From 375. In the glass, dark yellow with almost an orange tint. Nose of honey and apricots and what seemed like a whiff of marshmallow. Reminded me of sauternes but without any botrytis spice. The mouthfeel was unctuous, silky, rich and coating and the aromas from the nose followed to the palate. Long, lingering finish. Just delicious and improved as it warmed.

6/1/23, 5:42 PM - Hey Putnam - That is exactly where I got that bottle and I believe you were the person who recommended it to me. We enjoyed this when my son graduated high school a couple years back.

Are you still in the Detroit area? I hope you're doing well.

My one and only bottle of this which I have held to celebrate our son's HS graduation last year. Paired wonderfully with grilled ribeyes and vegetables. Last glass was even better on day 2.

I think HENDMO's 10/2021 note summed it up very nicely. Though I would add I decanted for 2 hours prior to serving.

"Deep concentrated ruby colour, which is Rich nose of cassis, slightly roasted plums, licorice, a hint of graphite and vanilla. Palate is well balanced with rich dark fruits, a deep seam of graphite and some gentle spices. Finish is subtle at first, but builds nicely into a lovely, classy, and mineral infused finish, framed by slightly dusty but well integrated tannins."

Inky purple in the glass. Nose of sweet tobacco, red/black fruits, spice and a hint of mint. Balanced on the palate with the fruit and spice notes dominating. Medium length finish and paired well with roast chicken.

5/11/21, 7:27 PM - I found the fruit to be forward and tannins not really noticeable. The wine did not feel tight or drying at all. Quite relaxed actually. For my personal taste which tends towards preferring younger wines I wouldn't predict much improvement but if you're more into secondary and tertiary flavors maybe this has some room to grow. Cheers! - Sam

Nice wine at a great price point. Recollections are a little fuzzy, but dark fruits, vanilla, toasty oak and spice.
  • slulkin commented:

4/18/21, 5:33 AM - Yeah, I'd drink it now - I don't think this was meant as a long term ager. It's a crowd pleaser but it's a mass produced wine that you seem to always be able to find at Costco.

Picked up on a whim based on shelf talker. Dark purple in the glass. Espresso, dried herbs, licorice and dark red fruited nose. Palate followed the nose nicely. Rich mouth feel with grippy tannins on the finish. For $14, definitely worth the price of admission.

3/27/21, 11:47 AM - Pretty accurate - especially given that Madeline Triffon (master sommelier) that oversees Plum's wine department wrote it.

  • slulkin commented:

3/28/21, 8:49 AM - When Plum was doing in person wine tastings I met her a few times. She's an incredibly nice person and always willing to answer questions about the wines being served. I can't say I recall seeing her in the store at other times, but she probably is and I just haven't been there when she is. I also imagine she probably goes in-between their multiple locations.

Hooray for Rose! Had been excitedly awaiting our delivery this year and the first bottle did not disappoint. Only got one glass but noticed a stone fruit (peach, apricot) and mineral nose. Very light on the palate yet pleasing. Looking forward to the remaining bottles and some warmer weather.
  • slulkin commented:

3/23/21, 6:20 AM - Yes, definitely consistent year after year. Though this year they changed the wine from 100% touriga nacional to a blend (still majority tn). I think that was due to fire damage.

This is the one annual purchase that I open the day of delivery as this is my "go to" rose for the summer and I what to see what to expect. It's a lovely fun wine right now and after a month or so of rest, it will subtly bloom and become a bit more structured. This year it is not 100 percent TN, but that's fine. Quite quaffable at 11 percent alcohol. It passes this early test, but not rated. More formal notes around Easter. Enjoy.

Going to try a few of these with different aerations to find it's ideal. Tonight four of us social distance drank it on pnp over about 45 minutes. Not a fragile wine. Stayed tight. Plenty of substance in color, bouquet, and palate. Tart, angular cherry with sweet mushroom and mineral. An extraordinary wine at 50 years old but would certainly give more pleasure with aeration. Will try again with a few hours aeration on 6/14/20.

Almost opaque purple in the glass. Dark fruits, pepper, herbs and hints of licorice (black and red) on the nose. Palate is quite full with fruit and spice. Tasty spicy finish. Much better on day 2.

