The nose on citrus fruits and chalk

I enjoyed the 2016 a lot, but 2017 is way too young right now. The wine is very strict, straight, and the juice, although of very good quality, is still struggling to fully express itself. It is very primary, with a nice salient acidity. The finish is like the wine tasted: compact.

So be patient.

Nose dominated by mineral salts and wet stone.

Mouth of great straightness. It is pure and laser-cut, insolently young for a 12-year-old Riesling. It's really very straight, maybe a little too much, but the juice is of high quality with enormous tension on an acidity that remains dominant without unbalancing the wine. Nice stony finish with a saline length that stretches well.

Very good, but perhaps too much of an excessive rigor.

Minty nose, cedar, cigar and earthy aromas.

Mouth where the menthol dominates at first which gives a very fresh side to the juice which then unfolds the typical aromas of the beautiful well-born Bordeaux: a magnificent fruit, coated with cigar and cedars. Complexity and tertiary aromas are present with herbaceous and earthy aromas in the second part of the mouth. Everything is linked perfectly but it lacks the depth of the great Angelus like 1990, nevertheless, the bottle gives a lot of pleasure and we remain on a high level. Beautiful earthy and herbaceous finish that stretches over a long length.

Excellent.

What complexity in this rosé! It's rare. It starts on the nose, with scents of lavender, a basket of red fruits, smoke and wet stone.

The mouth is in total harmony with the nose. First there is a creamy foam, and a magnificent freshness with just enough tension for this textured rosé to release all its juice. The red fruit is bright, but very quickly gives way to wet stone, which dominates, with ashes and a floral side. The whole imposes itself, it is harmonious, there is an obvious presence. Great finish as saline as floral that stretches in elegance and length.

Great rosé.

Sanguine and meaty nose, blueberries and earth

Surprisingly very smooth on the palate for a Californian Syrah grading at 15.3°. The juice is textured and very elegant. It's practically silky. The aromas enter gently into tertiary notes, the blueberry giving way to earthy and sanguine notes. The harmony and complexity that emerge from the wine is perfect, on a balance of great class. The wine is racy with a gliding texture from start to finish. Superb final on the blood orange which opens the way to an infinite length.

Great wine.

Nose of fresh bread, ashes and red fruits.

Very energetic and concentrated palate. Ethereal effervescence. The juice is of a magnificent concentration. Vinous aromas, ashes and red fruits of great freshness intertwine. I find neither the elegance nor the oxidative character of the father, but an enormous intensity. Great saline and vinous finish that stretches on a rare intensity.

Excellent but in a very different style from that of Anselme, less elegant but more intense in my opinion. It's closer to an Egly.

Nose of cherry and plum. Throughout the tasting, the candied fruit will stand out.

The palate is much more supple than my previous Valentini. Salty aromas, salted butter caramels, a wide range of spices and a still bright fruit, all coated in a fluid juice that stretches well thanks to a nice acidity. I must admit to being a little surprised by the profile of the wine, which is more Burgundian than Abruzzo. Very spicy and saline finish that lacks a little intensity compared to my reference on this wine.

Excellent, but I expected more from this mature Valentini.

Grapes sourced around the Montagne de Reims.

Barely evolved dress. The effervescence will disappear as the tasting progresses.

Very pure and airy nose on orange, caramel and vanilla.

Creamy on the palate with a nice acid frame. The pastry and citrus aromas still dominate in the mouth, it remains very young, the tension is magnificent, a lot of energy. A touch of wood in the second half emerges, but in a very elegant way, all mixed with orange. Saline and chalky finish on a length that would have deserved more length to complete the picture.

Excellent.

Quite shy nose on yeast and apple.

Quite rich on the palate with a good texture, we guess the extra “fat” with the DT, beautiful aromas of orchards emerge, with candied lemon and apple. Oxidation point. Good fresh and vinous finish.

It's good but I expected more, especially on the nose.

Nose of candied apricot and honey.

Very viscous mouth, it almost looks like maple syrup as it is dense. The acidity is there to bring tension and ensure that the juice remains drinkable and loose. Aromas of candied almonds invade the palate. Big finish on the peach which brings a little freshness to the whole and which coats everything in its path over a significant length.

Very good, but too viscous for my taste, a question of style.

Splendid nose of great Pinot: basket of crunchy red fruits and rose petals on an earthy background

The palate is that of a cold Burgundian beauty that I love so much. It is first extremely textured, vaporous like silk and with a natural presence. The structure is not to be outdone with an attack on red fruits. We bite into blueberries, cherries and raspberries at the same time. The freshness of the aromas is magnificent, this bottle is clearly 10 years younger. Then come more rocky aromas, the wet stone stands out clearly and mingles with the faded rose which takes over at the end of the mouth. The wine has a magnificent balance between laser-cut acidity and dense juice, the whole stretching perfectly. Great majestic finish where wet stone and mineral salts take over, all over a magical length.

