Oh no! My last one.
Nose of sweet red and purple fruits. Luscious taste of black cherry, red rasberry and spice. After some air it settles in on a solid black cherry. Medium long, soft finish.

Seriously good CA cabsauv hardly unexpected from CHWines and 2014. Nose of black fruit with cassis and a touch of menthol after an hourlong breathe, its black cherry on the attack widening in softer tones of plum mid palate as the tannins catch up finishing long and savourful with notes of slate and cedar. Well done again Cam.

Blind White Burgundy: The single blind lineup was:
- 2011 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
- 2016 Louis Jadot (Duc de Magenta) Chassagne-Montrachet "Morgeot - Clos de la Chapelle"
- 2014 Xavier Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres
- 2012 Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon
- 1990 Fabien Coche-Bouillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres
- 2018 Rombauer Vineyards Chardonnay Carneros
- 2013 St Innocent Shea Pinot Noir (Bonus Red)

This wine was thrown in as the rube of the bunch. This wine was very upsetting to the 5 of us, because it garnered 3 first places, including mine, and was wine of the night by the group. Again, this was single blind. I don't know if this wine stood out for being different, or some other factor. For myself, I loved the acidity, it had gorgeous golden yellow fruit and the palate was explosive compared to the other bottles. Wines typically lose points when they're tasted blind, and I'm scoring this bottle significantly higher than I've ever scored a Rombauer chardonnay. I'm also going to buy more.

Gold medal winner and 94 rating according to the website. Only 600 cases made so good luck finding another bottle of this gem. I wanted to hold on to it for another few years but I broke the cork off an older bordeaux I was opening for a friend and went into panic mode. I unintentionally pulled this bottle, but it was incredible. This will be appreciated by your wine snob friends. I lamented the fact that my friend who "loves red wine" on this occasion didn't really appreciate how good this was, especially when you take into account its cost. Fruity yet rich tasting with no harsh tannins aftertaste. There, I just used all of the wine description adjectives I currently have in my vernacular, so that must tell you something.

Myriad, Quivet, and others: Showing even more ripeness than when I last sampled it in August, the 2018 GIII shows the familiar ripeness of the Myriad GIII fruit vintage after vintage; round, ready, and fairly sweet. An extrovert to be sure, if but a little smoother than the 2016 in terms of the 2016’s overt power and push of concentration. The 2018 is no less driven , it just seems to execute its delivery of fruit with a tad more cadence. Finishes slightly sweet, round, and ripe. 95++ points.

I agree with Inocencio: this wine needs air! The first taste after opening was very acidic: I was afraid that the bottle had already gone bad. After an hour or two, that was gone, but the wine felt a bit out of balance: fine to drink, but not impressive. I drank the rest the next day: now, it all came together, with various notes of spices and dark fruits, indeed a bit like a Prisoner wine ( not as good, but still, I agree with rsmithjr222@hotmail.com ), very enjoyable! At that point I savoured every sip. Thus my score. Day three? Wouldn’t know: I finished the bottle on day two.

This incredible wine has deepened and broadened in the three years since I tasted it last (4/17 - 93 points). The price cannot be ignored ($125!?!), but the wine speaks for itself: this has the intensity and ripeness you'd expect from a Mike Smith production, but it also has the earthy and prickly aspects, now integrated (but not too much), that give this wine incredible life and character. Bottom line, this is a stunning interpretation of LPV, easily besting some of the 2012s from this vineyard that I've tasted this year (e.g., Carter, Fairchild).

Dark purple in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of boysenberry, saddle leather, fresh toast, and dried rosemary (with a hint of dried rose petal). Tastes of luscious blackberry, pencil lead, peppercorn, and bay leaf, with a incredible, layered, lingering, and bright finish that defines aged Napa Cabernet in the best of ways - rustic (authentic?) in flavor and silky in mouthfeel, sweet but energetic (yes, the acidity! the acidity!). 15.1% alcohol. Decant at least an hour. Still going strong on second day. Even if you regularly drink good wine, this kind of bottle reminds you what great wine taste like - just fantastic. 96+.