Not rating this due to having no real experience with CdP. Seemed like a well made wine and at $40 in the last call aisle, worth picking up another one or two.

Corked. Disappointing to wait 18 years to drink something and have it be flawed.

Once I got past almost cutting my finger off with the silly fake wax, I really enjoyed this wine. I like the distinctive bright fruit, and hints of mineral flavors. Light and refreshing. Strong QPR.
  • slulkin commented:

3/4/19, 6:24 AM - Hey there vinoviking. I've done the same thing with the wax cap, until someone pointed out to me that I could just use my corkscrew like a normal bottle. I was surprised, but it does actually work. Cheers.

Unofficial end of summer and our last bottle of rose. Nose of melon, peaches and a hint of mint. Only got a small pour and I think this bottle disappeared the fastest of any that night.

Already looking forward to next years' release.

    9/9/18, 8:03 AM - Hi arthrovine,
Thanks for the comment, and pairing suggestions. I would agree, rose is a great anytime any dish wine. Cure for the wintertime blues is a new concept that I'll have to try out this coming winter. It's just hard to get excited about a chilled wine when it's 0 degrees out and feels like midnight at 6pm.

my lucky night - casual dinner at a friend's house when he comes back with this.

No decant, but poured through a Vinturi. Earthy nose with a touch of mint, dark berries and sweet oak. On the palate red fruits and dark berries with a hint of chocolate. Tannin seemed largely resolved in the seamless and lingering finish. A real treat.
  • slulkin commented:

8/28/18, 7:11 PM - Hi ESCO, I don't have a lot of tasting experience with bordeaux, but for my palate this was in a lovely spot and if I had a bottle I wouldn't hesitate to drink it. That being said, if you like your wines with more bottle age and tertiary flavors, I'd probably wait a few more years and see what happens.

    Cheers!

my lucky night - casual dinner at a friend's house when he pulled this out of nowhere.

Dull ruby core to a reddish brown miniscus. Nose of tart cherry, leather, and some floral hints. Tannin seems resolved and seems to show more tertiary flavors.

Definitely at the edge of enjoyment for my palate.
  • slulkin commented:

8/27/18, 12:17 PM - For me, it just smelled and tasted old. Too much of the leather/varnish notes and the fruit seemed to be barely there and what was there just seemed to me, to be old and not that enjoyable for me.

I can't decide if I haven't figured out how to enjoy older wines, or if I just really prefer younger to middle aged wines where the fruit is a bit more vibrant.

Much different from bottle 3 months ago and maybe in a better place. Nose had a surprising and somewhat prominent vanilla note, espresso and mocha and dark fruits. Palate follows the nose nicely with the fruit and vanilla notes really shining through on a balanced medium plus finish.

Tannins in this bottle were not nearly as evident as previous bottle but still no rush to drink these.
  • slulkin commented:

7/7/18, 2:17 PM - Actually drank right away, but did pour it through a vinturi. I got three small glasses from the bottle over about 90 minutes and each seemed a bit better than the last.

Opaque purple in the glass. Nose jumps out of the glass with red fruits, vanilla, spice and aussie red licorice. Silky smooth on the palate with the red fruit and vanilla featuring prominently. You'd never know from tasting it that it's 15.9% abv, but you certainly do feel it. A bit fatiguing after two glasses. Well made, sexy, and highly enjoyable, though I think this would show better with food (at least for me).
  • slulkin commented:

10/14/17, 3:57 PM - Thanks. Yes, from Plum. I had seen it on last bottle for $45 and passed, but when I saw it at Plum for $35 couldn't resist trying it.

The color is slowly starting to deepen. If you love the smell of apricots and pineapple drenched in honey, you came to the right place. The wine is sweet, fresh, lively and long, leaving with you the sensation of pineapple squeezed over rocks with honey coated, apricots tossed in for good measure.

7/12/17, 5:15 AM - Just curious if this was from 750 or 375 and if from 750 what if any differences would you expect from 375?

    Thanks!

8/17/16, 9:01 AM - Hi franklin 10, thanks for the comment. I didn't include my notes on this one since I drank the bottle with rollerball and I just figured his comments echoed mine, and I like his writing style (more expressive) than my own.

I'll try to do better on the next ones.
