Floral notes, red fruit with underbrush notes on the nose. Red fruit with subtle sweetness, underbrush, earth, leather note before a savory finish. Medium bodied, medium acid, plush lifted mineral finish. Not heavy-handed in the slightest and it really hit it's stride after about a 30 min decant. Classic poised Brunello at the start of its drinking window. Drink now or hold another 10.

Really, if you wanted to know what Brunello is supposed to be, then this is it.

375ml bottle. At home in San Fran.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of black peppers, white peppers, olives, brambly herbs, cedarwood, black cherries, blackberries, boysenberries, touch of vanilla. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.6%), fine smooth medium tannins that get slightly more tough textured with more air, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, boysenberries, black and white peppers, olives, cedarwood, baking spices, brambly earth, salty minerals. Long finish.
Very good quality. Lots of complexity and depth despite it generally seeming quite soft. Certainly interesting to see how this develops over the next 5 years. Feels very much like a black fruited version of Ridge's Zinfandel blends to me.
A blend of 19 different varieties planted at the Bedrock Vineyard since 1888. Including Zinfandel, Carignane, Mataro, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet.
Aged in 40% new French oak.

A very beautiful example of the varietal; in a near-perfect drinking window. Displaying finessed flavors of black raspberry, blackberry, purple berry/plum, and hints of blueberry. Subtle asphalt notes as well.

Missing just a little complexity for me in terms of secondary olive, charcoal, and mineral notes sometimes found in upper end PSs. This was a little more of a red/black profile versus the purple/blue/black fruit that I tend to prefer.

93 points from me. My other half thought it was a 95+, stating it was one of the most balanced and smooth PSs she had ever tasted. A solid PS, especially for the QPR. Not as intense as the Palisades series, but still noteworthy. Paired great with gojuchang meatballs.

Dark crimson color; similar to the last bottle over one year ago; crushed blackberries and subtle charred wood and leather notes on the nose. Rich and opulent but not overextracted, with a youthful, forward mix of red and black fruits; tannins well integrated and drinking really well now. Power and finesse. A California Bordeaux style blend at its best.

Dark garnet to purple. Very pretty mint , violets, and then just fills the glass with cherry, spice , and crisp acidity. This seems to focus more on the fresh red fruit and the cherries and not pepper and dark fruit. Really good and fun to drink. Poured blind, as part of a 3 wine 2011 Papera zinfandel flight. Of the three wines (the other two being Carlisle and Williams Selyem), this finished last place for me by a good distance. Why? For one, it tasted and looked aged. By first guess was some kind of older zin, like something 10 years of age, say 2006 vintage. It had a roasted, mulled quality, tasting tired. There was also a spearmint gum note to me in the finish, like a stick of Doublemint was flavored into it. Surprising, as given the vintage and the skill of Bedrock, I would not have expected this but again, this was served blind and my notes were honest to what was behind the foil.

Never really got this bottling. My wife, a huge Bedrock fan, didn't finish her glass and switched to Dragon's Milk Beer. I have had this a few times and its been quite consistent. Just not a lot of fruit here. Purple in color. The nose has leather, pepper and slight black raspberries. On the palate, plums. Enough fruit that I doubt there is any low level TCA, but not enough to make this wine great. Not enough complexity either. Its ok, but way below what I had hoped for. Oh well. My last bottle, we drank about half (normally a Bedrock wine is consumed quickly), and I will see if there is any change overnight.
  • PSUSteve commented:

12/30/15, 4:35 PM - I haven't had this yet. In the Bedrock retrospective earlier this year, Chris said not to touch for 5 years and that it will last for 20. Sounds like in 5 years, there will be little fruit left.

Excellent. The nose exhibited aromas of toffee, black cherry, and black raspberry. On the palate, we found intense peony florals, along with black cherry, raspberry, orange peel, faint earthiness, and just a hint of grape stem. The tannins and acidity were in perfect balance. My wife couldn't stop raving about how good the wine was.

I find Windy Oaks to be, consistently, the best of California Pinots. Grand Cru Burgundy of this quality would cost 4 or 5 times the price.

One glass a day for four straight days and I can't say enough about this wine. The nose was so very compelling and vibrant every day; strong leather, smoked cedar, mesquite, blackberries, and mocha; even now on day four I can smell it in the glass from two feet away. I'm not a big fan of those Syrahs full of wild game and olive brine and this is not that; instead, a wonderful balance of dark fruits, mild oak and cedar, pepper, bacon and a smattering of floral notes. Great balance of acid and tannin and so very smooth in all aspects. 92+

This wine is SO fantastic, and somewhat unique in the world of the Ca Cabernet......dark glycerin berry fruit...wild liqueur berry fruit....not too sweet, but plenty of ripeness to go along with the silky yet firm, dusty graphite powder dry tannin....an amazingly pure smooth texture, but still quite youthful and fit. Tasty flavors of mocha, licorice, creme de cassis, spice box, smoked wood, green tobacco leaves....all impeccably balanced...plenty of life left too. Where have you been all my life baby?!!! Awesome!

Opened about 30 mins ago, placed into the freezer to chill the wine down further. I've not tried this previously and when I bought it in the mailer, I didn't pay attention to the story. Now realize this is organically farmed, 60 year old vines, stainless and neutral wood, a blend of Gewurz, Trosseau Gris and Riesling. First thing comes to mind is that it's great Mike has white wine now for sale. I knew I had the bottles but finally to get some out of the bottle and into the glass makes the point finally. Smells like these varietals, with the orange blossom, floral, even some lime skin. Glossy texture, a big dollop and core of perfectly ripe pear, lime again and the spicy note from the Gewurz. There is some acid here but what takes the center is the fruit expression, a medium plus weight. in hindsight, I should have wish listed more of this stuff. Wonderful.
