Still very youthful. Some mature fruit notes but structure still needs to give way.

4/10/23, 9:49 PM - Decanted 90 minutes and drank over two hours. Forward acidity to the end but in a softer package.

Past peak. Hollow and acidic.

Fonseca VP Vertical: Beautiful and expressive nose with dark berries, manure, sewer.
Lovely palate with dark plum/cherry fruit and mint but also a hard structure. Both tannins and acidity still feels very young.
It does however is starting to show a bit of evolution but it is still a young wine. Beautiful wine.

Had that corked flavor from first sip to 5hrs later after decanting. Too bad.

11/9/22, 11:16 AM - we had a bottle last night and it has a very persistent brandy note - very odd - never blew off even after 7 hours - ended up dumping it

Wow - can't believe this was the last bottle of a case purchased on release. The two year Canadian Covid lockdown was not kind to my cellar...

Medium ruby in appearance with no lightening at the rim. Very impressive color.

Pronounced and fully evolved nose of candied red fruit, baking spice, smoked meats and some herbal elements ("garrigue"?). Anyway very complex nose that still retained its freshness.

Medium plus in body with a surprising amount of structure and acidity. Off the charts flavor concentration with a long and savory finish.

Opened and poured and then evaluated the wine over a four hour period.
Deep garnet. On the nose, pronounced black cherry, black plum, coffee, liquorice, chocolate, black pepper.
Wonderful depth of flavours and complexity on the palate with pronounced dried fruits, Jamminess, savoury, cooked blackberry, prune and then layered with leather, gamey, smoke, charred wood, tobacco

14% alcohol but beautifully balanced with medium (+) silky tannins. High acidity, medium (+) body and a very, very long finish.

Developing with plenty of potential for more ageing.

Outstanding

Absolutely heaven! Deep and dark in colour, complex on the nose and palate, leather, tobacco and minerals on the palate. An absolute gem that is currently drinking perfectly!

Beautiful Chablis. Does need 2-3 more years to integrate the oak fully. Creamy limestone, citrus - all the GC hallmarks in here. Amazing QPR.
  • Fuel55 commented:

10/19/21, 9:26 PM - that is correct it seems but the wine definitely has a butter, vanilla edge to it - not sure where that comes from ... ??

Unfortunately this bottle was slightly oxidative. Cough syrup, cherry, redcurrant, and smoke underneath the flaw.

So much complexity. Simply explosive nose. Just showing some age at the rim, and just entering full maturity. Red fruits (mostly dried), eucalyptus, coffee, flowers of all sorts on the palate. Thick, long and lingering. A monumental wine given the vintage. Not in the class of the '98 but still an amazing, amazing glass of syrah.
  • Fuel55 commented:

7/22/21, 8:50 AM - Slowox for an hour then decanted - wine was best when the fruit was fresh in the first 60-90 minutes after decanting. It was fine beyond that but not as nice. So give it a chance to open up but not too long.

31 years old and so youthful. 30-40 years of life left in this beauty. 5 hour slow ox + 1 hour decant to reveal its greatness. Iron. Lots of iron. Like an old Chateau Margaux. Cedar. Lots of cedar. More structure than fruit. Not perfectly in balance but you can forgive that - so much more on offer. Medium full bodied, long and sweet. Let's see if it improves over the next hour or two.

Very complex nose with notes of exotic spices, black cherry, black raspberry, graphite and vanilla toast. Powerful and expansive on the palate, medium-plus finish and a small touch of heat on the finish. A really fantastic wine that was hitting on all cylinders tonight. The heat on the finish did not take away from the enjoyment for me but that's what held me back from giving higher score.
  • Fuel55 commented:

11/6/20, 6:35 PM - I missed the graphite but reading this review that is exactly what this wine exhibits after 2 hours being open.
