Brick color. A beautiful, intoxicating nose of roses, cherry, some cigar. But tough as nails tannins. After three hours of air, only tighter! Very dry and chewy. I would give this 4-5 more years.

Still youthful. Gorgeous nose, orange peel, caramel. Impressive depth and finish, with some earthy tones, soil, cigar box, black berry. No where near fading, but drinking great now.

On opening, great nose with orange peel, chocolate, some plum. Silky tannins. The nose became a bit muted after a few hours in decanter, but great acidity and structure

Soft fruit, pretty nose. Some stewed prune/raisin. This is perhaps a little beyond it's peak. This is a Barolo where the normale bottling was better than this single vineyard

This wine is really at a great point. Right out of the bottle, showing some cassis, tobacco, licorice. Nice integration of acidity, very well balanced. Consumed over several hours with no evidence of fading.

I will refrain from rating the wine, as it simply a style preference I do not enjoy. It would be irresponsible of me to offer an 82 point rating because this wine is too flamboyant, fruit forward, overly extracted, and too "hot". What did I expect from a Barossa Shiraz only a few years old? My fault. It's just not my style, but I think most would love it. I can't see this pairing well with any dinner. Drink on its own while the grill is warming up. Serve something more restrained with your steak. Unless you want to bury your steak in jam.

At a nice spot right now. Some of the bold fruit has taken the back seat to secondary nuances of black pepper, Christmas spices, cinnamon. Nice acidity and well balanced.

Very new world. Pop and pour, ready to go. Some cherry, dark fruit. Heavy oak. Easy drink, crowd pleasing. Nothing that is distinctly "Italian".

Agree with other notes. Still young and tight with a good tannic grip. Some blackberry, coffee. I wish I left this decant for a few hours. The last dribble in the bottle was the best, with some good floral quality, softening of tannins into velvety silk. Leave next bottle for several more years.

Nose much more muted than other tasters experienced. Even over 6 hours decanted, it did not offer up the classic "barolo nose". Still, nice flavors with subtle tannins, good integration of acidity.

A decent CA based nebbiolo. Actually, the only CA nebbiolo I've ever had that was enjoyable. Had some tones of cherry, flowers, anise. Medium bodied. A little out of balance with some heat on the finish. I have no idea how this will age (and will never know, since it was my only bottle!), but I think it might be good for the next five years. Not one to hold onto for decades. For the price, very nice.

My first taste of the 2008 Loring Shea. Quite nice at this time. Although it's young (for my taste), it was well integrated. Light to medium bodied, some rhubarb, strawberry, raspberry, a touch of holiday spices. Good integration of acidity.

Expressive and rich fruit, with some cherry, clove. This bottle had quite a bit of heat that didn't integrate well. Even after several hours of decanting, a long hot finish that disappointed us relative to the last bottle we had 12 months ago.

Nice wine from Old Mission. Michigan wines are certainly leaping forward. This Pinot offered some young fruit up front with dark plum, cherry cola, and cocoa powder. The fruit was a little primary, and may have had a trace of residual sugar. Good acidity, however. I would like to see this lay down for a few years and see if the fruit integrates better. There is potential here.

Not as good as prior bottles. I'm guilty of mispairing this with the food that was served, which put the wine out of balance. Bracing crispness with palate cleansing bubbles. Really a summer fair or aperitivo.
