Merlot in Chianti, a new innovation, especially from the Brolio parcels which is hilly, semi-clay soil, and lots of sunshine. Casalferro is 100% Merlot. Open for 1 hour to breathe. Ruby red rim. Nose notes of prunes, cherries, oak, hints of earth and musty forest floor. Balanced acid and tannin, dry fruity palate, pomegranate, light structured layer with easy approachable character. Medium finish with firm oaky tannin. I still think that the terroir may not bring out the best of its Merlot, thus the wine is tentatively bit of dry, less fruits and structures, though tannin is present. May keep for 5 years, probably improve.

Fruity attack on the palate, structured and balanced tannin, albeit a young personality, acid and alcohol complementing each other and essential for it's fruit structures, sweet spicy medium finish still continuing its layers of flavours on the way down. 剛開瓶的時候, 氣息開始展現出森林氣味和濕模具。 但很快消散,其次是甜花香調的覆盆子, 成熟李子, 煙, 香料, 蘑菇。 咖啡以及巧克力, 單寧緊質感腭, 但卻隨著時間的消失, 其中酒酸一直存在。水果結構初不願呈現, 羞澀. 中幹後段。希望好幾年應改善結構與軟化單寧.

I tends to put away wines from countries with arid climate for longer period hoping for tannin to soften. One drawback is that it is difficult to strike a balance between fading fruits contents and tannin mellowing.
Decanted for 2 hours for this bottle, notes of vanilla, cranberry, plum, mould, nail polish. Less fruits than I expect for a malbec, tannin mellowed, fruits I think is sacrificed. Short finish.

Quite closed and shy, decanted for 2 long hours and just because of its age and long slumber in the cellar. Little sediment. Ruby red rim. Little fruits notes, warm alcohol. Tannin prominent on first encounter on the palate, though mellow over time with airing. Cranberry, sour plums, gooseberry come to mind. Short finish. I am leaving it longer until next day, watch the space.

Not as good as 1993, I think. Strong stench of wet mould, vanilla, nail polish. Decanted as well for 3 hours. The stench dissipates to large extent, leaving strawberry, vanilla, smoke, oats. More simplistic fruits layer compared to 1993 on the palate. Tannin soften a great deal than I remembered earlier bottle. Medium dry finish

Drunk at PortHouse for lunch. This is a surprise, my impression of most Spanish wines from the central region are pretty tannic and acidic, and do require a trained palate. Native grape is Graciano. Deep ruby red rim. Sediment at the cork. Explosive floral notes of cassis, blackberries, currants, toasted oak, earth, and minerals. Silky textured fruits-filled palate, forward, tannin and acid in perfect tuning to the bouquet, non-pretentious, and good durable finish. Ready now, but could keep for a good 5 years. A5P5C4

I remember when I started learning about wine, this was my first bottle in my collection. My palate was still novice at the time, and thought that this was great for the price and quality. Open the last second bottle, ruby red, notes of cherry, green herbs, gooseberries, pungent overtone. The overtone dissipated, leaving a dryish lingering textures of simple green gooseberries, tannin still prominent as I had remembered it, dry acidy finish. Well, I think I open the last bottle in 5 years time, waiting for the tannin to soften.
