4/20/24, 3:49 PM - Totally agree, they are not comparable for me as well, but the price also supports it. This is now the price of an avg village CM
4/16/24, 12:45 PM - Use the LR app, scan the bar code and you will know all details about your bottle
3/4/24, 1:14 AM - Not a lot, like 30 minutes in decanter. Provenance was perfect I assume, as this was bought in bond by a merchant so has been stored in professional cellar since release
2/10/24, 3:03 PM - Thank you!
12/8/23, 9:53 AM - a few years, but in the cellar and closed! don't touch till 2027 at least in my view
12/4/23, 11:56 AM - Hey there again, yes I had the unfortunate buy on both the 1996 PM and this one - both are not good anymore. And I like aged chardonnays, but both for different reasons are not worth it in my view
12/2/23, 9:02 AM - Over last few months, I have read on CT - and experienced myself - multiple comments on lack of energy for the 2017 white burgundy. Is this a vintage issue?
12/2/23, 11:34 AM - I did the same, but still haven't moved to 1er crus drinking. I mainly noted some lack of energy this last 6 months for 2017 on the village level wines, which surprised me a bit given how good they have been drinking in the last years...maybe a phase! hope this wont affect early drop in energy on the 1er crus as well...
11/26/23, 7:45 AM - That's right, £50 for the bottle but the wine is meh not good anymore
11/2/23, 12:59 PM - No wine is underpriced nowadays unfort :(
9/9/23, 3:10 AM - I was reading comments about the decision to make this n1 of the year. They give this 94 points, but it's the QPR point they stress to say this is their n1 wine
7/6/23, 2:54 PM - Luis Gutiérrez from WA covers the region and it's like Suckling, so deduct 4-5 points from his ratings as they are always too high for reality
2/12/23, 3:37 AM - Thanks for note! Do you know the difference between this bottling Grand Cru and the one named Tradition?
12/4/22, 3:00 PM - Sounds like a great test. I haven't opened yet 2012 bordeaux but I have read many positive notes on say Pontet Canet or Rauzan Segla to say a couple and their price is lower than this Don Melchor 2012...
11/27/22, 9:39 AM - Disgorgement date on front label above the "750ml" - need the bottle to see this - like a stamp with no ink. In a bottle I had not long ago disgorged 2018 I had that info on the back label, but this may be just more recent bottles
11/29/22, 12:07 PM - I'd go the European order, so month then year, though that sounds about right based on your comment re history of bottle. Glad it helped, I found a Vinous review for a bottle disg Nov 2011, says based on 2009 with reserves from 2008 and 2007. So assume your bottle may be similar
10/16/22, 3:02 AM - Thanks for note, can you help explain the link to the 03 Sassicaia at the end of the note?
10/16/22, 6:52 AM - Agreed! v funny
6/26/22, 3:22 PM - It's Lafite family, not Lafitte to be precise
6/24/22, 4:00 AM - I feel for you guys in the US, when I see crazy prices you pay for French / European wines. This I paid £45 and agree $115 is just non-sense never buy again it will never be worth it
6/24/22, 11:59 AM - Agree on drinking window, this 2017 should not be touched till 2024. I have had this of 2013 and for £40ish I agree it's a buy, but for $115 no way, just look at other 1er crus of less famous producers who know what they are doing and you will be happier. The ageing of the various cru levels makes sense, decent village should drink from yr7 to yr12, 1er yr8/9 to yr20, GC from 12yr plus
6/10/22, 11:07 AM - As an experienced drinker, if this style is not for you, what is the champagne you like and which one you suggest trying? Thanks
6/11/22, 10:25 AM - Ok, I make it more precise then. In the affordable space. David, I did read the notes, narrowed to champagne and ordered by score, but rarity and price of wines reviewed make them impossible to find or to buy today unless you are billionaire. Hence my direct question for some insights
6/11/22, 11:26 AM - Thanks David! Luckily I bought the first you say in the last few years, will look for the other 3 growers now as I haven't heard of them yet, so keen to try! Thanks!
6/12/22, 2:54 AM - Thank you, I have some Orizeaux of Chartogne-Taillet, and it is priced very decently for now. And thus will look to try other wines from this house. I would love to try Salon but out of my budget for now...
