To Laura at the Wine Vault for her dinner
Red
Needs 30 min to come together in the glass, The wine looks garnet colored with bricking. The legs are fast, light sediment in the bottle. Earth and floral on the nose, but I have allergies so I am sure I'm missing some of it. On the palate the fruit is deep and dark, coffee and cola notes already. Dense and meaty with a long finish of dark fruits, stewed plum, coffee, earth and minerals.
Red
2007 Château Langoa Barton St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
On day two, developed quite a bit of complexity after two hours in the glass, a little dark fruited, even a slightly stewed plum, with cedar and oak and a minty note, aromatics coming and going, tart on the palate with plum, cigar box and a bitterness on the midpalate that turns into a chocolatey note with a hint of vanilla. This needs air and is surprisingly much better on day two which seems to indicate it's still got life ahead of it.

2014 Château Pavie Macquin St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
My bottle seems to be shut down. Very little fruit on the nose, maybe cranberry oak and cedar, a hint of rose petals, and an unpleasant hint of sourness; last night it took 5 hours for cherry and chocolate tannins to integrate with a hint of spice, then it was quite palatable. Day 2 I thought might be better but it's been over two hours in the glass and on the palate its cranberry and tart cherry, a hint of espresso and earth with a bit of spice and an borderline unpleasant sourness on the finish--it's still not integrated. I suspect in an hour this will be worth drinking but wow. Id wait a while before trying another bottle.

UPDATE: I think the bottle is off.
White
Golden yellow. Lemon, white peach and honeysuckle, some white flowers, some stony mineral notes on the nose; lemon and saline notes on the attack w almost tropical flowers and powerful mineral and stone quality on the mid palate with lemon, flowers, and long pepper spice on the medium long finish. This is incredibly interesting and definitely good on its own for contemplative sipping. More akin sensually to a new world SB with powerful terroir influence, than Spanish Albariño.
Red
This bottle needs to be open at least a day to show its best. On the first day it hasn't come together, even with an hour and a half decant. It's got red fruit, the acidity is a bit unbalanced and there is heat on the back end of the palate. On day two it is a spicy, earthy pinot, red fruits, raspberry, a hint of sous bois and baking spices on the nose, cherry and stony mineral notes on the attack, with peppery spices and earthy notes on the midpalate, a gorgeous red cherry and baking spice--cinnamon, nutmeg-- finish. Worth just a taste on day one. It's a knockout on day 2.

I find these Rieslings very sweet esp, 2013, but the 2012 has a wonderful acid streak that makes it feel like you are drinking a lemon ice sorbet, beautiful wine.

White
Interesting bouquet with lime, lemon, and earthy notes; lime, mineral and saline notes on finish. Feels like it needs a couple years to tame the acid and put on weight, a really serious SB.
White
Nice SB with a bit of weight to it, good food wine.
White - Sparkling
Delicious, rich, fine mousse, lemon curd, brioche and toast. Lovely champagne. Best day 1 and day 2, a little tart on day 3 but still with fine persistent mousse.
Red
2005 Château Aney Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Beautiful elegant cabernet-dominant bordeaux blend in its prime. My bottle had no sediment. Garnet colored in glass, still has time. Flint, forest floor, bell pepper, blueberry and blackberry and cassis on nose--considerable secondary and teriary notes but not obscuring the fruit. It tastes like raspberry, black currant (cassis), forest floor, espresso, lead pencil and cinnamon. Very balanced with medium body and silky texture. Excellent with eggplant and also on its own. Just right and not too much, like Jil Sander clothes.

Red - Fortified
Lovely with leather and spice taming the sweetness of the fruit. An excellent port. I am using the Coravin Pivot system to drink these vintage ports and it's great.

Gorgeous transparent ruby, strawberry, funk, and alcohol vapors on the nose, comes together with strawberry, candied peach, spice, stone and slightly unbalanced with a lot of heat on the finish. Quaffable, but went poorly with my cheeseburger, maybe there’s a better food pairing with something that has saffron in it. Agreed, terrible QPR.
White
Lemon ice with green notes, on the sweet side. Pretty. 2012 has more acid.

