Monumental wine. Alas my last bottle. Incredible nose, but it’s the palate that blows you away. Great depth, complexity and a big lingering finish. Cant ask for anything more from a wine. Pity cant afford anymore!

Brought this bottle to a michelin starred restaurant in London, they broke the cork and half dropped back in the bottle, causing them to decant and filter (urgh!!) the wine. Dinner was protracted and the wine was served three hours later, warmer than ideal!

Nose was promising, red fruits, pencil shaving and hints of coffee/chocolate but the palate was underwhelming. It lack intensity and vibrancy. Not sure if it was because of the filter and decanting combination, or just a poor bottle (given cork condition). Luckily (or not) there are 11 bottles remaining from this parcel i bought at Christies

Wonderful nose of stone fruits, flowers and struck match. Palate explodes with tropical fruits and minerals, with superb persistence towards to long finish.

Opened two hours and decanted an hour before drinking. Beautiful nose of dark fruits and cedar. Linear and precise on the palate, albeit lacking some depth. Overshadowed by the Margaux 96 which developed better in glass. Nevertheless the Latour 95 was very enjoyable rather (than impressive)

This is from tasting note assistant, my first time using it:

The wine looks straw colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, grapefruit, apple, pear, almond and biscuity. It tastes like grapefruit, lemon, apple, toast, acacia, apple blossom, almond and biscuity. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

PNP. Lovely nose, lots of white fruits and hint of struck match. Very fresh on the palate, good acidity combines with excellent top notes of fruit and flowers. But lacks depth and quite a short finish. Still a nice wine for the price point

Opened 3 hours before drinking, not decanted. Hint of oxidation on this nose, this was confirmed on the palate. Wine lacked depth and had a plummy finish. After an hour in the glass, tea leaf notes dominated. Very different from first bottle from the same case. First time I have had bottle variation from this Chateau, anyone had similar experience?

PNP. Not as fresh or interesting as previous bottles from the same case. Somewhat flabby and bland. A disappointment and not representative. Unfortunately this is becoming a pattern for many Fontain Gagnard wines in my cellar

Decanted an hour before drinking. Still youthful without an amber rim. Expressive on the nose, black fruits, forest floor and some toast. Sweet entry on the palate with layers of flavours, some leather and spice on the finish. Feels like there is more to give. Maybe i should have waited longer before drinking. But its so easy and lovely to drink now, bottle was consumed between my wife and I within an hour over dinner. Fortunately I have 10 more bottles :)

PNP. Amber rim developing, nice ruby colour at its core. Red fruits in the nose with a little perfume, which was a nice surprise. Sweet entry, nice fruits, medium body and tannins were surprisingly soft. Wine gained some weight and depth in the glass. Good length on the finish. Exceeded expectation

Uncorked 3 hours before dinner, not decanted and drank over two hour korean bbq dinner. No sign of aging on the rim. Nose of classic dark fruits and cedar. Body started off medium and added weight progressively. Palate was exquisite and pure with increasing depth and complexity as dinner progressed. Tannins were noticeable but not aggressive. Very drinkable now, in hindsight I should have decanted. This wine feels at the very early stage of its drinking window with a long life ahead of it

Bought at HK auction, allowed it a week to rest before opening. Label fell off but cork was in superb condition. PNP. Still dark ruby colour, not much sign of age on the rim. Nose was immediately expressive of dark fruits, straw and peppery notes. Medium body on the palate with very deep and solid core of black fruits, chocolates, cedar and again that slight pepperiness in the finish. Very long, very enjoyable. Compared to Dominus (my favourite Napa) this wine is more hedonistic, more flamboyant, less precision and less complexity but just as enjoyable

Opened an hour before pouring. Drank over three hours. Limited expression on the nose. Palate initially deep dark fruits, a little plumminess which disappeared after some time in glass. Not the complexity and intensity I expected, quite one dimensional. Disappointing! First from a case of 12 so hopefully the others are better

PNP, very pale colour. Expressive nose of citrus and the classic PYCM struck match. Excellent attack on the palate, bursting with citrus, white fruits and melon. Explosive finish with notes of honey. Great length. This wine developed weight, intensity and complexity after an hour in the glass…… so let it breathe before you consume it all (like I did). Fabulous wine, worth the (stiff) price!

Opened magnum three hours before decanting. Drank an hour after decanting. Very expressive nose, dark fruits, cedar and spice notes. Palate failed to live up to promise, medium body, pleasant and correct but lacking in intensity and length. Improved with time but not massively. (Maybe overshadowed by DRC Echezeaux 2002 drank before it?)

Uncorked 2 hours before pouring (not decanted). Immediately expressive on the nose - fruit, spice and vanilla. On the palate, sweet dark fruits framed by coffee, chocolate and woody notes. After some time in glass, fruits give way to more spice, leather and a hint of leafiness. Good acidity throughout and good length on the finish. A wonderful drink enjoyed with chicken marsala

Dark ruby colour, no sign on aging on the rim yet. On the nosed, pronounced leafiness, though not unattractive. Good breadth and depth of flavours on the palate, leafiness carrying over and noticeable tannins on the finish. Lovely wine but i suspect needs more time. Bottle was opened at 3pm and poured at 8pm and drank over two hours. After an hour in the glass, leafiness was more muted and wine gained in weight and depth with smoky and earthy notes coming thru.

