At this point the wine was a little out of balance showing hot and more dried fruit than anything resembling fresh. Could be on major decline or in the transition to more earthy flavors, but I don't know how that would mask the heat of the alcohol.

Just like almost any Zin Larry Turley produces, this is fabulous. It reminds me of the flavors I've tasted from other old vine Zins grown in the sandy soils of Contra Costa County with great winemaking! This wine got better as it sat open while drinking the bottle.

I gave 2 extra points for the ability to grow and make Virginia red wine without the usual Virginia red wine characteristics. The attention to detail in all aspects of growing and making this wine are amazing! Quite an interesting story they have too!

Given the age it evolved in many directions while open and settled into a very pleasant wine with balance. Made my mouth water without a lot of perceptible acidity. Gave me the impression of mildly juicy.

Fabulous riesling that aged beautifully and is now showing those Petrol aromas like a fine German Riesling. Wish I had more.

Maybe this one had peaked earlier or this bottle was in a dumb phase as the wonderful fruit I associate from Clos Pepe Pinots was lacking except for a bit of tart cherry. Not memorable at all.

This wine shows it still had life and showed it's pedigree from a great vineyard. Tannins are soft but the fruit is still there.

More of what you would expect in a Spatlese level of sweetness. Very nice, but I'd be hard pressed to call it a dessert wine.

Dark in color from age and starting to show some dried fruit characteristics. Still mouthwatering and very pleasant to drink.

This wine has really developed over time and changed significantly from release. Light in color and smooth as silk, this wine has nicely developed red fruit and gives me the impression of being very juicy and mouthwatering (but not from acidity). Just extremely pleasant to drink.

Dark and nicely developed fruit. This wine is very impressive right now with concentrated flavors and aromas. This wine still has plenty of stuffing for the long haul.

Better after a while of opening up. This reminded me of some of the great Guigal Northern Rhones or Reynvaan in it's flavor profile. Great wine and a good value for the quality.

Perfect amount of oak along with great balance. Tropical fruits, toasted marshmallow, creme brûlée and vibrant acidity! It had everything I love in a Chardonnay.

This is a beautiful full blown Chardonnay with caramel and butterscotch notes with a hint of smoke from the barrel. Great fruit and acidity to balance it all out. My favorite style and Acacia nailed this one. Reminds me of an Aubert Lauren.
