Pale garnet. Aromas of rose, violet, red cherry, red currant, raspberry, vanilla, tobacco, smoke, tar, black pepper. Medium intensity, fully developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body. Similar flavours as the aromas. Pronounced flavour intensity. Long finish. An outstanding wine which can be drunk now but has potential for further ageing.

Still drinking very well, still black fruit, nice acidity, integrated tannins, tertiary flavours, lovely! This has clearly benefitted from optimal storage.

Spain, San Román, Toro 2014, 14.5% alcohol https://www.bodegasanroman.com/en/

Appearance

Clear, deep intensity, garnet colour.

Nose

Clean nose, medium+ intensity, aromas chamomile, blossom, pollen; and red fruit (cherry, plum), also black fruit (cherry, plum); and cooked fruits (prune), dried herbs (lavender). Vanilla, cedar and chocolate, charred wood. Leather, earth, vegetal. Fully developed.

Palate

Dry, with medium acidity, soft medium (+) tannins, high alcohol and full bodied. Pronounced flavours of black berries, cherry, plum and developed fruit, prune and cooked cherry. Also pepper. Pronounced vanilla, cedar, wood impressions. Cloves, leather, tobacco, and earth-like tertiary aromas. Long finish.

Conclusions

A well balanced mature wine with clear oak sensations, with well identifiable characteristics, complexity and a long finish. Overall a very good wine, which is good for drinking now, but has potential for further ageing.

This is a very nice wine, not cheap but decent value for money. You must like oak effects, which are for my taste on the strong side, similar to many Rioja's. However in this wine the different flavours, tannins and high alcohol are really well integrated, so I make an exception concerning the oak, and would buy again.

Cedar and chocolate, charred wood. Tertiary sensations include leather, earth, vegetal. Fully developed.

Palate: Dry, with high acidity, soft medium tannins, high alcohol and full bodied. Intense medium+ flavours of lots of fruit, black berries, cherry notes, plum and developed fruit, prune and cooked cherry. Also some spiciness, pepper. Some cedar, wood impressions, cloves, leather, tobacco, and earth-like tertiary aromas. Long finish.

A well balanced mature wine which still has a lot of fruit sensations, with well identifiable characteristics, complexity and a long finish. Overall a very good wine, which is fully mature for drinking now, not for further ageing. Very enjoyable!

Appearance
Medium intensity, ruby colour.
Nose
Medium intensity, primary aromas of red fruit, plum and aromas of black fruit, blackberry, hint of spice, black pepper. Secondary aromas include a hint of smoke and wood, maybe also some tertiary “leaves” sensation.
Palate
Dry, with medium acidity, soft medium tannins, high alcohol and medium body, medium flavour intensity and similar flavour characteristics as on the nose with the black fruit becoming more prominent. Long finish.
Conclusions
A well balanced wine, with a good concentration and a pleasantly long finish. Perhaps a bit weak on complexity, but overall a very good wine, especially given it can be bought on offer for around £8 per bottle. I preferred the 2015 of the same wine where the aromas and flavours were a bit more pronounced, but the 2016 is still a tremendous wine.

Ruby red colour, slightly transparant. On the nose mainly red berries, delicate. On the palate again berries and a bit of spice, with medium acidity, light tannins, medium bodied. Medium to long finish. Well balanced wine which is very pleasant to drink. This cuvee is made of Zweigelt 55%, Blaufränkisch 25%, and Cabernet Sauvignon 20%.

Deep ruby colour. Light hint of red fruit on the nose. Dry, low to medium acidity on the palate; tannin and alcohol medium, medium body and short to medium finish. Easy drinking, uncomplicated red wine, should go well with various foods. OK for a £9 wine.

My first time tasting this wine, wow it is a bit of a revelation, and I really like it. It is sweet, but I have had sweeter wines, so maybe 6 or 7/9. The candied fruit experience dominates, on the nose and on the palate, especially orange. Very long finish. It is a wine like nothing i have ever tasted before, quite unique, and i expect a matter of taste for different people. I will definitely buy more of these.

This blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and merlot from 11 different vintages is a triumph, exactly how I like my wine, and such a good value for money. Notes of leather, tobacco, and cedar and black berries fruit. Drinking really well now, but with promise for further development over another 5-10 years.

This is not a sangiovese. It is a cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot blend. I have yet to taste the wine.