My favourite Lynch Bages. It didnt disappoint. PNP over three hours. The aromatics is unmatched, ripe, mature cabernet with tertiary spice, leather and chocolate - some animal musk as well. Loved it. The plate was deeper and more fruit driven than i remembered, beautifully balanced by acidity to keep the palate fresh. Tannins are smooth and muted. The long lingering finish was special.

Opened 1pm, decanted at 7pm and drank at9pm from Zalto glasses. I gave it this extended breathing after reading some of the tasting notes here (thank you!). Colour still primary, no evidence of aging. Wonderful and textured nose with layers of primary and secondary fruit, cedar also coming thru. Explosive on the palate but with great precision and depth. The flavours go on and on. Truly a great bottle and went very well with roast duck! Wine of the night, beating out the Mouton 82, Martray corton charlemagne 08 and P2 02

Opened at 3pm, decanted at 7 and drank 8 from Zalto glasses over one hour. Amber rim prominent. Was expressive on the nose but not as exuberant as previous bottles. Good depth and flavours on the palate with a long and pleasing finish. Not the WOW wine i remember, so a bit disappointing from that perspective. It was put in the shade by the Latour 90 that followed. Maybe i should not have decanted or breathed it for so long?

P&P, medium colour with slight amber rim forming. Dark fruits on the nose but palate was not balanced, more acidity than fruit. It improved after an hour but not to where I had expected. Previous experiences have been better so maybe just this bottle

Drank at friends 60th birthday. Level was into shoulder and cork dropped into bottle as i was screwing in the Durant. So i was expecting the worst. poured immediately and colour was light with amber rim, as expected for a sixty year old. The nose was delightful, still discernible fruits. On the palate, it was light to medium bodied, very smooth with good balance and complexity. But clearly on a very graceful decline. Enjoyable but this wine is past its prime and needs drinking up

I did not know what to expect given the mixed reviews on this wine but was pleasantly surprised. Opened two hours before consuming. Lovely nose signaled what was to come. Deep dark fruits with notes of tobacco, leather and chocolate on the palate. Lots of depth and persistence. Excellent showing and the wine was improving in the glass but alas, one bottle between five didnt give much opportunity for a longer examination. Fortunately i have many bottles so its going on the ‘drink now’ list

Drank from 375ml bottle, PnP. Immediately fragrant on the nose, the palate was deep and dark with good complexity. Fresh if short finish. Did not hold well in the glass, faded after 30 min - but given it was a half bottle, there was not much left after 30 min!

Gorgeous and long. drinking really well - perhaps not the precision of 1991 or 1994 but super enjoyable. Put Haut Brion 1998, drank side by side, in the shade!

This bottle of Pavie 2000 disappointed, nothing like the previous bottles of this wine that I had. Admittedly this bottle was opened because it was exposed to (tropical ) temperatures. There was clearly fresh seepage.

The nose was still impressive, lots of fruit and vanilla. However the palatte was very fruit driven, albeit layers of it. What I missed was the balancing acidity to give it freshness. the finish was long and slightly bitter at the end

Not the Pavie 2000 I remember - and maybe the temperature excursion and seepage has something to do with it. Need to check one of my other bottles to compare - hopefully they will be more like the other sumptious tasting notes in CT

One of my favourite wines, but this bottle was more reticent than prior ones. Nose was surprisingly muted but the palate did not disappoint. I did not decant but started tasting half an hour after opening and over the course of a slow dinner. It started to really improve after an hour and a half, so in hindsight maybe better to have decanted. At its peak, very generous black and fruits with lots of secondary flavours. a long and persistent finish, albeit with significant grip.

My expectation was not high given the reviews but this wine impressed. Started off with generous expression on the nose - ripe red fruits, forest floor, hint of peppers and smoke. The palate was initially light and fresh, without much depth - so i thought the reviews we on the mark. But as the night progressed, subsequent glasses gained weight, the acidity that was prominent in the first glass gave way to deep dark fruits, chocolate, coffee and leather notes. Finish was decent, not particularly long. A superb bottle from an average vintage. Loved it!

This is one of my favorite wines and I'm on my third case
This wine usually flies out of the gate with fireworks on the nose
But not this bottle, which started rather closed
But after an hour, it finally opened up with sweet ripe fruits on the nose, and a whiff of brett. On the palate it gives layers of ripe fruits, peppers, leather, spice. A wonderful wine with a long persistent finish

This wine needed time to open up. Initially quite light on the palate and a sweet but fresh finish. Easy drinking. Second pour showed a very different personality - more Barton. Black fruits with a tinge of smoke on the nose hint at whats to come. Body was distinctly fuller with markedly increase depth of flavours. Sweetness and freshness remained on finish. Looking forward to third and last pour!