3/26/22, 12:27 PM - For who wants to know how to read the label, the first two digits (after L) of the labelling code on the neck of Special Cuvée are the year and the next three digits are the number of the day of that year, so L1405002 means the 50th day of 2014. The letter on the cork is the month of disgorgement and the number is the year, so 4A is January 2014 (or 2004 if very old). If not aware, hope this helps!
3/27/22, 2:44 AM - Maybe one day they will do! I share the hope
2/6/22, 4:09 AM - Suckling would give 95 even to Tavernello or San Crispino. He just loves too much drinking any wine, I am not even sure he favors certain wines vs others for economic returns. Just don’t pay for his scores or reviews and move to others still a bit more professional
1/30/22, 2:43 AM - My experience with a case of MdT 2000 has been in line with what you write. Initially somehow disappointing, when I had last few bottles at age 18/20 the wine was just singing. Seems like early on this is disjointed and at some age it just comes together and become a really nice Margaux with great QPR
1/29/22, 3:21 PM - It's how the wine is made...
8/27/21, 7:52 AM - Check this spelling on CT: Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon
7/25/21, 2:06 AM - The review appears to be for Clavoillons, but the CT bottle selected is the Folatieres
5/29/21, 2:10 AM - Cork broken for a 2008 PC? 100% poor storage, you should be fully refunded
4/30/21, 12:40 PM - Is this really this bad to get a 73?
3/26/21, 6:51 AM - Or a very good Picolit!
3/20/21, 3:48 PM - I feel for you guys in the US, here I paid this only 27£!
2/7/21, 2:30 AM - Fully agree, take 5/6 points out of JS score always
1/30/21, 6:58 AM - Pauillac
1/3/21, 6:28 AM - Come non concordare!
12/22/20, 7:59 AM - How strongly would you recommend a buy of this at bottle price of 99 GBP in bond? Professionally stored, thank you
11/30/20, 7:15 AM - Don't think this comment is for the correct wine, sure this is for the Dom 2008?
11/30/20, 9:33 AM - Just noting Dom 2008 is 50:50 Chard and PN as per winemaker, no Meunier. I also read 2 comments on Dom 2008 released from you today and not matching
11/14/20, 3:38 AM - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monopol-6285556C-Ah-So-Double-Bladed-Corkscrew/dp/B0002WZR4K/ref=asc_df_B0002WZR4K/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=232028567160&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16311981741913991097&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006836&hvtargid=pla-307619382875&psc=1&th=1&psc=1Tried this corkscrew?
11/8/20, 4:07 AM - Thank you, your take on the drinking window?
10/12/20, 3:13 AM - Email their cust service and ask for a refund - I did it and they credited same day
6/8/20, 9:16 AM - I guess the 100 points rating were given by mistake?
6/8/20, 9:24 AM - You know you can also not rate the wines? They appear as NR. Just leave the rating blank. Hope it helps, otherwise by giving 100 points you actually rate the wines you taste
5/24/20, 3:49 AM - Have you ever thought to align your rating scale (mainly 80-95) to the one of this website/network (mainly 85-100) for easiness of comparison? It's not being smart, just taking stock of where you are
5/24/20, 4:53 AM - Factually taking the points scale you use, what you write as your intention to do is not what you then do. If the population of this network assign 85-100 they use all this scale, while your greatest wines (which are some of the greatest of all times) achieve max 95, never more, as your scale is 80-95. When I read your review it makes perfect sense, but the rating is not aligned to the network and I know the comparison is just by simply adding 5 points to your score. I am not saying your philosophy is wrong, actually I think it is sensible, I am just saying something like: if you drive in Formula 1 then you drive an F1 car, not a motorbike. It is alignment to context of where you operate. Your scale is on avg as large as the one used in this network, just 5 points lower
5/25/20, 3:02 AM - Agree as said the review is great, the score however is out of context and quite confusing vs CT network band. It is not helpful to use 80-95 instead of 85-100 on avg as all other 500k plus users do. The scale would make sense if the max rating would not be 95 but 100 for the very best wines tasted but that is not the case so it is just applied confusingly. Nothing personal, I just want to make a point to help others, it is not the first comment on the rating scale
10/7/19, 11:23 AM - The wine was well developed compared to 2002 or 2004 I also had. I think it depends a lot on cellar quality and where the bottle has been aged / what conditions. If great conditions, this can last 2-3 years, otherwise I would open and drink it!
8/26/19, 3:07 AM - Why only 71? What was so bad? Comment doesn't help other readers..
