 76 at delicious, or do not use marking system please. I ve been to the winery lately and tasted many wines... this could be 85/88 to my reckoning ... user upper, you should have reported it if you feel like it is not the good answer to the wine. Still remember it is just a "forum", community, so not every body here is fun the wine business, and more over able to rank wines
2/27/23, 11:36 PM - funny that was when I discovered the wines from Julien as well ... It was a good surprise at that time.
2/23/23, 1:10 AM - Possible right. For the record, most wines of the flight were opened for at least 3 hours, or the day before. Ile feray 2020 was from day-1 and was oxidized already
2/19/23, 11:12 PM - It can age for a while that is for sure... Guttierez. tends too rate pretty high just like every critics now ! I m still balancing my marks and try to find the best way to organize it properly :) some may have given a 93+ or so. I must be a coward markwise :) I have kept older ones as well, such as 06 and even from 90's when I discovered first the estate.
2/20/23, 10:19 AM - Don't get me started on the two latest... mostly JS !!! Enjoy the world of wine !
2/18/23, 1:33 AM - acidity out of balance means too much ?
2/16/23, 4:04 PM - mostly saying that the people giving marks are really ranking too high, for example all the 2019/2020 wines at 12/15 E in Baden have more grip, complexity and fun than that wine. everything needs to be put into perspective in life, and if that wine is 92/93 well what is a 95 ... old Parker marks of the !Ã 's gave a lot of 85/88 which are basically pretty good marks, and 90+ were for great to outstanding wines.. little 95+ anyhow....just saying it was just good basic pinot not worth 92+ marks ... from a wine expert and pinot lover perspective ! cheers
2/18/23, 12:37 AM - Right ... it s more of the scale used and as nowadays everybody uses the American University 100 scale we should all consider how to reclaimer it properly :) I have struggled a bit to make it right as I mostly used 89 to 93 which is not broad enough IMO, so I thought better of it and started with the WSET poor, acceptable, good, very good, and outstanding... if you think about it most wines featured in CT are VG or Outstanding... and then what ? Another scale used and interesting is the one from French forum Les Passionés du vins, which goes with Poor/Defect... Good, VG, Outstanding, Exceptional etc... and there you ad +++ so it can be VG +++ or Good + just to have a bit of clarity ... so what I meant is the fact that scaling is hard and mostly recently people even judges or journalists tend to go higher up the scale... but in the 90 s where the Scala was used more wisely I reckon... well a great Bordeaux scaled 88 was still good pick ... under 85 was more questionable. Only incredible wines should be 95/100 but really one of a kind. and the 85 to 95 gives a broader range of possibilities than the 90 to 100 ... because in the end it goes from 85 to 100 :) Most of basic wines I taste I don't event put in here but there would be some 82 to 86 which are mostly in a 6/10 E/$ range and are ok fro an every day kind of drink ... to have an idea it should be interesting to have like Jacob's Creek chardonnay, some white zin's or Roche Mazet rated to figure out the scale of evryone's taste ...
2/18/23, 12:38 AM - re caliber and not reclaimer .... bloody board :)
12/30/22, 11:11 PM - Ahah sausagy typing I know that one too 😜🤪😂
11/6/22, 1:51 AM - Yes got you.. But still I believe I am a decent taster and have some knowledge about wine in general, still the wine did not show much to me and I did want to share that. Tanks for the reply and comment
9/29/22, 5:20 AM - Hi I believe those wines are not anymore aged in barriques, still there is a bit of small ones, but it s more of a mix between botte grande and some smaller oak vessels
8/31/22, 12:52 AM - I had that one a couple of times through Coravin as well, it turns out the opening helps A LOT... It reveals much more than the Coravin, I was really thrilled to have it open properly in the end :)
8/25/22, 11:23 PM - kept it for a while aside and tasted along the line, never really improved or showed more fruit on the nose but the "natural" side took over on the palate with more Brett and off tastes... so far a disappointment according to French reviews of that estate... RVF grades it very high and OP (Olivier Poussier) is the one who works on that area nowadays. He really is not onto those type of wines, need to try another bottle or visit the place to make an opinion.
8/28/22, 1:43 AM - haha so it changed a lot.... thanks I did not have the update :) best regards mate
8/30/22, 2:49 AM - guide is out already ??? it should be only on September 1st no ?
