Nice Champagne, but I think I'd rather drink Drappier for £15 less and put the money towards more serious stuff.

Was pleasantly surprised to see this in Majestic Wine. I really enjoyed this when I first tried it at the house in 2015. It stood out from the rest of the portfolio but that's hardly a surprise given that most of their cuvees lean towards Pinot Noir.

This could have done with a bit more depth and complexity but what was there on the palate was very nice. Lovely lemon notes and while the nose had a classic Bdb minerality, the palate had a silkiness that put this in the 'easy-drinking' category.

Oxidative PN-dominated style. Not really for me. I wanted to like this but I think I prefer a bit more fruit. M+S should be commended for stocking this as it has character.

Good but not as good as the 2015. Has the classic satsuma-finish that I expect from Ataraxia.

I drank this a few weeks ago and didn't make any notes. I should say that I enjoyed this as a 'non-serious' Bordeaux. Should hold for a few years but this sin't for the long-haul.

A decent Champagne but like a lot of Lanson cuvees, very tight at this early stage.

On night one this was pretty closed and uncommunicative. Night 2 was much better with the classic Bollinger notes of nuts and dried red fruits.

I'll be drinking through my remaining bottles without a great deal of restraint.

Much better than my bottles from Fine and Rare. (I picked up a couple from the whisky exchange.)

This is drinking very nicely now but if the 2000 vintage is anything to go by, this could still improve.

Perfectly acceptable. About the same price as Blossom Hill but leagues ahead in terms of quality.

Very nice contrast between delicate fruit on the palate and a really nice toastines son the nose and the finish.

No notes at the time. I was very happy with this. I doubt that this will improve (depending on how you like your wines) but it should hold for a few more years yet.

Perfectly acceptable. I wasn't paying a great deal of attention but this is comparable in quality to rose Champagnes of similar price.

I should add that I have rarely, if ever, preferred NV rose Champagnes or English Sparkling Wines to their white counterparts.

Given the poor performance of the 2005 I had a few days ago, I was worried that this would disappoint. As it happened this restored my faith in the house.

A: Gold. Good mousse.
N: Dried fruits, spice (something Xmassy about the palate).
P: See above + a lovely Charles Heidsieck toastiness.

I can see why people are paying £130+ for the reissue of this vintage.

This is the third bottle of this that I've had and the second from this particular six-pack. While I enjoyed the bottle I got from Laithwaites, the bottles from this batch have been thin and disappointing. It may be that the wine is going down-hill, but I suspect that I have a dodgy batch.

It will be interesting to see if the pair of magnums that I have show any differently.

This has really moved over the last 18 months. The fruit's still there but in a more developed form. I think this will hold for a while but I can't see any upward potential.

This is an excellent example of a new-world chardonnay that exhibits all the new-world fruit flavours while still retaining extra acidity. Particularly noticeable is the satsuma-like pithiness of the finish. This will only get better.

No notes at the time, but I think that this is going to be my wine of the year.

On the nose this still had the signature white chocolate/praline flavours of its white sister. The palate had red fruits with a slightly burnt caramel note that evidenced the age of the wine while almost giving the impression of the wine having been corked.

I hate to think of how much of this will be drunk with puddings when it matches much better with lamb.

I'm not experienced with dessert wine but this was excellent. Dried fruits and apricots etc. There was also a nice toastiness on the palate that surprisingly made the wine compatible with a cigar.

Good but in the shadow of the Bollinger Grande Annee Rose 2004 that preceeded it.

This was very heavy on the oak and won't be for everyone but to be fair, it doesn't pretend to be anything other than an oak-bomb. Pretty good if you like more wood than fruit.

I was out of booze and skint. Popped into my local off-licence and bought this. I was slightly concerned that my tastes had outstripped the quality that I would be able to find at this price point. No notes at the time but this held up well and was a nice nostalgic experience for me given that I used to drink a lot of this stuff.

I had this after a disappointing boittle of the whit NV at La Trompette. This was miles better. Very toasty and a very good match for the food. 2008 base. I think this was disgorged in 2015 but I can't be sure from memory.

