I must disagree with these notes. To me its a very lithe but pure and very bright and lovely wine. The fruit is just starting to emerge from the structure and this wine will really sing starting in a year or 2 and have a great few years of drinking after that.

As zingy and amazing as the 2012 was. Much more lively and drier than the 13 and especially the 14. Not that those weren't good but this is in my book the way I love this wine.. so bursting with energy

New style.. more lithe and drier.. Still the same gout of Terroir.. Tangerine Strawberry etc.. but lighter in color and density. Great.

Beauty. Lithe, pure red fruit...just beginning to develop. 2011 coolness... I wish all vintages were like this in CA.

This is a really lovely wine I wish I had bought a case. Anyhow I have one more and will save another 5 years. Its good now.. very pure.. not the most complex, but the fruit is so lovely and food friendly. This is why you buy Burgundy.. It can suprise you .. as everybody knows..in either great or terrible ways.

Well I bought a case of this as a mystery wine I got a good deal, so its shooting craps, however I hope that this wine evolves in a good way because, it was not described at all the way it actually tastes. (((here is the description for the wine, which is why I bought it: "It is not an ooze-monster trying to obtain points - quite the opposite. It pushes to the head of the domestic Pinot Noir class because of its organic/hands-off principles and the origin of its fruit. In its attempt to showcase terroir and varietal symmetry over massive new oak and carnival extraction, it races past the field like Jeff Gordon. ")))) This is my note for this wine:It is NOT an ooze monster, however, Instead of understanding the 2011 vintage in Oregon, the winemakers here used some new oak, 30% according to the website, which in a riper year might have been fine, which totally overwhelems the fruit(maybe only for now). The Oak, along with pretty drastic over extraction shrouds in spoof what could have been a pure and gorgeous lighter style wine that fits the vintage. I really don't like the over extraction.. this is the problem to me they extracted stuff that in a lighter vintage should not be in the wine. Instead..they tried to make a prestige wine in a style that didn't match the vintage. Heavy handed winemaking here...I don't understand why American winemakers try to work AGAINST THE VINTAGE instead of with it...still trying to please WA, WS in this instance is my guess.I hope this smooths out. Maybe in 5 years the oak will integrate..if not a waste of great fruit.I am keeping this wine open and tasting over 5 days to see what happens.. Will report so far on day 2 stuck in same mode. TO BE FAIR, let me say my Girlfriend who likes oak and extraction more than I, liked this wine A LOT!!

In a great place right now.. but I think it will even get better in an couple of years. So full of flavor, but the tannin and minerality are adding such an amazing balance.. great.. With Thai Food

This is the same tasting note as a year ago.. the wine has gotten even more tied together.. The acidity is lowish here and now the apricot has come out.. I love their "serious" whites when they are 4-8 years old

This wine needs air and food, It is a wonderful lithe elegant Syrah. Its not packed with fruit, it is packed with intrigue, especially for the price.

This wine is SINGING right now and frankly Its amazing and fantastic for 15 bucks. As much as I like some of those liters of GV, this is a HUGE step up in structure and complexity. It will improve for another year too.. Screwcap is a huge plus for this wine. see previous note for flavors.

Too ripe and candied for my taste. Very cherry cough syrup. Not particularly complex. Also maybe waited a year or 2 too long. Still, a decent drink if you like this sort of thing.
Day 2 much more complex, but way more heat and even more like Robitussin. Dense chewy.
I do not like the spiky heat or the cherry cough syrup.
Girlfriend likes this kind of wine and liked it a lot.
therefore a decent rating, and I appreciate that for what it is, its good, I just don't like this style of wine.. for me 78 points.. as I could not drink a full glass.

Like a delicious Beaujolais in philosophy, but not in taste. The tannins are firm, so while I thought the fruitiness was good for this being served cool to cold, the tannings preclude this.. BTW this bottle the tannins have softened a lot since the first this summer so ..
Anyhow the fruit is delightful and forward but with backbone...see above.. great with lamb and mushrooms.

I love it, very open and fruity, not a "serious" Cru Beaujolais, just an open faced, sunny yet deeply fruited wine. The fruits are on the darker side, but the palate is fresh and open. Lowish acidity but juicy and balanced. I reallly like this one a lot.

Heavy, over ripe, over extracted, the alcohol is so in the forefront, at least not over oaky , but its sad, I can taste the wonderful purity of the fruit if they had not Parkerized this wine so much. Flat, no freshness, kind of like a dry Mouvedre port. Maybe it will be better with a day's worth of air. I was really looking forward to this, but too much of everything.

