Russk. Andrea served to Wines By this producer the gruner veltliner and the Roter Veltliner. I enjoyed both and both were from Garagiste. My favorite was the Roter, more structure and cut. Get some from Garagiste.

Russk. This was my favorite Xinomarvo from the Westside whiners nebbiolo tasting. Very well behaved. On day 3, femine, with a nice citrusly cut to it. Medium bodied. Just bought 3 more.
  • RussK commented:

2/16/20, 4:20 AM - We (about 15 of ud) did taste it blind in a line up of Nebbiolos and lookalikes. Most thought it was a Nebbiolo. Distinguishing features might be lighter alcohol, a touch of bitterness in the finish.

Dark ruby with an inch pour, but not opaque. Smells smooth and moderately tasty. Hints of pomegranate and leather. Overall, enjoyable but not rich.

I see you are from Portugal. My wine friends and I are just discovering the Baga grape, the Barreira region and Luis Pato. Great stuff. If we like that what else might you recommend to us.

... Tasted blind and guessed that it was Baga from Bairrada. Medium to full-bodied. No Jam. Firm structure. Some nice rusticity. A touch of Brett. One of the better Baga, not from Pato."

I will search through your other notes. Thanks.

A big surprise at this price point. Needs 20-30 min of air to start shining. Great nose. Full bodied with earthy notes along with dark berries. 20 sec finish. This is a steal...blind, I would guess it was double the price. I will buy more.
  • RussK commented:

6/18/16, 10:47 AM - Hi Decanthor. We really do and still have a similar pallet. I had this at the TW tasting table last weekend and thought the same thing. How have you been?

  • RussK commented:

5/21/16, 6:55 AM - Hi James. I have only had 3 vintages of this wine: 2004, 2005, and 2009. My impression is that it will always have a pleasant austerity, that I respect and appreciate. I think that is the house style and that these wines will age well. If i had enough of it, i would drink some now, with a 2hr decant and save some for years to come. If i had to guess on a drinking window: 2015 to 2029. Enjoy.

  • RussK commented:

5/21/16, 6:57 AM - Btw, i don't know how long it was decanted. I tasted it at a Parker wine event.

This wine is Italy's answer to the Marquis-Phillips Shiraz 9 and Michael & David's $50 line of Zinfandels named after the 7 Deadly Sins. Midnight black in color, big and dense, heavy in the mouth, low acidity, flabby soft texture, an invasive and disjointed streak of sugar sweetness, unintegrated tannin with a seed bitterness, and huge fruit dominated by prune, raisin, and dates, interlaced with milk chocolate, marshmallow, and vanilla. The key to making such wines is to let the grapes hang on the vine for weeks after they get ripe, extract everything possible out of those late harvested grapes, and age the wine in small barrels of toasted new oak.

4/18/16, 6:49 AM - Thx. KG. You helped me dodge the bullet on this one. RK

Russk. I brought to Leftovers at Pablo's. 2hr+ decant. The beautiful nose gives it away. Yes, oaky and full of dill. But in a good way. Nice acidity. No rough edges. So supple. Wish I had more. Tied for WOTN with the 2004 Valpane Valpane. Best wine with the cedar smoked salmon.
  • RussK commented:

2/2/15, 6:20 PM - Rioja is often my go-to red when I want red with fish. That was true here especially with the smokey woody notes coming from the cedar. That said, fine mature rioja pairs with so many dishes. "it's genius" . If pairing with steak, I would lean towards fillet, as you might with very mature Bx or Burgundy.

'0 frigin 4 Bordeaux strikes again!!!! The Englishman's vintage, because the wines r so classic ...right?...fooey...this is everymans vintage! These wines are so delicious and for the price, this is the vintage to buy in the 2000's. The La Clare is the cousin to Rollan de by and there r some similarities btwn the two. This wine is what I look for in Bordeaux...so anti-cali...so classic...so tasty. The Clare puts on an absolute clinic...with earth, sweet truffle, leather, hints of funk, the red fruits pay more of a cameo role which is just fine with me...if I wanted fruit I'd meet u in napa. The succulent smooth finish on this continued to linger throughout the evening, tempting me for another pour. $29 brilliant.