This dark and rich Cabernet blend has a depth and class of wines far more expensive - and it is completely delicious right now. Dark purple in color; full in body; enticing aromas of blueberry, espresso, graphite, herbs, and baking spices. Tastes of black cherry, fresh blueberry, cocoa beans, cardamon, and pepper, with a sweet and grainy finish that goes on and on. Blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. Still going (quite strongly) on second day. 14.9% alcohol. Decant at least an hour.

This reminds me of a more savory version of the Vice Versa wine, also a blend of top sites in which Melka is involved. (From what I can tell, Lithology pulls from BTK, GIII, LPV, Pritchard Hill, and Oakville Ranch - so not bad locations.) This manages to be earthy while also being forward and modern, something that is harder to do than it sounds. This also serves notice to Cabernet blends in the $110-125 price bracket (I'm looking at you, Realm): real, original, even profound wine can happen at this price point. Although this label is new to me, it's quite a discovery. 95+ for now, with upside in 6-12 months or later.

An awesome little gem. Light straw in color with a bright, clear body.
Crisp, tart, and refreshing mouthfeel but still luscious enough to have significant length on the palate with flavors of apple, kiwi, mango, cumquat, and pineapple. The bouquet includes jasmine, citrus, and honey-roasted nuts. The alcohol is completely in check and balance. Blind, I would have called Chardonnay but I really don’t know what the blend is here. A great accompaniment to tonight’s swordfish.

Cork out after 37 years and immediately I could smell that the wine was in a good place. Slow oxidised in the bottle for three hours with no decant. The aroma was amazing and so potent of dark fruit, cedar and smoke. Great on the palate - perhaps my only crticism would be that there was not quite the depth of fruit that I was expecting to match the nose. Still delicious and on this showing, there was no hurry to drink it - but it was my 50th Birthday....

Two words sum up my thoughts on this wine. The first is "extracted" - the fruit here tends towards plums, prunes, and raisins; whatever kind of ripe and dried fruit you can think of, this wine has it. The second word is "chunky." In addition to the excess of fruit, the oak treatment - like some kind of Pompeian volcanic ash - coats, almost ossifies every aspect of the wine with tastes of cedar, sawdust, and burnt toast. To paraphrase Ramsay, anyone who tells you that this is a subtle wine, hasn't been paying attention.

Still, it's not all bad. It's not all good - obviously not #1 Wine Of The Year good - but it holds together fine, even if it bursts at the seams a bit. Cherry red in color and full (like Vitamin D milk full) in body, the wine offers a pungent nose of boysenberry, fruit cake, menthol, and baking spices (maybe too many baking spices, like when you accidentally add a tablespoon when the recipe calls for a teaspoon). Tastes of blueberry, smashed raspberry, prune, and tree bark, with a somewhat dry finish. Blend of 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot. 14.5% alcohol. Absolutely decant for an hour or two.

I'm in the pro-oak (and pro-new-oak) side of the wine drinking population (the silent majority, to be sure!), but my complaint about this (and most) Duckhorn reds is that they're just a bit clumsy. There is power and complexity, but there's also wood chips and prunes. It's like the difference between a high school lineman and a pro; both are big and strong and maybe even weigh the same amount, but, when they come off the snap, one moves - and the other dances. This wine just moves - not horribly, but nowhere near ready for the big leagues.

Came across this cab in the secondary market at a really nice price and decided to give it a shot in light of the 93 rating from WA for the 2016 vintage - I figured how much worse could the 2015 vintage be. Dark ruby fruit - dark currants, dark cherry, and strawberry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth/concentration for the price point - medium body. Nice rich flavors of dark berries and some spice box - fairly prominent strawberry profile which I’ve never really experienced much in the past with a cab. Fairly long finish. Popped/poured but drank out of a decanter for a couple hours. Improved a little with time and took around one hour to open-up. Decent bottle for $28 in the secondary market, however, a lot of tough competition at the Winery direct price of $80. 100% cab.

Well, this is the 7th bottle we drank of the Leoville Las Cases 1982.

And it just makes me wonder whether we wine afficionados just don't want to face the fact this famous domain simply did not produce a great Las Cases in 1982 despite the mythical vintage. The wine is serious, broad, masculine, has depth and class but it does lack fruit intensity. Its a grand wine while its just not super appealing, its not a love fest. In comparison to the 1986 is for sure is the lesser wine. I would vote the 1986 to be the 1982 as it has everything you look for in a grand seigneur of a top vintage. The 1982 simply isn't that.

