This was put into a flight of Bordeaux as a ringer. It stood out as being a bit hot and one-dimensional. Not bad for the price and genre, but obviously not my favorite.

A bit dirty on the nose at first. Becomes better with time. Not the best of these bottles, but still a very nice mature Bordeaux.

A bit oxidized at first, but not completely DOA. Surprisingly, it resolves itself with enough time (3 hours) and becomes really delicious with that terrific chalky intensity.

Spice and oak. Has a very nice velvety mouthfeel, but clearly not giving everything it has in store now. Better on day 2. For the cellar.

Very nice, deep wine with a lovely structure. The aromatics are complex with excellent fruit from the darker end of the spectrum and the usual Gevrey earth with some vegetal notes also. A wonderful village wine as usual from this address.

Nicely complex, smooth and finely balanced. Some vegetal aromas. Becomes very nice with three hours of air. On the second day and after three hours it really starts kicking, delivering a wonderful experience of a deep, complete and complex red Burgundy. Really outstanding.

My first Rhys Syrah. Nicely complex and with a perfect balance. Classic Syrah aromatics. Expressive, but not too overt fruit. A very nice acidic structure. Will clearly benefit from further aging, but quite outstanding already. I love Cote Rotie and this fits wonderfully in my boat.

Closed upon opening. Needs many hours to even partially open up. Has a very nice intensive core of fresh fruit and wonderful purity. This will probably develop into a very nice wine with a few more years in cellar.

A very nice Gevrey nose. In the mouth quite tight, but becomes slowly smoother with air. Developes very nice earthy and spicy aromatics after several hours. A really great village wine that will be still much better after a few more years in cellar.

Young and a bit closed. With enough air it slowly opens up to reveal a nice combination of (not too obvious) Grenache fruit and lovely, much darker Syrah tones. An excellent CdR with a long life ahead.

Very promising immediately. Young and initially a bit tight. Becomes better all the time until the last drop about three hours from the start. Fresh with chalky minerality and with powerful, complex aromatics that are classically Chablis. This was really a great bottle and I'm looking forward to trying my remaining bottles in a few years. Fingers crossed about premox, though.

Red fruits and spicy oak on the nose. Same aromatics in the mouth with a nice mouthfeel, even if quite tight still. Strong acidic structure.

Spicy, complex aromatics. Great depth of flavor with a lovely structure. This is a really good example of Chambertin, even thought the usual Chambertin wouldn't probably be drinking this well this young (unless it was a Rousseau).

Slight reduction at first, but becomes clean after about half an hour. Stone fruits and minerality. Lovely freshness. The mouthfeel is really nice as is the balance. A quality villages.

Sweet and complex. Developes a nice minerality with time in the glass. Best on day 4, when the forward fruitiness has given more room for that lovely refreshing minerality and aromatics have become wonderfully complex.

A primary nose of sweet fruit and earth. Lovely perfume. In the mouth still very primary for my taste, but with nice depth and lovely balance. Some brett also that gets almost offensive on day 2. The score is for the first days performance.

Wonderfully aromatic. Drinking well almost immediately. Very complex and deep in the mouth with ripe red fruits on the fore and then some very lovely game and soil aromas among many other things. The aftertaste is really long and lovely. The structure at first seems to be a bit on the softer side (at least for 2010 Burgundy), but firms up nicely with some air. In the end the balance is excellent and every piece has found its place in the puzzle.

Very smooth and nice. Aromatically this is (obviously for a 2009) riper than many other vintages of this wine, so stylistically not my favorite, but really good nevertheless.

At first this shows a soft structure with ripe strawberry aromatics; not that positive for my taste. After 3+ hours it became a completely different wine. The structure had become much better and the obvious ripeness disappeared. I've seen this before with Bertheau wines and I knew to expect that. The performance of the left overs on day 2 was better still and really showed that this is a quality Chambolle from a quality producer.
