Dark colour, showing a little age but not much. Tart cherry then moss on the nose. Palate is beautifully balanced. Some soft subtle plump dried fruit - figs come to mind is matched by soft refined tannins. Finish is good with structure and some more tannins which indicate a few more years left.

Hints of straw followed by leather (but not barnyard) on the nose, quite lean too. This leanness comes though in the palate as well. Hints of blackberry and that earthiness coming through and then an wonderful long lean finish.

The leanness is like a well honed athlete, not a scrawny old man. Am sure this will go on to develop into a wonderful old saddle of a wine but glad I opened it now.

Deep, dark dense colour. A little smokey note on the nose ,some brambly fruit. Palate is surprisingly soft but the fine tannins come through slowly from the back for a taut, long finish.

Little on the nose, some blackberry? Palate is lovely with meatier notes and plushness that leads to a wonderful
fine tannic finish. Good long finish makes this a great wine and great value.

Stewed berries on the nose, juicy palette with a good balance of acidity and tannin. Decent finish. Surprisingly quite a bit of sediment too.

Lovely soft nose which followed through on the palate of soft apples. Stricking acidity and probably lacked some minerality to balance everything up. Last well through the evening.

This had a very bretty nose which eventual faded to reveal a structured wine but lacking a little fruit. Worth waiting a few years before popping another.

A lifted nose of light fruit - blackcurrants, some blueberries, hints of raspberries even. Palate comes through with more body to support, super fine tannins keeping everything 'light' but definitely the structure is there for a long life with a super long finish with the tannins holding on for minutes!

Drank on the day of a dear friend's memorial. Torbreck was his favourite producer and a fitting way to say goodbye. RIP Mark

This has lost a lot of it’s ‘edginess’ and had filled out. Hints of petrol on the nose but still and great crisp Riesling on the palate.

Buttery nose with hints of nuts - cashew? Palate has some citrus/lime notes. And a wonderful long finish. This is lovely balanced and has long life ahead of it.

Still showing some rough edges - maybe needs more time, maybe it won’t turn the corner. Certainly some acidity there which won’t soften. The ‘09 is certainly starting to show it’s quality over the ‘10

This was the wine of the 4 last night. Maturing nicely and showing subtle secondary flavours and a balance rounded palate. Finished off on day 2 and still drinking wonderfully.

A little flat for a Dom, or maybe a little ‘fat’? Lacked the brightness of other Dom’s. Seemed slightly plusher and riper than normal.

A little bit ‘prickly’ with dry spiciness I wasn’t expecting. Lacking any real plushness and the finish was not much either. Pleasant but not memorable or noteworthy

An inky red colour and legs in the glass hint at what is to come. A reticent nose with hints of herbs and the faintest whiff of dried but succulent fruit give little more away. The palate brings Tuscany though with a clear Chianti profile carried on a full body and fine and plentiful tannins. A hit of fruit is soon knocked aside for a long puckering finish that both indicates a long future but also raises alarms as to whether this has the balance to mature well.

A little too structured for my liking of a good Chianti Classico. No doubt a good wine but lacks a sense of its home.

No real notes taken but a lively lemon vintage. A real intensity and hint is satsuma maybe behind the strong summer lemons. Finish seemed a little short - maybe because more crisp than buttery in style?

A little bricking colour and an initially a lovely Barolo nose but went porty quite quickly. Hints of classic rose Barolo came back later but still quite a fumey nose. Palette has lost its fruit and comes through quite dry. Not what I was hoping for.

An aged ruby colour but no bricking. Leathery nose plus minty herbs top notes. Super supple palette, tannins fully integrated making for a plushness that marries the last of the berry fruit with a subtle secondary note leading into a super long finish topped off with a mild spiciness. Superb.

Still a deep dark crimson but signs of a little age around the rim of the glass. Nose is a little reticent, dare I say even fumey? But some dried herbs and hints of roast meat notes come through with a whiff of fruit still there. Palate is tight and dry and holding back for years to come. The finish is super long.

In conclusion, it’s still to early to drink - I think another 7 years and we might start to see this as a fully mature wine.

Wet slate nose but palate is a little reminiscent of wines from my youth. A good dry flinty finish rescues it a little bit then the acidity makes the finish a little wobbly

Still bright and clear with a green tinge to it. Nose is buttery and some oak and a little kiwi lurking in the background. Almost no signs of age!
More of the same on the palate plus good acidity and an amazingly long finish that just holds its note!
No need to open another one of these for a few years.

Smokey nose, a little alcohol coming through but this doesn’t get anymore prominent on the palate. More wood on the plate and some dried fruit. Long finish, little heavy but overall showing nice mellow notes as it ages

Mature and drinking beautifully if a little understated. None of the bright fruit seen in younger Dom's but hasn't developed the breaded notes seen recently in a '98. Sitting in between with an integrated palate, some minerality and a light mousse.

Beautiful! Really soft, subtle and mature. A little hint of dark berry fruit still on the nose and palate but this is so well integrated and rounded that it's the overall that shines rather than the elements.
Drink now and I would suggest it has a few years left in its sweetspot if you can resist!

This was a much debated wine!
Initially the nose was ALL barnyard to be almost unapproachable. Behind this was a dried strawberry palate and a long finish. However, this wine changed several times throughout the evening and was still giving lots to think about at the end of the night with a rich palate and a long, lingering finish. Lovely.

Cork crumbled but managed to extract most of it. Nose isn't good, 'pub carpet' was one description! Hints of it being corked so not too hopeful. Palate though was good, mellow and smooth, definitely at the end of its days. Hints of plums and weak tea, soft tannins at the start of the finish last through a reasonable finish.

OK, this was popped and poured but didn't really hold my attention tonight. Little nose, maybe some dark fruit, leather and peppers followed by fumes. This followed through on the palate then a strong tannic, although very fine and integrated finish and a hit of alcohol.

To be fair as well, not in the best frames of mind and in that respect, probably hit the mark as a nice wine after a while of not drinking wine....

Drank along with a host of 1st class Shiraz (HOG, Grange, Astralis, Landonne, Runrig) and unfortunately didn't really stand up to them (to probably pipped the Landonne - my other wine :( )

Seemed a little volatile in terms of changed more than the others. Will sit on the last bottle.
