Hard to imagine tasting this and not knowing it’s Northern Rhône Syrah. Except for a lack of bacon, all the typical flavors are there, framed by bright acidity. I could carp about a lack of dimension but it was drinking so nicely, why bother.

1989 Château Troplong Mondot St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
'00 Mikulski Meursault 1er / '89 Troplong (One10): Well this was a surprise! Past experience with this estate had me decidedly in the "not my style" camp. This 89 though was more restrained and had much better balance. Still there is ripeness, richness and extraction. It seemed like Jekyl & Hyde sharing this wine rather than trading off. That dichotomy made it a bit strange at times. But overall, an enjoyable and impressive wine.
White
'00 Mikulski Meursault 1er / '89 Troplong (One10): A nose of butter and minerals. The minerals are evident on the palate as well, and along with fresh acidity, they beautifully balance the rich, only slightly mature flavors. A glorious bottle of Meursault!
Red
2018 Montefioralle Chianti Classico Riserva Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese (view label images)
Such a deep, rich nose. It’s dark and intense with lots of umami flavor. More about structure right now. The tannins are drying and the fruit is muted. It presents all the requisite features of an outstanding Riserva that will evolve for decades.
Red
2019 Montefioralle Chianti Classico Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese (view label images)
A fabulous Sangio nose roars immediately from the glass. The reddish fruit is bright, fleshy and quite lively. The smooth tannins on the finish are a reminder of its youth. This is a terrific Chianti Classico in the offing.
Red
A nice young Volnay that unsurprisingly offers ripe but slightly roasted flavors - compliments of the vintage.
Red
Needing a day or 2 after opening to overcome a jarring acidity. It eventually found its way to being a nice interesting Garnacha.
Red
2000 Château Calon-Ségur St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Seems to be on good path but this is no where near ready. Tight and tannic (admittedly it got little air time). The fruit is fresh and vibrant.
Red
Was it real? Extraordinarily healthy cork, deep, rich color and seemingly primary and vibrant fruit. The only indication of 37 years is that it is free of tannins. Delicious, if not all that interesting but mostly just curious.
White
My last bottle and it was good but not great. Brighter and livelier than prior ones but really, too much so. The acidity stuck out and threw the wine out of balance. Pleasurable all the same if not complex or noteworthy.
Red
First one in a few years and it seems to be in a bit of adolescent funk. Still very good but more about structure than the gorgeous, fetching fruit in its earlier days. Tannins are smooth but persistent.
White - Sparkling
Drinking very nicely. Yeasty, with a trace of oxidation. Interesting and tasty.
Red
An excellent, midlife Barolo that has depth, balance and flavor. Not sure when Scavino eschewed their modernist practices but this tasted rather traditional. Very good.
Red
Brilliant nose! It's firm and structured but silky from some yet to be integrated oak. It drinks youthfully but some maturing flavors are emerging. Fine presence and depth. There's quite a bit going on and even the sediment is delicious. I'd wait 5 more years to try again.
White
An outstanding young Chablis that will improve and integrate with time.
Red
An enjoyable, quality bottle that is mostly resolved. This must have experienced lots of new oak because it remains too lush and plush
Red
Either the winemaking was restrained or time has taken its course. Fully resolved and displaying mostly tertiary flavors, the wine is well balanced and quite good, despite lacking in complexity.
Red
The nose of this Sangiovese is incredibly intense and interesting. The wine has excellent depth and character. Pop-n-pour likely diminished its impression. Highly impressive.
White
This Condrieu still seems to be on the ascent. Punchy, spicy and vibrant fruit is framed by medium body. Delightful and impressive.

From poor storage, remarkably fresh. But this is an odd bottle. A medicinal note is accentuated by shrill acidity.
Red
Mature, deeply earthy. An easy wine to enjoy even if rather simple.

Seems like there’s lots of love for this wine so maybe I had a substandard bottle. There was an impression that it was going to be good but ultimately, it was plodding and shallow.
Red
2006 Château Léoville Barton St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
A really fine, young Saint Julien. Tannic and structured but the fruit is energized and delicious. Very classical and seems poised to be terrific.

