Several others have had bottles not consistent with the predominant view on this wine. This is my 3rd and last bottle, and it is not in good shape. I sense oxidation, but it may just be the barrel has left a very bad mark on the wine. In any case, this wine does not compare to the first 2 bottles, one of which I rated 93 in 2014. No score due to the uncertainty of the problem.

First night, a little disappointing due to some harshness and awkward integration. Second night, everything got much better and the fruit came to the party.

An excellent, well balanced and completely integrated. It was more interesting on the first night compared to the second. The second night, it seems a little restrained without some of the bright notes I got the first night. Initially, there was some nice leather and forest floor.

Excellent fruit; bright and with some hint of dried prunes and high cherry notes. The tannic structure is smooth, but still fairly dominant.

I didn't detect much, if any, green pepper in this bottle, as previously noted. It appears to have faded into the background, while the fruit has remained rich and flavorful.

Very slow to open up, but once it got going it was spectacular. We decanted for 1 hour and then had to give it another hour before it decided to wake up. For this wine patience is definitely a virtue that will be rewarded.

This wine has good maturity and is in a nice spot. Lots of all spice, nutmeg, anise spice with some sweet fruit having an elegant dried prune note. Very enjoyable Barbaresco.

Excellent! Deep, dark and rich color. Big fruit, but not over the top; just a very nice balance with rich middle and clean, long finish. I am finding I really like these right bank wines that are big majority of Merlot and no Cab. Just a very classy and elegant wine.

3 more years of bottle age has helped this wine considerably. It is, of course, more integrated, which has helped bring it into a better balance. It now has a nice black pepper nose, with hints of dried meat. There is a mild astringency that I believe some associate with bacon fat and meat, but I am kind of thinking it has walnut tones. The fruit is big in the middle, as one would expect with a very nice long finish of fruit and tartness. This is pretty darn good for $23.

Was ranked #3 by group at '09 vs. '10, although it was my 1st place wine. Excellent, rich fruit with grand balance and smooth middle. The integration seems complete with a wonderfully long finish. It was decanted for 2.5 hrs before tasting and had another1.5 hours before it was really singing.

The "green" was a little too dominant in this bottle, even though there is good fruit. May need more time to work out the balance. Placed last in the '09 vs '10 tasting. Although it had a couple of fans, most were unimpressed.

Ranked near the bottom by group at '09 vs '10 tasting, but was my 3rd place wine. This wine and its sister from '10 had a fairly strong "green" or "stem" contribution on the palate. Several found this offensive, and I would agree that the '10 may need more time to integrate this essence. However, I thought the '09 was well balanced and at a good place if you pair the wine with steak or roast. You would not sip this wine on its own.

Lower half of '09 vs '10 tasting. In this bunch, Malescot, Branaire, Poujeaux, Marsalette, rank correlated well with price. '09 had slight edge on '10. I think '10 needs a few more years, but '09 is ready to go.

Took 2nd in '09 vs '10 tasting, but not in my top 4. Even with 2.5 hour decant, this could use more, or wait 5 more years before opening the brothers. It has really good bones, but probably needs more time to get them organized.

Took 1st in '09 vs '10 tasting, although I preferred the Branaire-Ducru '09 and '10. Maybe my taste buds were off that night. I kept getting a "baby diaper" nose (not soiled) that dampened my enthusiasm. Plenty of fruit and balanced on the palate.

Rather thin and light for a Brunello. I had hoped for more, but at $26 I guess I should have been more realistic in my expectations. Not a great deal of complexity or interest.

Was 1st place in the Barolo/Barbaresco Tasting. It won by a large margin from the panel beating out a '96 Gaja, an '01 Pio Cesare, and an '07 Domenico. This was a big, but pleasant surprise. There was a nice mix of leather, cherry, anise, and nutmeg on the nose. Had a great acid lift on the front with loads of fruit throughout and a typical, soft tannin finish that was long and balanced.

Used for latter 1/2 of turkey dinner. Son had the same score, 92. This was a beautiful wine, although not up the standards of the Grand Cru that preceded it. Had excellent fruit front and middle, and some nice spice. There was a tad harshness and stems on the finish. The finish was quite long, but just didn't have the same quite the same fullness and was not quite able to make the complete statement with the same quality as the other.

Phenolics are starting to ooze forth in this Reisling in both nose and palate. This wine is very big and demands a strong flavored meal to complement such bold acid and fruit.

What a great bottle from Lagrange. 2005 doesn't get as good of a press as 2000, 2009, and 2010, but it certainly deserves it. This wine has come together with all the right pieces, where the fruit is still bright and holding up wonderfully, while the tannin is soft and fine grained.

Here is another Brunello '06 that is really singing. It took 2006 a long time to come together, but it certainly has now. This was a lovely, complex wine with really excellent notes of spice, earth, and leather on the nose. I spent a long time taking it in before finishing the last glass.
