Decanted. This has gotten better since my last bottle a year ago. Upon opening, it was intense kirsch with a alcoholic bite. After an hour the bite faded leaving an intense wine with no negatives. Kirsch, mushrooms, herbs. Silky smooth, full bodied, looong finish. As near perfect a CdP as you’ll ever taste. Just amazing.

We loaded up on the wine upon release based on the reviews and have stored it in the cellar. This is the 3rd bottle and the first in a number of years. Immediately the nose was like smelling the vineyard after a rain. Secondary flavors now dominate with an acidic backbone that receded over the first hour. It ended as a smooth beast of a wine. Full bodied, perfectly balanced, good finish. This was amazing and should continue to evolve and will drink for decades.

CdP dinner. 9 people, 6 CdPs. 2000 and 2006 Beaucastel, 1998 and 2006 Vieux Telegraphe, 2001 Janasse Vielles Vignes and 2007 Xavier Anonyme. All Opened and than sat for at least 30 minutes before pouring. All tasted blind.

Everyone liked this, but I think its it bit overrated by WA (96 points).

10/5/15, 11:01 AM - Not surprised that a 2007 CdP did poorly after 30 minutes air in the bottle. Everything written about this vintage says its a late developer. It would show much better in 5 more years.

Opened a new case and tried my first bottle. Alas, bottle had a slightly sour, acidic taste upon opening which blew off over time. Even with the issue, it still was a drinkable table wine but not what it should be. Hopefully this was just the one bottle's issue.

9/1/15, 6:51 AM - I have found that this is a consistent issue with my bottles of the 2008 Colson Canyon. Very disappointing.

Mourvedre (TTTG blind tasting): Medium-dark ruby, very viscuous (it doesn’t have “legs,” it just paints the inside of the glass). On open, somewhat silky mouthfeel; mouth-coating, with obvious alcohol. Some minerality but mostly hot, ripe, alcohol-infused fruit. Even with 12 hours of air, it just seemed hot and disjointed.

After two days of air, this settled down ever so slightly, but was still primarily very extracted (raisiny) fruit, huge tannin, and a liquor-like finish. No obvious flaws (except serious stylistic biases), but much better wines in the style exist.

2007 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée Red Rhone Blend
Good, and relatively restrained for a 2007, a vintage I get little pleasure from.

2/5/14, 5:38 AM - We traveled to CdP last summer and went to a number of the winerys in the region. All of them said that their 2007's were massive and would not be ready for a long time. I suggest waiting on any of the major 2007's for 3-4 more years before drinking. I'm currently expecting to begin drinking around 2020 which is hard because we stocked up!

Opened 3 hours prior to drinking. Currant, roasted herbs, au jus. Medium body, good finish, tannins were present but not over powering. This seems to be coming out of a bad phase but hasn't reached the heights of a few years ago. Hopefully it will continue to improve as we have most of the case left and I was looking forward to it become a great wine.

A well-made and crowd-pleasing wine. Full bodied dark and blue fruits. Also some oak and a bit of heat.

I only waited 3 months. Regret it. Decanted for 4 hours and it's just soooo tight. I really have to give it at least another year before I crack open another one, 2+ years would be even better. Don't open it!!!

6/15/10, 5:55 AM - I totally agree with waiting. Obviously tastes vary but I was surprised at the bottle I had last month after the glowing notes that were posted by some. Just not ready.
