Blackcurrant nose, tight and refined. It definitely seems closed with a lot to give. No noticeable tannins but there is a structure there to give it a decent life. Light fruity long finish

5/1/23, 5:28 AM - SA produce some stunning wines - good mix of old and new world. Shame they are hard to get in Chicago

Disappointing. Flat and neither bottle showed or came alive. Based on these two bottles, passed its best and not so good.

11/2/22, 12:48 AM - Would definitely pop one. Maybe it is the wet 2002 vintage showing after 20 years? Storage shouldn’t be a factor for the wines we drank as all stored in the same facility.

We drank the wine blind alongside a 2001 Meerlust Rubicon, 2001 SLV Fay and a (2004?) Gralyn. The Bordeaux was everyone’s least favourite and the Rubicon WOTN (it does have history of beating Bordeaux wines mind).

Hope this helps - maybe best not to line it up against others too and enjoy on its own?

Deep dark and a little bit of lusciousness. Cassis, berries and pencil. Then it broods to a lovely, long fading finish

1/18/22, 5:53 PM - As it was out at Christmas lunch my guess would have been about a couple of hours? Normally ask the location to decant when we arrive so my the time we hit it, my guess would have been is sat there for a couple of hours. Hope this helps.

White
2017 Vie di Romans Pinot Grigio Dessimis Friuli Isonzo
On a list of 3 whites, didn’t expect something so interesting. Suspect a lot of customers return it as ‘off’. Colour is a light rose, crystal clear. Nose is woody, some apples and hints of moss. Palate is heavy, almost chewy. Can’t say it was particularly enjoyable. Long finish but not one I savoured.

A wine for a wine dinner, or a tasting, but not one of three on a hotel list.

7/15/21, 6:01 PM - It’s certainly an interesting wine and some debate if it was off but there was no hint of cork or oxidisation. The wood was very much like an oaked Chardonnay wood and the moss a dry, crisp, herb like nose. I actually brought the half bottle we had left home to taste and study. If it was off then a new ‘off’ for me. Certainly an interesting wine and one I’ll spend some time this weekend finding out more about .

Doesn’t really do it for me, as much as I want it to! Buttery nose, maybe some burnt notes too. Lacking fruit now but more butter but mid palate is flat. Finish lingers but not what I want I was hoping to sip and savour on my 50th.
