Darn good wine - not cheap at around 40, but the quality very much justifies its price tag. Drinking well now.

Delicious and smooth, and an interesting look at wine made from younger vines.

Very good and showing much improvement from the first bottle I tasted in 2019 that was quite disjointed. Fruit is in nice balance with eucalyptus notes. This wine is in a more elegant style than a comparable napa cab at this price point, but still with enough soft fruit to be approachable at this early stage in its life. Defiantly benefits from some air time. Happy to have a few more bottles to follow...

Another very nice bottle, sweet fruit, some slight menthol notes. The high alcohol didn't show at all this time. A pleasure to drink, more hedonistic than intellectual.

Singing right out of the bottle. Pure delineated fruit but balanced with acid and tannin

Shockingly vibrant fruit for its age and quite sweet. PnP and ready to go right out of the bottle. While the fruit and acid are present I don’t get a ton to tertiary flavors which is surprising given the age, a bit of menthol on the finish. I will see how this revolves with more air time..

Update: a few hours later, more heat on the finish. But a hint of sweet herbs, and a touch of tar/leather, sweetness still sticks out as a predominant note white cleansing acid. Good, fun, not sure if I would buy for over $100.

Excellent - sweet bright fruit but enough earthy elements and tannin to keep it in balance. Drinking very will right now straight out of the bottle but this held up over a few hours.

a complete wine, but a bit hot - became a bit disjointed over time, popped this right after ground delivery (2 hour drive away).

Had two bottles - very consistent, sweet dark fruit, black tea, a touch of smoke. As I have diversified my wine drinking to consume more leaner and more acid driven styles wines, Hidden Ridge has come across as much sweeter than I remember but the drying tannin on the finish at this stage somewhat counterbalances the sugar rush up front. I am worried that as the tannin fades, this may come across as a bit clunky or boring.

That said, the 2013 continues to deliver on its promise so far and is certainly a crowd please at this stage.

Very good - dense but not impenetrable. Decanted for hours but it could have used more time. Layers of fruit, earth, some mint - coats the whole pallet.

Never really got going - decanted and consumed over 6 hours. Tannin still present. Overall this felt disjointed and sharp with dull fruit and little complexity. Maybe a bad bottle?

Fantastic bottle - fruit is still energetic and crisp with layers of savory elements underneath - drank well over 4 hours. Love this style of wine, seemingly light in body, but but with loads of complexity and enough acid to be refreshing. 14.4% abv

Very good PNP - sweet blackberry fruit, but pleasantly in balance with black tea, dill, soil notes.

I do worry about longevity given the alcohol content, on day 2 the alch was much more noticeable and on day one we kept throwing this back in the fridge to keep the heat less noticeable. I am sure this has many more good years ahead, but not sure this is a 20 year wine. Can someone share examples of wines that drink well for 20-30 years that are over 15% alch?

Update: additional air and chilling this down a bit definitely helped... the alcohol became less noticeable and overall fruit seemed a bit more vibrant. I would not seek out again, but less of a disaster than originally thought.

3rd kistler Pinot in three weeks that massively underwhelmed - quite flat, one dimensional fruit with noticeable heat. I like Sonoma Pinot but maybe kistler isn’t my style or I am drinking them too old for my pallet.

Still damn good.... drank over 5 hours, improved with air. Smokey, tart fruit (cherry and pomegranate), a touch of leather but has room to mature further.

Really delicious now, but also very much in balance. I expect this could go at least another decade.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom with cassis and currants. Lifted pallet, preferred this a bit chilled (closer to 50). Give it an hour to breath.

I think this needs more time or more time in a decanter than I gave it. Decanted and consumed over 3 - 4 hours. Nose is very inviting but the palate still feels a bit disjointed.

Holding up but seems like it would pair much better with food. Still has some tannin and slightly angular fruit, just a bit thin. Not much in the way of tertiary development.

This bottle was very ripe / sweet and extremely smooth upon PNP it made me think of Caymus. I always found that there was enough balance from acid, earth/tea keep this from feeling over the top but this bottle is pushing it. That said, it held up way and on day 2 I found that the fruit moderated just a touch and tannin was a bit more noticeable. Maybe better on day 2.

Now 59.99 by the case via Wine Access - Very happy with this wine at that price.

Showing quite well now, lots of energy and with vibrant fruit right of the bottle...didn’t drop off with 3 hours additional air. Nice core of red fruit with some savory herbal elements. For my taste front end fruit and back end herb are in balance but I would worry that the finish could feel a bit medicinal if the fruit recedes further.

First bottle I have tried from this winery. I will look for more.

This wine is just delicious... my go to when I want to open a nice bottle of wine for a non-geek crowd. Continues to open up with time and I am sure this has many years to go. That said, this bottle drank reasonably well with a short decant.

Can be found now for under $80. While not a steal, it is an improvement from the $100 release price. My sense is that the 55% slope wine is made in large enough quantities that there will continue to be availability from time to time through Wine Access and other discount retailers for 20% below release price.

Another great bottle. The 2010 swan is my favorite Rhys so far -- layers of flavor while still light/elegant on the palate.

A very pretty wine, a bit sweeter and more fruit driven with some of the bloody/savory quality that I enjoy in other vintages dialed down a bit.

Birth year wine for my brother - I thought this was drinking very well, perhaps the fruit was a bit dried/raisiny compared to some of the younger bottles we popped, but that isn't a negative. Still alive and balanced and with enough fruit that even some of the non-wine geeks very much enjoyed it.

Excellent buy from K&L in the $30 range - a steal for mature cab of good quality. Defiantly some heavy and stale funk upon opening—blows off after two or so hours and this bottle became progressively more fresh and vibrant with time from there.

Dark fruit with dust/tobacco.

This bottle required significant air time to pull together (opened for 6 hours, then vacuum sealed overnight). It was far better on day 2 when the fruit finally started to come out. Initially I thought there may be too much structure for the fruit but patience was rewarded.

Some bottle variation here, but of the 4 bottles I have consumed over the last year, all have been good to very good.

Still alive and well, added weight over time as it breathed in the bottle. The nose showed more complexity (pencil, soy, blackberry) than the the palate which still had some tart fruit and acidity but was flat by comparison to the nose.

A wine everyone loves ... big flavors but not over the top, sweet fruit, with some graphite and tea earth the add complexity.

This is a wine I loved before really getting into wine and it's nice to have a good go to wine that the non-wine geeks in my life can really enjoy.

Wow... what a difference a two years makes. When I first sampled this upon release the fruit was completely buried beneath the structure ... this felt like a dark impenetrable wine.

Double decanted -- today the fruit is on top, but not particularly dense/concentrated, slight herbal undertones but none of the huge graphite notes of two years ago. Tasting a bit disjointed and sharp. This bottle is just okay, and for me not particularly special. Maybe the second half will be better after resting for day?

very balanced, elegant, with slightly rough tannin. I think this would benefit from further time in the bottle or a longer decant. Not a fruit bomb.
