This wine was incredibly smooth with an excellent balance of acid, fruit, and terrior. It's evident that Duval really knows the Syrah grape and makes outstanding wines. Single splash decant and poured back into the bottle. Didn't need air but still evolved over the hour it was shared.

Received as a gift long ago and almost forgot it was in the cellar. Not a bad little Bordeaux blend. It’s held up well with the bottle age. A bit heavy on the wood, but not objectionable.

This wine is really singing now. The brashness of its youth is gone and is replaced by a still flavorful dark brooding smoothness that is silky and round. Really paired well with Easter dinner of spiral ham and other sweet side dishes.

Huge wine with still strong tannic structure and quite a bit of oak. Secondary characteristics still a bit hidden, but I wanted to try this a little early. I'll give my other two another year or so to see where they go.

My contribution at a Cab Franc Wine Party. Came in second to a LaJota from Howell Mountain. Great nose with typical profile for the variety. Lovely color, and weight.

Better than my original rating by at least a point. This was wine of the night against a Bordeaux, Jarvis Merlot, and a Hall Howell Mountain. Wonderful mountain fruit expression of Merlot.

Brought by a friend to a small group dinner. Should have decanted it in advance, but time did not allow. It's a fantastic blend that showed depth and complexity even in its relative youth from a powerful vintage. A bit out of my normal budget, but I can see why those with the means buy it.

I decanted through aerator about two hours before consuming with prime aged fillet, roasted vegetables, and au gratin potatoes. A lovely Merlot based Super Tuscan that reminded me more of Bordeaux than Tuscany. Was an excellent pairing with the meal and was enjoyed by all.

I decanted through aerator about two hours before consuming with prime aged fillet, roasted vegetables, and au gratin potatoes. Was rewarded with an excellent example of a fine Napa Cabernet. It was very well balanced and paired perfectly with the meal. Not a bargain at $100, but a decent value compared to other high end wines from the region.

If you open now, I suggest a 30 minute decant. Initial nose and finish had some brett/petrol notes. Not off-putting, but once it blew off the wine was fantastic. It continued to gain nuance as it opened in the glass. Served pre-meal and it was enjoyed by all.

Crowd pleaser for sure. A bit on the more fruit forward side, but quite enjoyable with pre-meal appetizers. Prefer the regular brut for most occasions.

Oldest of the 05, 06, & 07 opened tonight and served with prime tenderloin roast. A bit over balanced in oak, but still had plenty of fruit with medium acidity and a medium finish. An excellent vertical which was well worth the wait.

Best of the three 05, 06, & 07. Perfectly balanced on PnP. Excellent acidity and fruit with the oak integrated well. Really liked this wine and I'm glad I saved it for so long.

Drank together with the 2005 and 2007. Was #3 of the group and took about 30-45 minutes to blow off a slight funk that could have been cork, but wasn't objectionable.

Prime drinking window. Silky tannins, cassis, and classic Rutheford dust. Exemplary example of the AVA. Wish I had more in this or larger format.

If you're a fan of Sean's wines, you will love this. If you're a Parker palate friend, you might go meh, as this isn't a fruit bomb. It does show excellent black and blue fruit with a touch of cassis and hint of Sean's eucalyptus flair found in the Orion. This is the first of six bottles that I purchased and I'm looking forward to seeing how this ages. It certainly has the bones to improve.

Outstanding expression of Napa Valley Cab. Not of the singular vineyard variety, but more of a "best of everything" from the valley floor. Excellent balance, weight, and finish. Great QPR if you can find it under $100 like I did.

Seriously powerful and deep wine. Gave it about 30 minutes opened before tasting and consumed over the next 90 minutes. Will clearly evolve with more time in the bottle and has the legs to last, but very enjoyable now.

Benefits with an hour or so decant. Fruit forward and powerful and probably best with a hearty meal, but was lovely on it's own as well. Ample black fruits with a medium long finish.

Was very fortunate to experience a vertical tasting of Onyx with the winemaker Keith Pilgrim. We tasted through 99, 01, 05, 07, 10, and the current release. The '99 was still quite lovely and probably is at it peak. My favorite was probably the '05, which was complex with a wonderfully long finish. These aren't in your face style wines, but much more European in profile. Quite a special experience.

Excellent change-up here with the Cab Franc majority. Drinking very well now, but should have many years of life left. Very balanced from the new French Oak and Spring Mountain fruit. First bottle of several in the cellar. Will be fun to taste this through it's lifetime. 46% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot.

Although the bottle has some 11 year of age on it, it still needs a good decant to bring out all the complexity. A nice vegetal nose and most of the fruit was hidden until it evolved with air. A very nice treatment of the spring mountain AVA.
