Very good. Decanting is still a good idea. Sediment is present. Pleasant nose, mostly red and blue fruits along with some cocoa, and a palate that matches. Pairs best with chocolate. Pretty finish. Fun way to say goodbye to 2021.

Consistent with the last bottle. Nice pauillac foundation with gravel notes. 45 minute decant. Tastes very nice. Sediment is starting to become quite noticeable so pour carefully.

Upon opening, beautiful bouquet with notes of dark blue berries. Some subtle bramble and smokiness as well. Very little cork penetration, but a surprising amount of sediment. Best to pour into the decanter carefully. Decanting is still a must with this one. Decanted for one hour and it really started to open up and show some refinement. Continued to get better as the evening went on, so don't open if you are rushed. Paired very well with a prime steak and mushrooms.

I hate it when I have to give a low score, but for me this wine did not hold up to the glowing scores it has received. Ultra concentrated, heavy dark fruits dominate. There is no grace or elegance here. Imagine that you want a sip of water and the only way you can get it is from a fire hose. Yes it does the job, but you might not be happy with the results. I hope others have a better experience and I am an outlier.

Really delicious wine. Plenty of life and still benefiting from a decant before drinking. Felt very fresh for its age. Lovely aromas of red cherries, along with subtle earthiness and minerality. Nice medium bodied wine, and a finish that didn't disappoint. Quite enjoyable.

Previous comments about dark fruits and espresso are pretty accurate. Sitting in the zone for enjoyable drinking. A short decant will help the nose and flavor profile to open up. Benefits some from pairing with food.

This was a wine club bottle from years ago that was buried in the cellar. Pulled it out on a random weeknight to give it a go. It was probably meant to be consumed young. Not much fruit left here. More prunes, mushrooms, and damp trees. Should have tried it sooner.

Based on other recent reviews I decided to open one of these earlier than planned. Alas I cannot assign a score to this wine. Much too young perhaps, I wasted the bottle. Stored in a wine cellar at 55 degrees. Decanted 40 minutes before tasting. Sulfur, sulfur, and more sulfur, all night long. I will return to these in 3 or 4 years and hopefully experience something scoreable.

Used half the bottle for a short-rib recipe, sipped on the rest over the next 12 hours. Surprising amount of red fruit still present. I felt like it was a little sugary somehow? Interesting to have a little later in it's life than was probably intended. I wouldn't call this a "very good" wine, so rating an 85.

Enjoyable but kind of simple and linear. I don’t anticipate that this will benefit from more time. Plenty of mineral and graphite on the nose with a touch of red fruit and herbs. More earthy than fruity.

Wow. One of my favorites. Beautiful nose of bright red fruit right out of the bottle, deep ruby color and legs for days. Flavor of dark red cherries and red fruits with a persistence in the finish the goes on and on. Might even be better than the 2001. This is a home run right now. Don’t wait, but I don’t think you have to rush either. This is a stunner.

Nose was bright red. Tasted of tart cherries, raspberries and iron. The iron was very dominant early, but mellowed over about 3-4 hours. Overall, just ok.

I decided to open something from Italy and landed on the sangiovese because I've been watching videos of WineKings on YouTube. The older British fellow loves sangiovese. I'm rating without a lot of exposure to this grape varietal, so perhaps my filter is off. The nose was much darker and spicier than I expected, perhaps from oak? There was almost a campfire feeling to it. I think I was expecting something brighter. Overall, this wine felt heavy and dense with a linear quality that never really developed into anything more.

Beautiful, fruit forward Musar. Had alongside a 2004 Musar and it was fun to mark the differences. This was much darker red in color, and had a darker bouquet as well. The nose was full of fragrant black fruits, but still had red cherries and spice. The mineral qualities were more subdued. It was very smooth and well integrated. Complimented the cheese and charcuterie board very nicely.