Fine but only 3 years on the lees. Hopefully, future releases will return to form. This did not have anything like the depth I've come to expect from this house.

Fantastic. 2008 base. disgorged 2014.

Drunk over three nights. Lovely toast and under-done pastry on the nose with white fruits (Apple turnover.) Fruit was fading on night three, but that's acceptable in a NV Champagne that has reserve wine streaching back into the last century.

It's worrying to note that bottles I've seen in shops recently only show three years of lees-ageing on the back label. I'm hoping that their newish Chef de Cave isn't going to trash the place.

From my other batch.

Seemed a bit leaner, but this was still beautifully delineated on the nose with a nice smokiness that almost reminds me of Dom Perignon. Those who say that this wine is going into hibernation might be correct, however, and I'll hang on to the rest of mine for quite a while.

I picked this up at M+S for just £27 and was afraid that it would be over the hill. Actually pretty good and in a very good spot right now. Honeyed (with, it must be said, a slight sherried note creeping in) and toasty. No notes ta the time but a great one to drink now.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: Peaches and honey with a bit of marmalade. Great with the cheese and I preferred this to the Kiwi late-harvest sauvignon blanc that preceded it.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: No notes at the time. This had a bit of citrus and a kind of raciness to hint and the wines that we would normally associate with sauvignon blanc. Great with the selection of cheeses available.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: Served in Lehmann glasses this was a clear step up from the Taittinger.

The yeastiness of the nose jumped out of the glass. The usual red apple flavours were present on the palate with enough acidity and 'dryness' to prevent things from becoming cloying.

It seems a little churlish to add that the bottle that I cellared for five years that I had a while back was in a different league.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: This was fine but I don't think that Hatch Mansfield have any right to be upset when this gets discounted down to £25. The Bollinger was a clear improvement.

Not as good as the aged bottle I had some time ago.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: Election night 2019.

This was the Champagne we turned to after dinner and with the leftover Taittinger and Bolly floating around, I thought that our slightly inebriated state would prevent this from suffering by comparison. In the end, I needn't have worried about that as this bottle held up very well in the face of the competition.

The nose had the usual Piper-Heidsieck sulphur and a faint whiff of potting-soil (probably the Pinot Meunier). It's worth remembering that this wine is nearly a blanc de noirs, but unlike Bolly or Drappier, red apple flavours from the Pinot Noir do not seem to be in the driving seat. Instead, this is leaner with crisp pear and some grainy notes. It's a similar style to Moet but a much better deal IMHO.

A very good quaffing Champagne.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: The cabernet profile was clear with a lovely nose of tar and blackcurrant. The palate was well structured with good fruit and a tanic back-bone. Clearly new world but as with so many Chilean reds, the tanins prevented this from coming across as a fruit-bomb.

Election Night 2019 at Jordan's.: I preferred the Vina VIK wine served before this.

The nose had a bit of tobacco with bright blueberry-fruit flavours. The palate showed round fruit and decent length.

Jordan's bottle. Drunk with Neil and Jordan.

I really enjoyed this. Lovely toastiness and the nectarine/white peach flavours are holding up really well. A baby Dom and proof of how good the 2006s can be.

It might be that my tastes are changing but the alcohol just stuck out too much for me. In my experience that's not something that improves with age. Good stuff in the bottle, but it's out of balance.

I've always been a bit snooty about Feuillate but it seems that Like Moet, they manage to produce some good stuff that's head-and-shoulders above their NV offering. Very easy drinking, but worth laying down.

I had this on two recent occasions. Very oxidative. I remember Tom Stevenson complaining about this problem with Bollinger's wines back in 2013. (I had one or two complaints from customers at my Majestic branch at the same time.) Given the time-lag involved with the release of the NV in 2012/2013, it would make sense that this oxidation problem would rear its head in the 2007 vintage.

That aside, I did enjoy this bottle even though it tasted much older than it should. Not a great Grande Annee but one to drink while waiting for 02s and 08s to mature. I should also add that this looks at the moment to be the last 'affordable' Grande Annee; with the change in bottle-shape kicking in with the profound 2008, Bollinger have taken the opportunity to increase the price significantly (Charles Heidsieck have done exactly the same thing.)