This is the best Mondavi To Kalon Cabernet I have ever tasted. While this wine regularly delivers balance and energy, this particular vintage has a fullness and depth that are quite appealing. It's still on the reserved end, but less so than, say, the 2012 or 2014. If you can find it at a discount, it's a value in the $100/110-ish range of Napa Cabernets.

Cherry red in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of black cherry, cocoa powder, anise, and gravel. Popped and did a fast 1-pass decant.

This is a dark red/black color with a pretty big dark fruit and cherry aroma. Taste follows the aroma nicely with black fruit and minerals, somewhat heavy in oak, with med-low acidity and smooth tannins. All in all, this is powerful, but still very smooth and balanced and even though it’s 15.2%, there’s no heat at all. I really do like wines from Monte Russo.

I’d give it 90/91 Points and a Very Good QPR. Not sure this is the “95” that Steve Heimoff gave it, I’m much more in the 90 Point camp of Wine Enthusiast. And while this is probably the most expensive Cameron Hughes I’ve ever bought (I like to get them from Costco with the substantial savings), this is also probably the highest score I've given a CH Cabernet.

8/31/18, 8:29 AM - Thanks for the tasting note. I will have to try one of my 2013's. The 2012 Monte Rosso's are fabulous.... As for the SH rating he gives out 90+ like they are free toothpaste at the dentisit office. My feeling is 92-93 is a good rating on this wine.

Very nice, did a rapid decant on this bottle. Very similar to the last bottle, in fact, I think I’d raise this to 90 points. Excellent QBR for the price paid. And yes, I’m getting more from WTSO.

Dark, ruby color. Full bodied cab with tobacco notes. Very tight tannins mean this will age for many more years.

This rich and open-knit mountain Cabernet is drinking impressively right now - full of layered fruit and integrated oak, this is a solid value at $75 (or less). Ideally wait another year or two to open, but this is an impressive wine today, if you don’t mind a few dusty tannins to go with lovely, complex mountain fruit.

Ruby red in color, full in body, nose of ripe blackberry, graphite, lavender, and leather, with a woodsy undertone that reminds me of coming home to a wood-burning stove on a cold, snowy day (sorry - forgive the association to my childhood in Michigan!). Layered tastes of mountain blueberry (i.e., more tart, less sweet), baking chocolate, rosemary, and fresh-cut cedar, with a finish that is equal parts mouth-coating tannin and palate-pleasing sweetness. 14.5% alcohol. Blend of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, and 2% Malbec.

This is plainly not a wine from the valley floor - the fruit is more chiseled than plush, and the tannins are more dry than sweet. For me, two things stood out: (1) a real depth of fruit (i.e., concentrated, intense, ripe yet fresh); and (2) a deft use of oak (i.e., rounding out the hard edges, providing a warm and silky mouthfeel, but not overwhelming everything else). Compared to other Chris Carpenter wines tasted recently, this was far more open and enjoyable than the 2013 Mt. Brave Cabernet, but it was almost as complex as the 2014 La Jota Cabernet (which was more round and accessible). Regardless, this is an impressive wine at a fair price, and I’m looking forward to opening another bottle in 2019 (or later).

Big scores from WA and AG, but it seemed like the wine ended up at 91 or 92.

Aggressive tannins took years to calm down, so in a good place in 2018. A decant would still be useful. 15.0% ABV.

4/4/18, 11:43 AM - Although i find this wine very nice i am hard pressed to rate it 96. 96 point wines should really “sing” to you, just 4 points away from 100. Only tasted 2 100 point wines myself: 1959 Haut Brion and 1978 Diamond Creek volcanic hill. But glad you enjoyed the Chad . Cheers

Despite my heavy skepticism toward the CH wines over the years (the bottle variation, for example), this particular lot delivers well, repeatedly. A relatively ripe cab, but it has the structure, acidity, and complexity. Improved significantly over several hours of decanting, exhibiting red currant, blackberry, and blue fruit notes on the palate. Better showing than the over-hyped 2013 Clos du Val Cab, of which I have had several bottles over the last 8-10 months.

Delicious. Much better than when last tried a bottle a couple years ago. Has matured nicely and not a overly strong punch to the palate.
