Dark black fruit with nice earthiness. Solid and not over the top, as I feared it might be. Oak was in check--very well balanced.

All right but, as with many Aussies, too oaky in my opinion.

Earthy, delicious. Dark fruit for an Etna Rosso. Great with rustic Italian food. Solid QPR in my opinion.

Received as a gift. If you like high-toned Pinot with acid and minerality, this is terrific. If you like sappy California Pinot, this will not be your style.

Nothing to write home about. Pretty flat, lifeless, boring.

This was really in a great place. Good fruit, but wonderful secondary characteristics starting to show. Amazing with chicken stuffed with feta and prosciutto. Outstanding.

Really outstanding. Amazing structure, spice, fruit, and old-vine character. Very glad I aged this, but will certainly be in a strong state for at least 3 more years.

This did not live up the hype. Nice black fruit and no flaws, but no complexity whatsoever. Just really boring, and poor QPR for that reason.

The 30% Carignane in the blend makes this really interesting with the Zin and PS. Very food-friendly and versatile. Great with Afghan lamb.

Solid, with black fruit playing the lead and some subtle red fruit underneath. We drank this over a 6-hour period, and it went strong the whole time, so no rush on this despite being ten years old. Nice tannin structure. Spicecake notes in the secondary flavors.

The PS really shows. Very nice tannin structure and brambly fruit you can only get with a RRV zin. Great pizza wine--will be good for at least another 5 years.

Solid, but took 2-3 hours to open up in a wide decanter. Wait 10 years for this one.

This was a gift. Has held up very well over time. Not too powerful but that could be due to prior storage or the fact that it's a half bottle so has aged faster due to the format.

If you survey my reviews, it's pretty clear that I am no fan of overt oak, so I was a bit concerned that this Clio would turn out to be an oak monster. However, I found it to be delicious and well balanced for such a big wine--just the right amount of tannins to act as a counterweight to the fruit, and enough acid to hold it all together and avoid being a total fruit bomb. Really great for bold cheeses or steak. Personally I would not wait on this.

88-89. Not objectionable, but boring. The PS, even at 18%, did not create structure. The Zin did not add spice or complexity. Cal-Ital is a nice idea, but this drank like the 4-euro jug of wine you get at a restaurant in Italy, not a $30 bottle of Dry Creek Zin.

In line with the flavor profile I like for the 2006 Napa cabs (dark fruit, more restrained, less ripe), but no real wow factor. Solid. 90-91, drink now or hold up to 10 years.

Fantastic. At first, extremely structured with a nose of charcoal and roasted herbs. After a good hour or two of air and a splash decant through a Vinturi, it really softened and opened up. 93-94, great QPR.

Good, tasty, but not enough structure for my taste. This is likely more an indictment of Paso in general than this particular bottling, but I remember being more impressed with the last non-Dusi Paso bottling from Ridge than this.

Not sure how to rate this. At first it seemed like a normal Etna Rosso, though perhaps a little off. Then it transitioned into a phase where it seemed fizzy in the mouth and unsettling in the stomach. Then it flattened out and tasted of almond skin. Interesting, but this takes "Old World" to a somewhat unsuccessful extreme.

I will refrain from scoring since I am not a Chardonnay fan, but this would certainly suit anyone who likes Chablis. The volcanic soil adds a very interesting element. I much prefer Chablis to California Chard, so if that is your leaning this is definitely worth trying.

For someone who doesn't generally drink white wine, this is delicious. Just a touch of residual sugar brings out some sweet peach that is amazing with the overall liveliness of this wine. Enough acid to make it all work--well done.

This bottle had held up better than the previous one. All right on its own, but fantastic with food after it warmed up from cellar temp a bit. The earth, acid, and secondary characteristics made this a special experience. We also opened the 2008 vintage to compare the two, and that was very New World vs. this bottle's more Burgundian characteristics.

Seems to be past its prime.

**A good friend was here for a special dinner, so I gassed this bottle and put it in the fridge. When I returned to it a couple days later, my dad and I pulled the cork again during a football game. After about 15 minutes, it woke up a little and became far more drinkable. Still past its prime, so don't wait, but perhaps not a lost cause. I wouldn't bring it out for a special occasion, however.