I agreee with everthign Salil said about this wine.
I love their wines, but this shows whey they try too hard to make a
"prestige" wine the winemaking took precedence over common sense.

This is the highest in acidity version of this wine I have had.. but it also has really fresh berries and a bit of grippy ripe grape tannin and wonderfully pure fruit. Now this is not a super complex wine, but its wonderful with food and my guees is that it will soften in a year to a year and a half. I am shocked that you can get this in DC for what is a song, even more affordable than the 12 due to the Dollar, and just try getting a red that tastes this real for the price from so many other places.

Beautiful, lithe, funky, very Cali fruit on entry, becomes euro on the finish, a great food wine, yet not too high in acid.

I thought I was opening the 2012, had been wanting to save this for a few more years, however I am still glad I opened it because It was wonderful. An olive like aroma and on the palate. Fresh dark cherry and firm but ripe tannin. No greenness at all and just pure alive wine, you can literally taste the aliveness.. hard to describe, you just can. I still wish I had waited 3 more years, really wanted to see what would happen. I will have to be more careful to save one of the 2012 versions to see. Another wonderful bottle of wine from this farm.
Paired with Pasta with meat sauce.. maybe not the perfect pairing but still a delight.

A bit hot and jammy.. but nice fruit.. the alcohol does spike a lot, especially on the nose. however I Am glad to be drinking it and its really not gonna improve. A lot of glycerine and raspberry on the palate. The nose does have some relly nice 5 spice on it and leather.. a bit of VA(suprise suprise)
but a good wine.. especially for my GF who loves ripeness. A bit too much alcohol after the nice Riesling I was just drinking.

Great. Super sleek and so pure and elegant. Crunchy fruit.. gonna buy some for the future.(day 1)

Day 2.. increasing complexity not super high in acidity like I guess some other vintages but bringing some more Austrian Riesling style than you might think. Pineapple, stone, a bitter almond finish.. more to come on day 3. Very long finish.. 45 seconds or more.

On day one this wine exhibited leather and a bit of cherry. I enjoyed it. By day 3 the wine was absolutly humming and It softened the wine integrated and took on an almost Pinot like character. This is a suprising wine and I would say to let it age 5 years. I plan on buying some and laying it down.

Its hard to believe they can get 17 buck (I saw it on sale at this price but know it can be gotten much cheaper) for this industrial swill. you can get this same wine for 4 bucks from Yellowtail or any other industrial swamp juice. It is sweet, confected, manufactured, with very little SB character. Basically its a product to conform to a formula of "wine" as opposed to actual wine.

actually found this to be the best bottling of this in years. True GV character and great minerality, if a tad simple, this is a big step up from most of those liter bottle GV's , of course its not at the next level. For 17 bucks a steal if you ask me.. a great food wine..lots of the pepper that people associate with GV and the usual spiciness.. good wine

This wine is way more pure and elegant that I was even expecting.. (the last time I tasted it was at the winery 6 years ago). gorgeous, fresh, elegant, cool on the palate and in a great place.. best in 3 years.. wish I had more... love it, If only more people chose to make RRV Pinot like this. so great with lamb stew. I love their wines. Jon Bonne can keep talking about the "New California", but Doug Nalle has been doing this for a long time.. along with a bunch of other folks.. great.. and I usually only drink their Zinfandel.

Bad Bottle. I bought on a deal when I worked at a wine website.. they must have gotten if from someone who cooked it.. was cooked for sure.. raisny, dull and forloron.. was good for a second then fell apart.. what a shame.. brought to a nice rest for NYE dinner. Oh well that's wine.
Luckily the restaurant had a great wine list.. we had Corniellison wines instead.

I love this wine.. already bricking a bit, but the flavor was amazing. Lithe but structured wine, with gorgeous fruit, and only 11.2% alcohol. My guess is this wine was not stored at 57 and is very low in Sulphur. So careful if you plan on having it around for a few years.

That being said.. This is a great NY wine and really is one among many that are showing just how pure and true reds from the Finger Lakes can be..

I don't know.. I love their reds so much.. but after the rielsings all these years and now this.I am not sure about their touch with white wine.. I just think this wine has a great mouthfeel, but is a bit hot,, and a bit flabby..

On day 2 the wine is much improved, and actually has some flavor. I am not sure what is going on here, but again, the fruit is too ripe or the wine tastes too hot, even thou the alcohol is not that high. Its a drinkable wine. I know some people who will love it..

Day 4 losing its flavor but still totally drinkable. anyhow
this is a decent wine but I like others better for the price..
