A long time favorite and Sonoma benchmark for Cabernet in my opinion. Surpasses the Napa version with a fine balance of fruit, oak and terroir. Both a crowd pleaser as well a something for the more serious connoisseur. Drink now as I don't see this getting any better. 2027 is far too long to hold this vintage.

This wine is just now starting to show secondary and tertiary elements. The fruit has integrated well and the nose is starting to show some earthiness. I have a couple more of these that I'll give another year, but I think the 2022 window end is probably fairly accurate. Love this wine and producer. Will be interesting to see how the new French owners treat the product. I have several more recent years in my vertical.

Yet another fantastic single vineyard Pinot from WS. Strawberry and red fruit notes with supple minerality and earthiness. Still enough acid to make your mouth water and go well with cheese and light summer sausage.

Juicy with primary red berries and still grippy tannins. Certainly drinkable now, but could age 5+ years easily. An excellent example of Merlot done right from Napa.

Opened at 1:30pm then decanted at 3:00 for a party in the evening. A simply stunning wine. Lush, palette coating mouthfeel with tons of dark berries and a touch of mocha. Long finish with supple tannins and plenty of acidity to age for a decade or more. First of three I bought and will hold the others for more special occasions. Highly recommend.

Still needs considerable air if opening now. Big wine with grippy bun not objectionable tannin. Medium to long finish shows the Oakville AVA well. Will hold my remaining two bottles one to two more years.

No need to rerate. This wine is excellent and drinking really well now. Integrated and silky. Love this vintage.

I have been waiting on this one for quite a while now and it's really paid off. The tannins have softened and the fruit calmed down into a nicely balanced blend. On night one it was quite lovely with dark red fruit and medium acidity. Supple mouthfeel on pop-n-pour. Will update on day 2 if necessary.

Gorgeous representation of a Walla Walla Syrah. I tasted this at the winery just after release and it didn’t disappoint tonight. Plush mid pallet with mid length finish. Winner of the night vs a 2011 Cayuse Bionic Frog and 2013 Long Shadows Sequel.

Much maligned, the 2011 vintage in California has some gems. This is one of them. Much like a right bank Bordeaux, but with Cabernet traits. Supple, soft, and elegant. Very pleasurable.

Enjoyed with some spicy Thai food at a local BYOB restaurant. Bright acidity with just enough fruit. Not bone dry, but certainly no discernible residual sugar. Great for a warm summer evening.

Sparkling fresh red fruits for an 8 year old California Pinot. Drinking just perfectly right now. Maybe a year or two left, but still has bright acidity and a medium finish with fully integrated alcohol and oak. Lovely wine.

Another solid Tapestry comparable to the 2012 vintage. Red fruits, pencil shavings, medium oak, with a medium to short finish. Always a fan favorite. Raised a point to 92 on second night. Pumped air and put back in the cellar at 58 degrees F overnight. Night two was excellent. The wine just seemed to come all together and drank beautifully. Would suggest holding one to two years in the bottle of decant for a few hour if you want to drink now.

Huge mocha and dark chocolate nose and pallet. Incredibly smooth and integrated. Drinking perfectly right now. Glad I was able to purchase it at the winery from their library this year.

The 24th edition of Pleiades is unique but unmistakable as a member of the family. Bright red fruits and a soft supple palette with medium acidity. The finish is medium long and satisfying.

I’m pleasantly surprised that this Malbec is more French-like over the typical Catena offering from Argentina. Showed significant oak early, but mellows dramatically in just a few minutes in the glass. Doesn’t show the chalk common to the variety. Solid QRP at $33.

A very interesting Chardonnay completely different from the typical butter bomb oak limb wines so typical of Napa/Sonoma. Bright acidity with round but not malolactic driven mouthfeel. Lovely wine in my humble opinion.

Pretty much a pop-n-pour at a BYOB Italian restaurant. Could have used a good hour decant as by the end of the meal it’s opening up quite nicely. Red fruits on the nose and palete. The tannins are starting to soften, but still have a bit of an edge. Mouthfeel is supple in the mid palete as expected with 100% Merlot but not flabby at all. A fine expression of California Merlot.