What a beauty. It's time to drink the 2004, I don't think more cellar time will make it any better. Excellent nose more elegant than rustic, but still with those desired mineral-like qualities we Musar enthusiasts love. Color is beginning to fade from bright red to brickish-copper. We decanted for about an hour and then couldn't help but sip as it breathed throughout the evening. We had alongside a 2011 Musar to mark the differences (and let's be honest, it was an excuse to have two Musar's instead of one). I'll comment on the 2011 in the appropriate space, but boy was it fun to do. Tasted lots of bright red fruits, and everything on the nose crossed right over into the palate. This is really fun drinking. Open one of these when you have a long evening in front of you and enjoy the evolution as it breathes.

Really lovely cab. Upon opening, very dark color with a bouquet of black fruit, subtle spice and maybe a tiny touch of cigar that is starting to show a musty quality. This did not transfer to the palate at all, where there was still plenty of blackberry and red cherry. Smooth, medium-long finish.

This bottle was not as good as the one we opened last year. There was a sulfur/phosphorus smell to this one, almost like a lit match. It never really faded, even after several hours. Taste was ok, with tones of reddish fruits and some of the classic notes you expect.

There is no way what I opened can be representative of this wine. Clearly something bad happened to it before I acquired it. Like maybe it sat in the Sahara desert sun for three years, or maybe Jack’s giant incubated it like a golden chicken egg. It was not good. No fruit, no minerals, no anything but stink. I need to buy another bottle to compare them. I will not rate this one as it simply cannot be what should be for this wine.

For a Costco bottle, not bad. It doesn't do anything to stand out as a terrific bottle, but it doesn't do anything be disparaged either. It sips well with a touch of air, and holds its own sitting in the pocket of what you want it to be at a price that can't be beat. Nice job, Costco.

Oh my was this good. Beautiful aromas sing immediately upon pouring into decanter. 30-45 minutes is enough to start enjoying a sip or two. Deep purple color with black and blue fruits. Worth drinking now, and plenty of aging potential. You do not need to wait if you want to try it now. Delicious. The window has opened.

Already drinking wonderfully after about a 1-1.5 hour decant. Deep purple with a beautiful nose of dark red fruit and a hint of graphite and stone. This is a winner. Cellar time is expected but not necessary with a proper decant. Lovely.

A bit of air helps the flavors to brighten and balance. Got some cherry and pepper. The nose was a bit strange for me. I kept getting a slight sulfur undertone? Have a hard time rating this as highly as some other folks. The nose downgrades the score a little for me. Probably 87-88.

Cork came out easily and in good shape. Not a lot of penetration. Some sediment in the bottle. Decent nose in the decanter and developed more fully in the glass about 90-120 minutes into the experience. Dark purple color with notes of cherry and a little tobacco. Tannins are still present. Drink or hold.

In spite of pristine storage for the life of the bottle, the cork was too dry and fell apart during extraction. A bit of sediment in the bottle. Decanted one hour before pairing with ribeye steaks. A little subdued at first but began to develop further about 90+ minutes after decanting. All of the classic Napa cab notes are there, but overall it didn't hold up to some of the other reserve vintages. Nothing wrong, its good - just not as good as it probably should be considering the price tag that has likely come with it. Drink now or hold.

Very easy to drink, though a little past its prime. Opened one about 2 years ago and it was a little better. Classic California cab. Great fruit, softer tannins (due to age) and pretty good out of the bottle, though a little air helped it along. Cork was a little brittle and took some careful work. Time to enjoy them if you have them. They won't get any better.

Really glad I have a few of these. Early reviews were a bit harsh on this "little brother" to Haut Bages Liberal, but it is rounding out nicely. Classic pauillac with great dark fruit and mineral notes. Wife and sister didn't care for the nose as it was a little "mushroomy" but I quite enjoyed it. Company included some refined taste buds and it was enthusiastically received. Give this at least a one hour decant, but taste a little along the way. Super value.

