The IWC review is spot on. While plesant it does not merit the price.

8/9/14, 6:07 PM - Medium ruby. Muted aromas of currant, chocolate and cola. Herbal, midweight with a touch of spicy acidity. Tannins are dry.

I search and search for the right words to describe what I get on the nose of this style Gigondas, but I struggle. What washes over my olfactory is something I connotate as "pitchy" or "tarry", but that's not what it smells like at all, just what my mental pallette gives me to work with. Dark, thick, baked bread, root beer. And it plays like that on the tongue, as well, but add some sweetness, blueberry juice, fresh paint (not that I've tried it since kindergarten). I personally love it. It's robust.

This wine is starting to hit it's stride.

I get that on some Rhone's (and some other red's) from time to time.