Grand Pinot, a lord of Burgundy!

5th time I come across this bottle whose price has now skyrocketed

Extremely rich nose between candied orange, curry, hazelnut and grilled almonds.

On the palate, the wine is less structured than the previous bottles. In fact, it's a V6 that runs on 5 legs as they say. Once the nose settles down a bit, the mouth takes on volume with an obvious vinosity and roasted aromas of coffee beans. Then the nose takes over and the mouth runs out of steam. And vice versa. In fact, it is quite frustrating since there is no harmony between the nose and the mouth. The bitters remain beautiful on the finish, which opens the way to a grand, saline and intense finish with great length, more in line with the pedigree of the wine.

It is sometimes necessary to accept that certain bottles of a cuvée which is now 35 years old are weaker than others. It remains excellent, but other vintages are at their peak now, I remain very happy to have drunk this vintage at its best moment.

Nose on lemon and yeast.

Effervescence a little too abundant for my taste.

Very lively on the palate, still compact, but with a good, very chalky juice that will gain in length over the course of the tasting. Good finish on the freshness.

Nose of enormous richness, apple, pear then spices, with curry, ginger and cinnamon.

The palate reflects this solar vintage. It's creamy with a dense juice that restores the nose, first with ripe fruit that gives way to a ton of spice. Good balance between richness and acidity. The wine is elegant and well constructed. Saline finish on wet stone but I found the length a little short considering the promising whole and the market value to acquire it.

Excellent but not worth following the soaring prices.

Explosive nose of currant and raspberry.

Palate of extreme sapidity. First there is a discreet effervescence, a great freshness, then a ripe red fruit on the raspberry coulis and redcurrant. Attention the bottle empties very quickly with a perfect balance and a beautiful maturity. Saline and comfortable finish over a good length.

For 35/40€ we have a rosé that can fit many prestigious cuvées and that offers great pleasure.

On the nose, the fruit is dazzling for a 22-year-old wine, with red fruits, raspberry and strawberry.

The wine is wonderfully fresh on the palate. Freshly harvested raspberry sensation. The style is resolutely feminine, it is very fine and delicate, with a first quality juice to which a beautiful perfectly integrated acidity responds. It's balanced and clear. Nice menthol finish that goes on all in length.

Excellent, but I was expecting a little more complexity.

Nose of plum, undergrowth and smoke.

The mouth remains young, with a lot of freshness and length with this triptych spotted on the nose which is found in the mouth with a dense juice: plum, undergrowth and smoke. The wine has gained in finesse compared to the younger Montepulciano. Nice peppery finish that can resemble a Brunello.

Floral and chalky nose.

Very precise palate, laser cut, with notes of jasmine and white fruits. Citrus fruits develop immediately after in the second curtain with a chalk that will gain in scale. The juice is massive but very fresh and precise. Nice saline and chalky finish.

Dsg 04/2014

Very spicy nose with hazelnut.

The palate restores the year to perfection: the juice is warm, ample and sunny. We have this peppermint in the background, with cinnamon, a lot of vinosity which is surprising for a Blanc de Blancs, and of course this characteristic oxidation that the estate masters so well. Admittedly evolved, this champagne is nonetheless at the beginning of its life. The balance is perfect with a diffuse acidity which gives enough spring to the wine to propel itself and not to hover in a somewhat clumsy way like a lot of 2003. Great finish combining freshness with an effervescence which animates the taste buds and the curry soft on a dantesque length.

Great champagne which brilliantly recreates this very special year in the region

dsg 03/2021. Pinot noir solera started in 2013.

Very nice nose on apple and cinnamon. Mouth of the same ilk with a beautiful freshness, great finesse to the touch, vinosity and fine effervescence. Apple cinnamon largely dominates on a good balance with a vinous finish that deserves more length to pass a course.

Very well, Adrien Renoir is a winemaker to follow.

Delicious nose of Japanese green tea and sea spray.

The mouth offers a magnificent touch, almost velvety like a Meursault can be, then we have all the freshness that comes in the background, a real sea breeze. The wine is saline and layered. The balance is masterful, it is dense and fresh at the same time, a natural presence emerges from the wine, very difficult to describe. Then we have a finely herbaceous side to open on a magnificent finish where the apricot dominates over a long length.

Great Silex.

Incredibly rich nose of lemongrass, pencil lead and black fruits.

The mouth is still very young and of a magnificent freshness. This is all the more remarkable as the juice has an enormous density. The touch is textured, very noble and silky. The wine glides like velvet. It is layered with that dominant lemongrass, something I haven't noticed on any of the Penfolds I've tasted so far. The eucalyptus side in particular is absent. Then came the graphite, then the cherry and the plum which intertwine in this wine which ultimately turns out to be more fine than concentrated. Magnificent spicy finish that sparkles on the tongue to coat the throat for long minutes.

Great Penfolds.

Nose of citrus fruits and chalk. It's very pure.