I struggle to justify the price point for this bottle, as it is significantly more expensive than other Bookwalter offerings but doesn't drink any better. For the money, go with Conflict or Suspense at half the price. In terms of experience, there were some nice aspects to the wine - mostly in the bouquet, which had black and red fruits as well as some graphite. The finish was shorter than I expected and the flavor profile was fairly one dimensional.

I was worried that I had missed the window on this one based on some other 2020 reviews. Decanted for an hour and paired with a turkey dinner. The wine really evolved over about 3 hours, and it kept getting better with time. Really nice showing. Should probably drink soon if you have it.

Wow. Just stunning. Laid this down in my cellar 15 years ago and what a wonderful bottle it turned out to be. Paired with a cheese board. Excellent balance and singing with layers of flavor. It is beautiful. There is still plenty of life in the bottle, but I don't think there is any benefit to aging it further. Lots of sediment forming. Drink or hold, but I vote for enjoying it now while it is at its best!

I have to assume that some unknown storage condition in this bottle's history caused it to go south. It was all prunes and mushrooms. I wish I could give this a real rating but it was unfortunately not worth drinking and unfair to give it a rating.

Really solid. There is nothing that makes this wine spectacular, but there is also nothing that makes it unenjoyable. It's just plain good, though on the softer side. Enjoyed after a short decant of about 30 minutes with a cheese board and filet mignon. Yum.

Based on other reviews and pro ratings I was optimistic. The nose is great with lots of black and blue fruit and hints of coffee and chocolate. Not a bad wine, but I was hoping for more elegance and a palate with more complexity. I think it needs more cellar time. Maybe my expectations weren't in the right place. My wife enjoyed it more than I did. She would probably disagree with my rating. Going to let the rest of my bottles age for a while before I come back to them.

I think I gave this 90 points the last time I had it, but this time it was up against a 2004 Chateau Musar. Soft and subtle for a pauillac, but very enjoyable. Tannin is gone and after about a 30-40 minute decant was really good. Continued to stay harmonious over several hours and got better and better as it progressed. Time to enjoy it.

Really nice Musar. Was drinking very nicely after about 90 minutes of decanting. Paired with Wagyu beef. 2004 is more elegant than some other vintages, with a more prominent display of floral and red berries. The minerals and essence of concrete were there, but more muted. Very well balanced and at the front end of it's drinking window. Very little cork penetration. Plenty of time to leave it in the cellar, but no reason to wait if you are itching for it.

Just super. Used a two prong cork remover but don't think I needed to do so. Very little penetration of the cork, so more time in the cellar if you are inclined. Sediment is present, take your time pouring. Pale red rusty color with an incredible nose. Gave this a 3 hour decant, but cheated with a little pour in the glass right away to mark its evolution. Out of the bottle there was strong stone earth, ripe berries and potent minerals, along with other softer floral notes. Given proper time to breathe everything blends harmoniously together to delight the senses. It becomes quite elegant if you have patience to give it the decant-time required. Really loved this wine. There is nothing else quite like it. Drinking fabulously.

Nice 2009 Haut-Medoc with mushroom, earth, tobacco, and dark purple fruits. The musty notes were subtle but present throughout the evening, though not in an unpleasant way. For an inexpensive bottle that had been put away and forgotten about for several years - it was a happy rediscovery. Pair with flavorful cheeses or red meats.

At it's peak. The tannin is gone and the fruit is still very present. Deep purple in the glass with a bit of sediment in the bottle, the bouquet was of sweet red fruits and oak. The palate matched. Showing nicely now, the tannin has calmed down and it doesn't need much decant time. Very soft and subtle compared to other pauillacs. Dark rusty color, with a pretty bouquet of raspberry and a little spice. More elegant than powerful, medium bodied and a nice finish.

Very good red blend with a fruit forward nose and palate. Tasted of red currants, berries and wild flowers. Hits a nice range of high, middle, and low notes. Tannin is mostly gone, so not sure how much aging it has left. Should probably open the last one in the cellar soon. Medium finish. Very enjoyable.
