Drank with my beautiful bride to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Brought up from the 58 degree cellar, opened and tasted and then decanted for over an hour and a half. It was OK, but not spectacular. Medium weight and color, better suited for pork than the rib eye from the grill. Actually was wondering if I had decanted too long. Then took outside with dinner to enjoy into cooler night air and as temp dropped slightly, the wine came alive. Roasted meat and mid-palate depth unfolded, the nose opened and the wine began showing its full potential. Lesson learned with vintage wine, open, try, be patient, change temp settings and find optimal time to enjoy. This wine waited 25 years to be opened. We can't always be in a rush to drink in an hour or two. Patience will be rewarded. In both relationships and wine:)

Tasting more like a Paso Cab. Soft blackberry fruit with balanced acidity and soft, but lengthy finish.

Classic blueberry fruit with nice acidity and finish. Balanced and capable of cellaring for 3 - 5 more years, but very enjoyable right now.

Nicely balanced nose and texture. Brioche on the palate and long finish. This is drinking well above its price point.

Spicy complexity. Needed two hours to open and settle into its profile. Initial reduction on nose which changed within 30 minutes and grew in complexity over two hours. Black pepper fruit, very balanced acidity and plush tannins.

Showing very well for a Barbera. Earthy fruit, good acidity and smooth tannins. Very full-bodied. Lots of sediment in bottle.

1994 Meerlust Rubicon Stellenbosch Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Well-cellared, balanced nose and rich texture on the palate. Old spice quality, nuanced structure and full bordeaux-style flavor. Definitely worth holding on to a few more bottles for future tastings.

Bright black cherry fruit on nose. Intense aroma, good acidity and earthy quality on mid-palate. Balanced tannins and a long finish attest to staying power and cellar-worthy quality of this wine. Will continue to improve for 5 - 6 years.

2009 Dutton-Goldfield Pinot Noir Fox Den Green Valley of Russian River Valley (view label images)
Beautiful, intense nose with bright bing cherry fruit on initial taste and an ascending mid-palate acidity and finish. Very balanced with a pronounced fruit-forward profile. Great finesse and intense experience. Can cellar for many years to come.

Very balanced. Black fruit, slightly peppery - less than other Zinfandels. Smooth tannins, good acidity and fruit. A sophisticated Zin.

1982 Château La Gaffelière St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Drank for 2011 new years dinner. Perfectly cellared. Moist cork. Deep garnet in color. Dark fruit initially on palate. Perfectly balanced and integrated fruit/acidity/tannin. Lasts 30 seconds from start to finish, so not a long taste profile, but finishes on your palate so you can begin the next.

Deep black cherry color typical of Talisman wines. Fruit forward berry nose of medium intensity. Nicely integrated on the palate. Dark fruit flavor begins first, followed by an earthy yet-not-grounded flavor on the mid-palate. Warm sensation (from alcohol) on the finish with balanced, light tannins. Very smooth and integrated. Showed well on the second day as well.

Delivers a balanced, poised Pinot initally on the palate. Dark Black Cherry, fruit forward. No surprises within the first hour, except that this was a very good, integrated, balanced fruit-forward pinot. Dark bing/black Cherry hits first, a strong backbone of acidity frames the fruit next. Tannins are soft and refined.Gains complexity after an hour. Becomes more integrated. the nose is much more complex. Slightly earthy quality. My suggestion would be to decant for one hour before serving between summer of 2010 and December of 2010. Drinkable now, but could cellar for the next few years easily.