A bit fruit forward, but a definite crowd pleaser with some tannin structure. Could use a decent decant or another year in the bottle to let that fruit calm down a little. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Canard Tasting @ Buon Vino, Plano, TX - This is not your grandfather's Zinfandel. Sourced from some of the oldest Zinfandel vines in the Napa Valley which are 125 years old and dry farmed to produce a scant 1/2 to 1 ton per acre, this is a superb example of the variety. Just the opposite of the typical fleshy juice bombs that we often see in the jug version of this grape, this wine is structured with layers of complexity that should continue to evolve or what could be a 15-20 year life. For me it was the class wine of the tasting with seven other offerings from the vintner. Perhaps a small bit of sticker shock at nearly $100 a bottle, but if you appreciate fine Zinfandel, this may be just worth it.

Canard Tasting @ Buon Vino, Plano, TX - Tasted through 8 of the Canard portfolio including all three blends in 2014 vintage. The Throwback is a primarily Cabernet Sauvignon blend with small amounts of Merlot and Cab Franc. Good structure and basically a very nice reminiscent of the 1990's Napa Cabernets (pre-Parker). I was reminded of your basic BV offering from that time period with restrained oak (not a bomb of any style). Was offered in a three pack for under $50 which is a nice QPR. Pretty nose with dark fruit dominant. Could benefit from 2-5 more years in the bottle but drinking nicely today.

Canard Tasting @ Buon Vino, Plano, TX - Tasted through 8 of the Canard portfolio including all three blends in 2014 vintage. Was offered in a three pack for under $50 which is a nice QPR. Pleasant nose with red fruit dominant. Could benefit from 2-5 more years in the bottle but drinking nicely today.

This wine was incredibly smooth with an excellent balance of acid, fruit, and terrior. It's evident that Duval really knows the Syrah grape and makes outstanding wines. Single splash decant and poured back into the bottle. Didn't need air but still evolved over the hour it was shared.

Received as a gift long ago and almost forgot it was in the cellar. Not a bad little Bordeaux blend. It’s held up well with the bottle age. A bit heavy on the wood, but not objectionable.

This wine is really singing now. The brashness of its youth is gone and is replaced by a still flavorful dark brooding smoothness that is silky and round. Really paired well with Easter dinner of spiral ham and other sweet side dishes.

Huge wine with still strong tannic structure and quite a bit of oak. Secondary characteristics still a bit hidden, but I wanted to try this a little early. I'll give my other two another year or so to see where they go.

Brought by a friend to a small group dinner. Should have decanted it in advance, but time did not allow. It's a fantastic blend that showed depth and complexity even in its relative youth from a powerful vintage. A bit out of my normal budget, but I can see why those with the means buy it.

I decanted through aerator about two hours before consuming with prime aged fillet, roasted vegetables, and au gratin potatoes. A lovely Merlot based Super Tuscan that reminded me more of Bordeaux than Tuscany. Was an excellent pairing with the meal and was enjoyed by all.

I decanted through aerator about two hours before consuming with prime aged fillet, roasted vegetables, and au gratin potatoes. Was rewarded with an excellent example of a fine Napa Cabernet. It was very well balanced and paired perfectly with the meal. Not a bargain at $100, but a decent value compared to other high end wines from the region.

If you open now, I suggest a 30 minute decant. Initial nose and finish had some brett/petrol notes. Not off-putting, but once it blew off the wine was fantastic. It continued to gain nuance as it opened in the glass. Served pre-meal and it was enjoyed by all.

Crowd pleaser for sure. A bit on the more fruit forward side, but quite enjoyable with pre-meal appetizers. Prefer the regular brut for most occasions.

If you're a fan of Sean's wines, you will love this. If you're a Parker palate friend, you might go meh, as this isn't a fruit bomb. It does show excellent black and blue fruit with a touch of cassis and hint of Sean's eucalyptus flair found in the Orion. This is the first of six bottles that I purchased and I'm looking forward to seeing how this ages. It certainly has the bones to improve.

Outstanding expression of Napa Valley Cab. Not of the singular vineyard variety, but more of a "best of everything" from the valley floor. Excellent balance, weight, and finish. Great QPR if you can find it under $100 like I did.

Seriously powerful and deep wine. Gave it about 30 minutes opened before tasting and consumed over the next 90 minutes. Will clearly evolve with more time in the bottle and has the legs to last, but very enjoyable now.