The mouth is of the same ilk. Purity is the key word. Despite the raw nature, it is surprisingly supple and talkative. Flavors of citrus fruits and tangerine mingle with the chalk, the juice is superb as it is pure. Excellent balance. Saline finish that stretches over a long length.

Nose of tropical fruits and candied apricot.

Mouth with a delicious touch, very nice texture, extreme freshness. Beautiful floral flavors mingle with the wet stone. Perfect balance between dense juice, sweetness of sugar and acidity. The fruit is still bright in the second half of the mouth, which revives the wine to propel a honeyed and saline finish at the same time. Too bad the length is a bit short.

Nose of gunflint and tropical fruits. It's very exuberant.

Dense and viscous on the palate but still very fresh. It is rich, buttery and ripe at the same time, while being very flexible. The juice is of enormous concentration, but it loosens up perfectly, with flavors of ripe tropical fruits. Nice toasted finish on the nuts on a good length.

Very elegant nose of lemon, apple and buttercream

The mouth is energetic. We immediately notice the great vintage that is 2008 in Champagne. The effervescence is fine, just like the autolysis that accompanies it. The wine is carried by both a good acidity and a high quality juice on vinous flavors, with pear and brioche in the second part. Champagne as sapid as it is elegant, with a vanilla finish that we would have liked a little longer to complete the picture.

Great champagne.

“one of the finest spanish white ever”

21 years of aging in barrels preceded by 5 years in concrete tanks.

The result? An oxidized burgundy with added spices. Little background and an acidity that descales the teeth.

Given the price, a wine to forget very quickly. A Meursault village from a good producer gives much more pleasure.

Nose of herbal tea, honey and white flowers.

Magnificent palate of purity. It is still very young, on the peach and the white flower which dominates the wine. The juice is crystalline, nevertheless the wine is not to force its presence, everything is there, starting with a great laser-cut acidity in the service of an excellent balance. The wine still seems very young, with a chalk that invades the second half of the mouth. Beautiful diaphanous finish, still a bit compact.

Very nice wine, but we feel that it can be improved.

Intense nose of crushed strawberries.

Deeply complex palate with a silky touch. The juice is dense but the whole is very soft, the wine loosens up in layers to display its complexity: smoke, cocoa, strawberry, sweet spices... The style is very Burgundian, only the fine smoke characteristic of the riserva makes us start on Italy and this side of exotic spices which will develop more and more. Flawless balance, the acidity carries the wine and stretches it without losing intensity. Great oily and balsamic finish that goes on forever.

Magnum. Blend 2004-2002-1999 predominantly chardonnay as always.

Nose of crème brûlée and pear.

The mouth develops a beautiful complexity. The patina of time does its work. Chardonnay remains dominant with its saline and chalky notes. The juice has a beautiful structure served by an excellent balance, followed by the grilled hazelnut, the toasted being more pronounced than with the other Iterations, and the candied pear to finish. Very nice finish all in delicacy on a saline length.

Magnum. Blend 2006-2004-2002 with a majority of chardonnay.

Nose of jasmine and nuts.

Mouth of great serenity, palpable evolution with a rich and assertive aroma. We gently switch to more evolved aromas such as hazelnut and always this fragrant jasmine. It is creamy and structured with a vinosity which tends to assert itself with time where the chardonnay dominates the first years. Perfect balance, quiet strength. Magnificent finish that coats the palate with hazelnut over a long length.

Drank the first time a year ago, I have the memory of a very well made champagne, of quality but of a very consensual style.

A year later, the style asserts itself. The nose is buttery and floral on jasmine.

The mouth has become creamy, the depth amazes me, the champagne has become more voluble with a silky texture. The pastry aromas dominate and the finish, all in freshness, is beautiful.

Nice evolution for this Iteration which is only at the beginning of its life.

Blend 2008-2007-2006 with a majority of 2008. 12 years of ageing.

Citrus nose.

In the mouth, there is a lot of energy. The depth of 2008 is striking. Dosed at 7g, this gives comfort to the wine because the acidity is still quite high, especially with the dominant chardonnay. The wine is structured, it becomes floral with aeration even if the citrus fruits clearly dominate. 2007 and 2006 bring a little roundness to the fiery 2008 which will survive the years. Great balance, ample finish with great length. Discreet effervescence.

A wine built to be great but which will take time to reveal its full potential.

Nose of tobacco and black fruit.

A disconcertingly fresh palate for a Montepulciano. We are far from the model of rustic Montepulciano which smells of sweat. Here the acidity serves the wine to make it tender and give a nice balance with finesse on a bright and pure fruit. Finish still tannic and good length.

Nose of rose and spices.

On the palate, it is the archetype of Barolo: dense, spicy, but very fresh thanks to a good balance. This elegant and above all structured, black fruit on blackberry berries, then spice and finally a very stony side. The finish is still narrow because of its youth, but the length, floral, is already very good.

A good Barolo which will gain in serenity with age.
