Was looking forward to this, having recently retrieved for the wine society's cellars - however, pretty disappointing; not much botrytis on the nose or palate but initially decent honey, pineapple tones which are then overwhelmed by massive acidity - not balanced at all and a very long 'sherbet lemon, pinched face' after taste at the back of the mouth. Insufficient sweetness to carry the acidity means this never feels right.

Initial impression sweet in the mouth but massive acidity - made to make your mouth water, and some! Couldn't get past it. Almost sour - and sweet but wow that's sour too. Novelty value high but unsatisfying.

I was gob-smacked at how good this was, opened on our son's 13th birthday. 99 was a pretty good year for champagnes and we have some belters stored up for his 18th, 21st etc. A quiet Chinese supper at home warranted something to mark the occasion and I opened the first of these for a pre-prandial toast -and that was the right word, a lively mouse and a toasty nose was matched by real depth - brioche, balanced acidity and a long, long finish - wow! The first from a case that cost only £20 a bottle which I thought I'd use to mark the less auspicious birthdays and save the Grand Annee, DP, Krug et al for the biggies. Now I'm looking forward to the others too! The photo isn't the same bottle I opened (curvy bottle) so I will update although given the low volume of tasting notes it might just be for my own benefit

Double decanted an hour before drinking, doesn't look to have aged with firm deep colour at the rim. All leather and tobacco on the nose which carries through to the mouth. Still firm tannins at 15 years, this gives every sign of having plenty of legs yet. Drank over 4 hours during and after coq au vin and it didn't change much at all. Enjoyable but I had hoped it might soften and be more approachable after a few hours. The only bottle I had and I doubt I will ever see another 97, shame as another 5 years would a good review point.

Medium straw colour, healthy medium mousse & toasty aromas but with unexpected depth and length. Served 3 bottles with pre dinner canapes for 7 people (daughter's 13th birthday) and received very favourable comments - bit of a surprise only because I wasn't expecting too much. Still fresh enough to give confidence that it has a few years happy drinking ahead - will try again on her 18th and and compare with the Alfred Gratien 97's waiting for that event.

Opened two bottles with rack of lamb. Bottles consistent, only slight hints of aging and great example of a mature Bordeaux from a decent vintage, earthy, leathery, tobacco - rewarded patience and opened beautifully over a couple of hours, certainly worth decanting.
Light in colour, restrained nose not giving much away - not decanted but not too chilled either - lacked any buttery element, reasonable fruit, balanced but nothing exciting. Had two bottles to drink with lamb but no demand for the second

Deep orangey brown colour, nose of honey and citrus, quite cloying and rich, not enough acid to carry the weight. The least good of the 90's I have tried recently, but maybe that's to be expected given I'm comparing with Tour Blanche, Suduiraut and Rieussec.

Light straw colour, nose of apricot and pineapple, intense and powerful on the palate but remarkably clean and fresh. 30 Second aftertaste. Leaves you wanting more! So pleased I have another 6 bottles to drink and I think this has the legs to let me take another 10+ years.