8/31/22, 12:48 AM - ahhh yes pretty smart to update subscribers first ! in store yesterday as well... will buy to compare but it seems most of estates I commented and liked got quite a stand out :))) I still have so many tasting sheets to update and write down so far ...
8/25/22, 11:20 PM - kept it for a while and tasted along for a couple of days, never really opened up, dry tannins still, solid body and structure, not showing very much ! disappointment
8/22/22, 12:01 AM - since we tasted a lot more Oregon lately and during some fairs, I have to be more specific, most Pinot from old CA regions like Carneros are a bt too heavy and wooded... Sonoma Coast, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz, all fresher areas are mostly incredible examples of well made PN, at some cost. Oregon is most often too oaky and improves a lot within time... going its best within 8/10 years keeping a fantastic fruit. Warm years don't help and warm places either... Napa and Sonoma turns out to be now a bit in that area of very warm places for PN... I still have some of those bottles and they will be tried in some further tastings I organise, see what happens along the road :) That year was a Pinot searching in other European wine regions, where climate is mild and within last 10 years or so conditions, Germans, Austrian, Sud Tyrol are clearly showing greatly and some of the most interesting valued wines are there. When Crus in both Germany and Sud Tyrol are still a bit oaky the entry level wines are astonishing values and show the greatness of this variety when simple and straight forward, fruit, acidity and earthy character ! It s all somewhere in my note books :)
8/18/22, 11:01 AM - Same here, this wine should be rated way higher as it is one of the best wines from the area, probably up too 95 some times !
8/18/22, 11:00 AM - I d rate that higher now, int was stung, so up to 93/94 maybe
8/18/22, 10:50 AM - This got way better after a long time kept over Coravin ... developed in some complex ripe or cooked fruits, good side of it. Not jammy, just some good prune sort of fruits. Great balance between acid and tannins, softer than before, no oak or minty character left, and a great acid driven finish like a good Sangiovese. Still at 15 alcohol it was a bit of a BIG wine. Strange life in bottles after Coravin ... some die, some get better
8/15/22, 8:15 AM - maybe on a closing window... same here to was consistently Wonderfull but last one ... neHHH
12/13/21, 8:20 AM - thanks mate... :)
7/2/22, 7:03 AM - I checked al the Intels yo did, amazing work btw... I wish I d be that accurate and focused... :) Still I find it great that the Spector uses a balanced scale to give its 100'ds as the Badia shows 21... thanks to a great price level !!! TBH I tasted two better wines from the same area on the 2019 Vintage ... I was quite shocked, but as you understood I m a bit messy and lazy ... I lost my book/note pad with all my notes from Wine Paris, and from Montpellier Millésime bio :(((
7/1/22, 6:08 AM - right , juts out of the estate and it is indeed a Syrah oriented wine, with some hints of Grenache regarding the vintages :)
6/23/22, 10:02 PM - it was indeed not Mencia red wine... but might have been confusing the amount of wines and list of Raul Perez in CT when I entered it. thanks for checking and commenting
6/22/22, 11:19 PM - Hi Dukes de la belle province, well if drinking now, Vialliere might be easier than the Landonne, but it showed great expression of fruit and style of Rostaing's wines. As being very familiar with the estate for a long time I d say it is a great in between Landonne end Blonde. Still I believe between days wines taste much different. It does not help much I believe, this being said, It needs a lot of aeration, does not hesitate to give it a long day of opening, when we go there, it is never from the day opened that we taste the wines and René used to keep them a couple of days opened... thanks for asking
6/22/22, 11:24 PM - Hi, interesting comparisons, I will try the CK Syrah, but I taste so many OZ shiraz nowadays, that I doubt they d stick to the French northern Rhône style... the one and only that was close enough would be Warner or Estate from Giaconda ... now Barossa's look sooooo jammy and cooked fruit oriented , even the den valley most famous ones... which we had lately :)
5/12/22, 6:47 AM - I would not say it is better than French as they are so opposite in style and taste... complementary. Of course if looking for opulent fruit flavors and almost sweet wine those Barossa s are on top level. For more fresh and bacon, spice character the French s are way better IMHO... :)
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
