I decanted this for 3 1/2 hours which was apparently too long. The first glass was the best and then it felt lighter and lighter from there. Definitely a quality wine but next time it will be a brief decant or a pop and pour.

The best Saxum I've had. Decanted 5 hours. First glass was distinctively syrah but as we continued through the bottle the grenache became more and more prominent and it tasted more like a CDP. Regardless, it was outstanding throughout.

I decanted this bottle for 3+ hours and it was fabulous. Mid palate absolutely bursting with flavor and a finish that was incredible.
I had this on release along side the Chante Le Merle. The La Folie was muted and the Chante Le Merle really was singing! Now the exact opposite is true. It sure is hard to figure out wine!!

This was my first bottle of Rioja ever so I wasn't sure what to expect. I loved it after a 30 minute decant and even bought 2 more cases.

Same experience as in January, 2020 note below. 6 hour decant. Incredible mid palate and mouthfeel.

Nice balance offsetting the 16.5% alcohol after a 4 hour decant

Bottle variation!! I had this recently and absolutely loved it (97 - review below) so I opened it for Father's Day. This bottle from the same lot was giving so little after a 2 1/2 hour decant. We slowly drank it over the entire evening and it didn't improve. The first bottle easily exceeded expectations for the price. The second bottle clearly didn't.

Definitely improved over time. Hold or decant for 2 hours +.

I'm normally not a big syrah fan but this was wonderful, especially the soft mouthfeel and powerful finish.

Decanted 2 1/2 hours. Absolutely loved this wine. It didn't have the normal Bordeaux profile of so many previous vintages that I have enjoyed. It had a very soft mouthfeel and an amazing finish. This was a much greater experience than I had anticipated.

Not much to add to recent notes below. I decanted it for 2 hours and drank over the next 2. I loved the soft mouth feel and great finish.
It's interesting to me that most "16 CDP's have tightened up but there are still a few that are drinking great right now.

My first glass of this wine was outstanding. As it received more and more air, each successive glass deteriorated. First glass 98.....last glass 90? Very unusual experience.

I have had many of the highly rated 16 CDPs and this was among the best. Surprisingly open for business after a 30 minute decant. I’m sure it will improve but anyone considering trying one now will be pleased.

See JVIZ review below. I agree with every comment. I decanted this bottle for 6 hours and it was fantastic.

Not much to add to other comments. I've had several of these through the years and this was the best.

Very tight day 1 despite 4 hour decant. Hold. Much better day 2. NR

After a 3 hour decant this was awesome. Very smooth mouthfeel and lengthy finish. It was right up there with the best of the '03's I've enjoyed and to my taste, better than the '07s.

Had this as a pop and pour 5/19 and it was outstanding (98)
Had another 9/19 and it began tightening up even after a lengthy decant (95)
This bottle on 10/19 was even more closed after a longer decant. (93)
Clearly a quality cdp however.

Filtered sediment and put back in bottle to drink immediately. It was definitely ready to go. Stylistically it’s very much like Pegau and very enjoyable.

We drank this along side the 2013 Realm Absurd. We rated the Absurd 98 even though it was much too young. Amazing wine with an incredible future. The Beckstoffer To-Kalon, on the other hand, was drinking beautifully as a pop and pour. We also rated it 98 and could not stop raving about how enjoyable it was. It may not improve in the future, but it doesn't need to!

Had this along side the '14 Realm Beckstoffer To-Kalon Cab. The Absurd was...well....absurd. A massive wine with great structure and rich flavor. We popped and poured and it definitely needed more time, whether additional aging or time in the decanter. Unfortunately, it was so good we didn't allow that to happen. I don't believe I've ever rated a wine 98 that was way too young until now. I can't imagine this years down the road.

Had this in May of 2017 and it was very tight on day 1 and much better on day 2. Tonight we decanted it one hour and the first glass revealed considerable heat. Thereafter, each glass was better and better. Our conclusion, this is a very nice wine that requires more time or a lengthy decant to optimize your experience. 93 points on the final glass.

Decanted for one hour. This wine is drinking great young and I can only imagine that will improve with time. It's going to be a challenge not to drink the remaining bottles. '16's have been great young in general....I hope they don't shut down any time soon.

PnP. Surprised how open for business it was. I’m surprised at the conservative ratings on this. An easy 94 for me.

A bit too harsh for me.
Definitely better on day 2 (maybe one point?) but not up to Carlisle standards in my opinion.

‘05 CdPs in general have been very slow coming around. I’d had 2 of this wine several years back which were very closed. This one was more open and very enjoyable. The first glass was good but had somewhat significant fine sediment. We filtered the successive glasses through a paper filter and noticed much improvement. I’ll hold my remaining bottles but there’s no reason not to enjoy one now if you’re so inclined.

90 minute decant. Very soft wine with great mouthfeel. I enjoyed it very much and presume it will continue to improve.
