Stunning bottle of Barolo verging on middle age- tar, sandalwood, violets and chestnuts on the nose. Lovely texture and energy on the palate, which is cherry dominated fruit. terrific now, will only get better.

From Lyle: The fruit is raspberry-like with some red currants as well as focus and precision you just won't find in many wines. It is packed with terrific crunchy and ripe tannin and is just crazy pure and has vivid fruit that is similar to the SS from Lapierre.

This is from a 1.5 ha parcel with the vines being 60 years old. It is vinified with natural yeasts and has no SO2 added. Normally Julien bottles his Regnie cuvée with 10 mg/l S02 but in 2014 he also made 500 bottles of a "sans soufre" cuvée. The big question is how much of a difference does the 10mg make? A lot. It's is very noticeable. The fruit is cleaner and there are no hard edges or the sometimes sharpness you get from the S02.

Regnie is the most recently created Beaujolais Cru when it was given Cru status in 1988. Of the "lighter" crus, it is the most full-bodied but it is no Morgon or Cote de Brouilly.

Consumed for my birthday over the weekend. Purchased direct from the winery via a NYC retailer- sometimes it is good to just ask!
This is stunning. Incredibly dark for such an old wine, with incredible aromatics- stones, cement, black raspberries. The palate matches the nose- pure fruit with a light touch.
No idea how long this will go!

It's been a long wait for the HAG wines, but I was thrilled to see the (birthyear) labels and open one of this up. Lovely nose with a hint of vanilla, some violets and raspberries. The palate was a touch on the light side- very elegant with just a hint of bitterness on the finish- improved with time in the glass- not a blockbuster, but a very enjoyable wine and one where the nose outstrips the palate at this stage.

I've been down on '97 Tuscans for a while now and actually thought I had sold all that I had- I ran across this in the cellar and decided to try it- really glad I did- it is a terrific sangiovese- dusty, ripe cherry fruit, some tobacco and rosemary. much better than I expected.

I wrote this note 3 years ago and the wine hasn't changed one bit- still delicious!
opened one night earlier, vacu-vined and refrigerated. Beautiful nose with roses, ripe, crushed black cherries, smoke and iodine. The palate has tremendous minerality, pure ripe cherry fruit, with a lot of power wrapped in an elegant frame. I thought this was absolutely delicious.

Hard to know where to start on this. It's Sumoll- indigenous to the Penedes region but hardly ever used anymore- not allowed in DOC wines from the region! Decanted for about 1.5 hours before trying, it was just too intense at that point to enjoy, while still being intriguing as hell. About an hour later it had finally calmed down enough to drink- incredibly silky and rich, without being over the top at all, the is simply fantastic. we'll see what this is in 5 or so years. Great Chambers St. find.

Insanely great nose, but the palate is marred by spikey acidity that never quite goes away. It didn't ruin the wine for me at all, but did knock it down a few notches. Acidified?

Over the past year i've become intrigued with the wines of Galicia; Ribeira Sacra the foremost amongst them for me- They have the pure fruit and rocks I love from the Rhone ans are usually fresher and lower in alcohol than today's rhones- This was the first Valdeorras I've tasted and it was fantastic. Tasted over 2 nights, Juicy is the word that comes to mind again and again. Stony as well- at $15, this is ridiculous value.

inspired by the recent beserkers thread on '98's I pulled this bottle out to try last night- a touch early it turns out. Right now, this is all about stones with some granite thrown in. Definitely shut down, but the minerals bode well for a very good wine when the fruit is uncovered. Not so smart to assume a Barthod would be open just yet.

I'm very sensitive to the '04 mean greens, and opened this with what turned out to be unfounded trepidation. The color was actually a bit browner than you might expect. It has a touch of the raw green on the nose, but it was intermixed with a lovely floral component and a rich red berry-ness that dominated the nose. The palate was fantastic- no rawness, lightweight, powerful, well-balanced- drinking really well right now. Great bottle.

I used to love Sicilian wines and then they seemed to lose their way a bit (sound familiar?). been slowly dipping my toe back in and saw this at Chambers. it is exactly what I'm looking for from Sicily- there's some wildness here alongside rich dark fruit. a little weirdness on the backend at first that blew off with time.
really like this.
