You want a Barolo of modern style, sweet, easy-drinking, fruit-forward, non-offensive, and nondescript? You have found your match. Ideally, pair it with a well-done steak, followed by a decaf espresso.

Winebar [Various Reds] for 12/16/16 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Plummy, cedar box, poss tobacco? Very interesting, & may have intensity lurking; With air, some earth

P: MF, poss F, body; Almost swtish frt up front, astringency taking over mid palate; Long, dustily tannic finish, but sans harshness. While likely approachable now with food, I'd think this would benefit from 3 yrs or so of cellaring, at which time it might wind up being a STEAL! (Interestingly, with considerably more air on the tasting glass, there was markedly less body -- certainly no more than Med. So, maybe NOT 3 yrs of cellaring? [As I've precious little Bordeaux experience, IF anyone can shed some light on this... ]) The winery's web site has LOTS of press on this. The following, however, is from a vendor's web site: WS 89-92 pts, WE 91, WA 88-90, & Tanzer 90.

12/19/16, 12:55 AM - Depending on the vintage Rollan de By are best after 8-12 years. 2010 is a strong vintage, so if you got more then a bottle I suggest to wait maybe another 2 years and then pop one each year and see where it stands. Given that my 2005 are still going strong, 4-5 years wait might be the sweet spot for the 2010 from now.

I wouldn't expect too much, though. It will integrate nicely and show more Medoc earthiness, but the wine doesn't have that much complexity. But I agree, it has really good QPR.

Light, floral, high toned fruit, delicious. Suspect this will deepen in a few years.

Note that second day was less enjoyable…weak acid and tannins. What does this imply for the future?

9/1/14, 1:36 PM - Lafarge wines, even the village, are made for the long run. I wouldn't touch this before 2017-19...
