As could be expected from a Superiore.de bottle it clearly suffered from a too hot storage.

A first rather closed showing a lot of paprika and slightly unripe red and black fruits. After 30 minutes or so more black fruits and some wood showed. The acidity is fresh but the wood and the tannins show a bitter touch. Not the best vintage for Pontet-Canet.

In the nose fresh and ripe red fruits with forestfruit, rasperries and some black fruits. Further displaying white pepper, smoke and menthol. After some while in the glass also impressions of wood emerge. In the mouth ripe sour cherries with the acidity quickly rising. In the middle part also prunes and warm red fruits. The fruity and juicy aftertastes is dominated by red fruits and a prominent acidity delivering freshness. After some time a bitter touch from the tannines shows up, which will probably settle down after some time in the cellar.

Clearly too young with ripe but sticky tannins. Full bodied with black fruits, a well developed acidity and some wood. After some time in the glass the bitterness showes too much. Give it another 3-5 years.

My previous impression was better. This time rather unbalanced and missing focus. The acidity and bitterness are too present, masking the fruit a bit. Also the wood is a bit too obvious. Showing red and black fruits, and spices.

Complex and appealing nose displaying red fruits, spices and smoke. In the mouth at first slightly unripe red fruits, paprika and the typical Bordeaux-bitterness, but after some extra oxygen the fruits and the tannins showed themselves perfectly ripe. The complex palet also displayed spices, some minerals and a touch of wood. The balance became better with the bitterness being less obvious. This juicy wines possesses a long aftertaste.

Served blind to me, fresh nose with exotic fruits such as mango. In the mouth rather sweet and slightly overripe fruit. Missing the acidity to counter the rather sweet fruit. A bitter touch is found at the end of the middle part. I was quite shocked when hearing the price.

What a surprise!!! A very complex, rich and elegant nose with cedar, spices, pepper, red and black fruits, mocha, plums and smoke. In the mouth these elements return, together with a very precise acidity and a very subtile and lovely bitter touch during the aftertaste. A completely atypical Bordeaux. A great effort!!!

Ripe red fruits, without being overripe or giving stewed impressions, the typical Saint-Estèphe spiciness is present and it possesses a bright acidity. The wood is wel dosed making this wine a well balanced GCC that merits its classification. 91-92.

Lighter style than the 2003 that I drank yesterday. More red fruits, less wood and a more pronounced (cold climate style) acidity. From this vintage you will consume more glasses before its gets boring or heavy than the 2003.

Very concentrated wine and showing a lot of wood. Both characteristics which I normally don't associate with Lafon-Rochet, so the vintage is showing. The fruit was warm and a bit stewed with a lot of paprika. There were some spices. The acidity is there but it interacts too much with the bitterness from the wood, preventing a perfect balance. After 1,5 glass this wine become a bit boring and bit 'too much'.

The focus is on apple related acidity/cider which gets a bit boring after one glass. After some while in the glass this also overpowers the mineral component.

This wine isn't balanced with the biterness being way too dominant. Also too much extraction. This is not a good wine.
