Another corked bottle. Too bad, as there was nice fruit under the TCA.

Corked. Too bad, as the wine underneath was alive and not premoxed.

A youthful bottle in great shape, likely due to it having a DIAM cork.

Corked. One taster mentioned roughly half of the 89 Beaucastel's he's experienced over the years have been TCA affected.

A lighter weight effort, which for me is preferable with CdP. Opened up real nicely on day 2, becoming more silky and savoury.

Ripe but balanced, with good acidity. Displaying some aged characteristics that makes me inclined to start drinking these now, rather than hold for much longer.

Ever so slightly corked, which wasn't apparent upon opening.

Dark cherries, plums, leather and eucalyptus. Earthy. Fully mature and likely several years passed peak, but an enjoyable example of classic Napa cabernet.

Golden coloured and a little cloudy. Only a small pop upon opening and the mousse was modest. Complex, smoky, yeasty, honeyed citrus nose. The palate had layers of brioche, lemon curd, smoky nuts and toffee. A riper profile with good acidity and a long finish. Fully mature.

Rich and oxidative, this had layers of complexity that kept unfolding with air. Creamy citrus, brioche, roasted nuts and porcini with a decent amount of underlying acidity.

Primary and reserved, this opened only slightly with several hours of air.

Deep golden coloured with faint mousse. Heavily oxidized and a little tired, this bottle showed 10 years older than one would expect from an '88.

More than a little advanced displaying burnt citrus, roasted nuts and caramel notes.

From a half bottle (purchased on release, perfect fill just below cork) and decanted for sediment, the nose was pure fireworks out of the gates and mostly tertiary, with black tea, cinnamon, eucalyptus, green and black peppercorns. On the palate it was long and silky with savoury red fruits, salty black olives and old leather. While sublime for the first hour, it began to fade with more time in the decanter.

Higher toned, red fruited and floral nose. An elegant Chave, this had finer tannins and less structure than the 00, 95 and 96 paired up against. Very balanced, silky and enjoyable, on the early side of maturity.

From magnum. Light golden. Still persistent mousse. Complex melange of honey, nuts, nougat, brioche, a little caramel. Mature flavours, but tons of energy. The flavours really fanned out over the course of several hours. Exceptional!

Purchased on release and stored in a cool cellar. The fill was very high, barely a few cm under the cork, giving promise this would be a good bottle. Wow, was it ever. The nose had the full complement of tertiary notes of exotic spices, red and dark berries, and leather. The palate was all silky smoothness with no hard edges and the wine held up over the course of several hours. This bottle was just singing.

The nose was very expressive and classic, with dark fruits, violets and roasted meat. Unfortunately though, the palate did not measure up and was thin, lacking in fruit and disjointed with prominent acidity. Perhaps an off bottle.

This was delicious but is still a baby. It exhibited lemon curd, saline, and a slight cheesy funkiness but overall was still quite reserved even though it was decanted for a few hours prior to serving. Very enjoyable to drink, but more bottle age would undoubtedly allow this to become more expressive.

After pulling the cork and pouring a glass, it's obvious the colour is a little darker than it should be. The nose started out ok however, with lemon curds and some flinty mineral and a little butterscotch. And then gradually it got worse, with more pronounced sweet and unpleasant aromas of oxidation.
