Continued development. Very nice floral aromas. Still very lush with sweet cherries and raspberries, hints of graphite beginning to emerge. Has softened since '18 with nice complex finish. Not a great Lafon at the moment, but thinking this may follow the path of the 1995 down the line. Will wait 3 years till next bottle.

Always love this lesser known Tavernelle producer. Dark purple that will benefit from additional ageing. I can see this going through 2030 easily. Dark cherries, plums, herbs, and blackcurrant. Smoky and rich raspberry nose. It maintains stark tanginess, but has enough deep fruit to offset. 8 years in this is as good as the 2004 vintage and might turn out even better. 92+

Nose took a long time to come around with dark cherries and licorice. Somewhat tough on palate, with plums, earth, and leather. A bit of heat as well. Might be in a dumb phase, not sure here. Not up to par with other '10 at this point.

Ruby red color with aromas of jubilee cherries, flowers, oak. More new world Cali than Oregon. Lots of sweet cherries and raspberries on palate with sharp acidity. Nice solid finish.

Great producer that never disappoints. Intense aromas of dark cherries, smoke, and incense. Very meaty and chewy, with rich plums, dark raspberry and spice. Full bodied red that needs time to develop. Robust finish that is quite long.

Nice fresh nose of wild red berries, herbs, spice. Reminds of an 05, but with better acidity. Cherries, mint, with a rich mineral flavor. However, tannins are very smooth. This is ready to drink now. Very juicy on very impressive finish.

375ml. Decadent nose of cherries, pencil lead, spice. Full bodied but with plenty of acidity for balance. Plums, oak, cocoa, dark raspberries on palate. A touch sweet, but very smooth tannins. Finish is very long. Could fit in right bank lineup very well.

Quite tight upon opening with muted nose of strawberries, orange peel, and bing cherries. Light and delicate, sweeter than prior vintages. Nice deep raspberries with plenty of acidity. Day two showed much improvement. Aromas really came around as with finish. Last pour was the best, give this a solid decant or wait.

Bright red. Great Pommard. Rich nose of jubilee cherries, plums, spice. Not as meaty or rustic as expected, very vibrant with nice sappy cherries, dark raspberries, and spice. Tannins have receded nicely and this is ready to drink now, though will age very well. Impressive silky finish that goes on. 93+

375ml. Outstanding nose of plums, dark cherries, earth. Full depth of flavor with a great mix of black and red fruits. Very smooth tannins, but well balanced with plenty of acidity. A forceful brunello that draws that fine line between depth of flavor and elegance. Hints of baking spice to go along with plentiful cherries. Make sure you give a good decant. The best '11 to date with a decade minimum to go. 93+

Much improved. Aromas of plums, tobacco, earth. A rounder rich palate with smooth tannins, dark raspberries, smoke, herbs. VCC normally takes 12 years plus and this is following tradition. Excellent finish. Not as good as '01, but close.

375ml. Nice Vosne with plenty of spice, minerals, smoked raspberries, and espresso on the nose. Very creamy and spicy, with darker notes of blackberries, jubilee cherries. Quite dense at the moment, but also balanced with stony elements on a solid finish. Drinking well now and obvious improvement will come with age. 91+

Great boutique Brunello with rich strawberries, rhubarb, and herbs on nose. A bit of richness and spice on palate, no doubt the year. But this San Polino also remains light on its feet with light cherries, citrus and thyme elements. Savory on the finish with tart red cherries. Very different in style from Conti, but never-less a solid Brunello to be drunk with food.

Strong nose of figs, dark cherries, and orange peel. Very savory brunello with darker red and black fruit, earth, leather. This will take considerable time and not sure it has enough fruit to merit a higher score. Far below the '04 at this point, which was lovely from the beginning.

An '86 that was actually open. Nose was sublime with violets, dark cherries, earth. After an hour, really broke through with sweet and smooth dark plums, olives, graphite. Very soft and velvet tannins, with a very long finish. No tartness that I have gotten from other wines in the vintage. The aromas of this wine really stood out here. In prime drinking window.

First '12 to open. Moderate red color with compelling floral nose with notes of leather, spice, bing cherries. Dark raspberries, earth, strawberry notes with nice acidity. Closed up after an hour after opening. Unlike the '11s, needs much more time. A slightly richer, albeit balanced, Altesino than in many past vintages. Score could easily go up. Drink 2020+

375ml. My first experience with this producer. The Fontalloro has a rich nose with dark cherries, oak, earth. Medium bodied with tart dark cherries, but has plenty of meat and hints of herbs. Very Chianti like on finish, exceptionally dry with medium length. A very unique mix. Quality wine from a aroma perspective, but not close to any brunellos and I have had much better Tuscan wines. Poor finish pushed down overall score.

Over lunch. Remarkably, opened up much more slowly than the '10 Canalicchio next to it. After an hour, notes of sour cherry, flowers, baking spices emerged on the nose. By end of lunch had turned superb, with plums, blackberries, leather on medium bodied palate. Much more mature than the '01 Fuligni at this point. At ideal drinking point for those that love older Brunello. Should drink well for another five years. It was a great contrast of two top producers and vintages.

Over lunch. Dark red color. Remarkable nose with dark cherries, balsamic, earth that just grew over time right after opening. Tons of rich fruit and I could have been fooled if told this was from Boudots. Very silky and penetrating with dark raspberries, spice, menthol. Contrasted with the excellent '01 Poggio Antico, it was the preferred wine. Still a bit tight, but very drinkable now. Excellent finish.

I don't drink many whites, but Joly is my go to if on any menu. Not as good as a Joly Coulee, but very solid. Green-yellow color with nice nose of peaches, honey, and orange peel. Bright palate, with brisk acidity and sweet apples & pears. Nice solid finish. Took home from restaurant and day 2 was even better.

375ml. This producer never disappoints. Much more open than any of the 2010s at this juncture. Superb nose of bing cherries, leather, orange zest, smoke, herbs. Given the hotter conditions of '11, this comes away as a very elegant brunello. On palate, juicy cranberries, black raspberries, baking spices. No hints of alcohol. Luckily no reserva was made this vintage and the regular bottling demonstrates great quality. Very drinkable now, but will certainly improve and add complexity. Delicious and fresh sangiovese wine. Outstanding finish as well. 94+
