Not bad for being a decade old.
Surprised it had fruit and body left
Red
Wow. I completely forgot about this wine.

I was surprised by its youthful tannins, excellent acidity and vibrant nose

Dark garnet color to the rim
Dried cranberry, roasted almond and moss? On the nose

Tart cherry, marzipan, bitter dark chocolate
Medium weight, mid palate
Unfortunately bitter and harsh finish with excessive heat 15% abv

Went well with a pasta and legume dish but not on its own
Red
Typical extracted Cali Cab. Good body, tannin and acidity.

Cherry tobacco, cedar nose. Palate full, med grain tannins

good fruit but extracted, finish lasted long

Popped and decanted for 6 hours. Vigorously swirled every hour.

Nose- kind of muted red fruit, cedar, baking spices
Palate- excellent acidity and tannins. Juicy plum and fig. Pencil lead.

Has many years to integrate further.

28 hours later, after being vacu vin'd. One glass remained. Softer tannins and mouth feel. An excellent wine with years to go

Originally I gave this an 88. It was opened and decanted for 2 hours prior to consumption. Nose was a bit oaky with cherry compote and cola notes. In the mouth, there was good acidity, mildly abrasive tannin structure. Oaky, tart cranberry flavors with a pungent alcohol level

Leaving it in a vacu vin decanter over night.. Actually 24 hours. This wine has come together nicely, thus the increase in score. The palate has come together nicely. The tart cranberry has softened and the oak isn't as pronounced. There is still good acidity. Some baking spices have revealed themselves on the nose. Overall I like this wine better than yesterday.

P- silky tannin's, mid to low acidity, a suppleness of overall texture. a tart, over ripe blackberry, hint of vanilla, stewed or warmed plum compote

an unexpected but satisfyingly great wine. probably not much more life left so I'm glad I have 2 more. will consume within 5 years

The wine is a beautiful Syrah from 2009, a great vintage. The nose is floral with that brambly blackberry aroma. In the mouth it has great acidity, silky tannins with just a bit of bite. Blackberry, plum and a bit of roasted meat lead to a great ending.

82? Yes, for a $2 bottle of Cab from Italy with a screw cap!
Probably more in line with a score in the high 70's, but I was surprised how well it truly was for the QPR. I'll detail a tasting note at another time

C- deep, dark garnet

N- right from the start there is a scent of acetone/nail polish (ethyl acetate) that seemed to blow off but didn't. Raspberry coulis, dark chocolate

P- lush, sweet cherries, minty notes, moderate acidity, moderate tannins

Unfortunately, and confirmed by a few people, the actone notes distracted from it's enjoyment

UPDATE: 1/1/12 Took btl home and VacuVin'd that night. revisited today and the same nose is there