Translucent ruby, light bricking at rim, slow tears, full bodied red. Blackberry, Stewed strawberry, plum, licorice, mint, thyme, in a bed of potting soil. Earth and fruit on the palate with bright red currants on the midpalate and a lot of spice. Some heat from the alcohol. Big warm climate wine, needs an hour of air to thin out the stewed fruit. Nice complexity.
White
The wine is light yellow, fast legs. Aromas of lime, stewed pear, and earthy, some mineral, and mushroom with a hint of vanilla orchid. It tastes like a fine lemon ice, with the tart lemon compactly accented with mineral and earthy notes, with black pepper, verbena and a saline quality on the medium long finish. Light to medium bodied, the wine has juicy texture and a delightful acidity. This embodies why I love Jura Chardonnays, it is so perfectly refreshing and satisfying.

Still drinkable! For a second it came into its own, with beautiful fresh dark cherry tones along with blood and dried earth and a hint of spice.

Needs at least an hour decant to come together. The reward is a beautiful cherry note on the nose, with strawberry, redcurrant, menthol and sous bois. The wine is smooth and light bodied, tastes of radiant tart cherry, a little soft on the midpalate, with a mineral touch and good acidity on the long finish. A nice light Blaufrankisch.

My experience with this style of Blaufrankisch is the best versions continue to evolve for days, peaking on day 3 or 4. I just opened this bottle but it reminds me of the Rosi Schuster Blaufrankisch which is excellent.

This wine is drinking beautifully right now, all dark fruit with integrated tannins and muted acidity so its just delicious. Best wine of the night.

Coravined; this is delicious. Wow. Out of the gate the wine is ruby with a clear rim, medium legs, beautiful aromatics. Raspberry and blackberry fruit are dominated by earthy tones of forest floor and wood, with a touch of cinnamon, rose, and mint. The palate is complex and dominated by red toned fruits, primarily cranberry and cherry, with a hint of strawberry enveloped in mineral tones, leather, cinnamon, and a peppery spice with a hit of menthol. This wine is magic.

The favorite bottle of the night, alongside a 2004 Michael Chiarlo Reserva. This was in perfect condition, a beautiful brick color, translucent, floral and earth and dust and cherry on the nose, and high toned cherry, tar, earth and faint spice on the palate. Med long finish, we all wished we had more than the one bottle I had. Drinking beautifully now. Excellent with baked clams. penne vodka and roast chicken.
Red
Translucent garnet with slight bricking at the rim. Smoked meats, dark plum, black cherry, eucalyptus, dried flowers on the nose. Black cherry, spices, wonderful elegant midpalate with mineral tones, long finish, still grippy tannins.

2008 Château Meyney St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
This 2008 Chateau Meyney was a very pretty light bodied red, elegant, with an aromatic nose of cassis, spice and earth with a hint of vanilla, after an hour decant, and cassis, earth, spice, pencil shavings, and mineral tones on the palate. Everyone loved it, its a nice food wine, but also pretty and elegant on its own. It made the 2018 Grimms vineyard Cabernet which was also at the table taste like spicy oaked grape juice.

Tasted at a dinner, needs a 30 min decant. The people who tasted made a point to say how much they liked it, "it's so hard to find a really good light red." The wine is a beautiful translucent garnet, soft berry and raspberry on the nose with a little soil and damp earth, on the attack it has complex and delicate spice notes that lead into a soft, dark fruited (plum, blackberry) midpalate, ending with an elegant, mineral finish.
White
Fragrant, sweet, floral and honeyed aromas, sweet and green on the palate. Like drinking a honeysuckle flower. Very pretty.

I bought this for $26.95 at some unknown point in time in the early 10s and promptly forgot about it in my EuroChef wine fridge for 7 years and then the ancient temp controlled wine cellar in my new house. I Coravined my bottle today and let it air out for 30 minutes. I was skeptical, but it poured a gorgeous garnet with slight bricking towards the edge, and a clear rim. After an hour decant it has blueberries, berry bramble, dark fruits, smoke, bacon fat, and floral notes on the nose, red fruits on the attack with blackberry, white pepper notes and spice, good acidity and well integrated tannins still present, a medium finish. Absolutely delicious. Astonishing value syrah.

Lemon curd, white flowers, honey, vanilla. Smooth, precise, oaky. High alcohol but in good balance, for lovers of Napa Chardonnay.
Red
Soil to glass transfer wine! Beautiful florals on the nose as well as smoke, leather, roasted meat, tobacco, espresso; incredible palate of distinct black olive tapenade, iron, cigar box, chocolate, and dark rich mineral earth. Such a complex and undeniably beautiful wine, perfectly ready to drink now. Like drinking a painting.