Goodbye enduring fruit. Nice mature flavors. It persistently gave the impression that it was going to be great but settled for very good. Just missing enough lift, energy and finish.
Red
A stellar young Burgundy. Amazed how well it is drinking. Poppingly bright, pure fruit. Nice structure. Hard to perceive the tannins.
Red
A good wine that has matured fully and nicely. It lacks some critical balance due to the hallmark acidity of this vintage. The fruit retains freshness and is quite pure.

1998 Domaine de Trévallon Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône Syrah Blend, Syrah (view label images)
An excellent bottle. Earthy with just enough enduring fruit. It remains impressively structured despite mostly resolved tannins. It has ample energy and verve, which enabled it to pair well with a variety of dishes.

2015 Château Carbonnieux Blanc Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend (view label images)
Despite an odd and not always attractive nose, it was delicious and pinpoint Bordeaux Blanc.

A curious encounter. It clearly was advanced and oxidized but certainly not shot. It had a haunting and intriguing quality. With air it brightened…a bit. Overall, positive.
Red
A structured Pinot that at times put me in mind of Cabernet. There was a touch of alcoholic heat and the fruit is demure but it’s a well-crafted, serious and sophisticated wine that perhaps suffered from pairing with dim sum.
White
Crisp, with good body. Textbook Bourgogne Blanc from a fine vintage.
White - Off-dry
Considerably better than the bottle 4 years ago. It was similarly lower in acidity than I would have liked, but it was better balanced and less flabby. It also was delicious and paired nicely with dim sum.
Red
Structured but with smooth and gentle tannins and the lovely fruit makes drinking this now, pleasurable. Still, it could use some maturing, even in this lighter vintage. Nice.
Red
The fruit is youthful, bright and exuberant. The structure and very smooth tannins frame it beautifully. Surprising to find a seven year old 1er Cru that is so open, inviting and delicious, yet with so much seemingly in reserve.
Red
A wonderfully pure and expressive Vino Nobile that paired beautifully with balsamic glazed Tuscan Kurobuta spare ribs. The tannins are resolved but I sense that has more years of evolution ahead based on the fruit and the acidity.
Red
Despite having plenty left in the tank, this Cornas is drinking very well. Pichon has a knack for wedding their finessed style to a core of pure, rustic, burly Cornas.
White - Sparkling
Very nice fruit, just a touch of yeast. Eminently sippable. If I wanted to introduce a neophyte to good, textbook Champagne, this would be a leading candidate.
White - Off-dry
My lone bottle and I can’t imagine having opened it at a better time. Great body and spot-on fall fruit flavors that are as wide as they are deep. Superb.
Rosé
It’s almost scary how good this is. Too much pure fruit and precision than one can possibly expect in such a modestly priced wine. Delicious Rosé
Red
A good Rioja, but just that. I yearned for more freshness and intrigue but it was balanced, flavorful and seemingly fully resolved. Rather too easy to drink for this level.
Red
Five years since I last had this and it continues to impress. This wine seems primed for the long-haul as it remains fresh, vibrant and well-structured.
White
Surprisingly fresher from the get-go than my last bottle more than 4 years ago. Yet this one seemed less complex. Still excellent and incredibly food-versatile.
White
Was rather tight. Seems like an excellent wine in need of time and capable of aging admirably.
Red
Really stood out in an impressive and crowded field. Flavors are mid-maturity and quite deep. Incredibly tasty even if the smooth tannins clamp down considerably on the finish.
White
After a long night of too much food and wine, this really perked things up. Gorgeous floral and fruit nose. The complex hydrocarbon flavor already is evident.
White - Sweet/Dessert
A really nice bottle of delicious Vin Santo. Lovely nose. Could’ve sipped this all night
Red
Maybe the best of the batch thus far. A good deal more brett but it contributed to the noteworthy character. Shows the polish of this cuvée and might still have room for more integration.
Red
About a year since the last bottle. It’s progressing very nicely. The fruit has demurred a bit but it’s still fresh and vibrant. Gentle but apparent tannins suggest this is built to last a while.
White - Sparkling
Loving this wine! Fine depth, great balance and plenty of intrigue. Delicious!
