Sadly my last bottle, but only improving at age 13. Seamless balance with plenty of structure remaining. Powerful nose with some added complexity and nuance to the usual Saxum fruit. Disproving the tired mantra that big Paso Rhones won't age.

Visually off-putting. Thick, cloudy, milky appearance that seems to be more than just sediment. That said, the wine is delicious. Dark fruit with some smoke and savory notes. Nice structure, but no hard edges at all. Great wine.

Been tasting about a bottle a year. Recent bottles have shown quite tart and sharp, causing concern about aging potential. This one returns to form showing more weight and fruit and a seamless texture. Very nice.

Firing on all cylinders. Packed with dark fruit and some olive/pepper/savory notes. Plenty of structure yet no hard edges. Zero heat. While in no danger of fading, no need to wait on these.

A wow wine! Deep dark fruit, with some pepper and smoke. No heat and oak in check. Terrific rich texture, but not ponderous. Although this bottling is no more, hopefully, Morgan continues to make some syrahs in this bigger style. It is a style he does very well.

Drinking well. High acidity/tartness of initial bottle off the truck has already decreased with later bottles showing darker and deeper fruit. Still benefits from a short decant. Very nice and killer QPR.

Last of 5 bottles. Has really evolved from bottle 2 years ago. Showing much less fruit . . . nearly stripped of any ripeness/sweetness. Smoke, ash, savory aspects now dominate. Atypical of a papa's syrah, which has always been a favorite. Perhaps some bottle variation or flaw. Drink up.

Glass on pop and poor was very/tart acidic and disjointed, set bottle aside as it was not offering much. Next day the remainder of the bottle showed very well, picking up weight and darker fruit. Needs extended air at this point or addtional age.

Deep rich fruit, but not jammy or sweet. Perfectly balanced with acidity and some noticable tannins providing structure. No heat. A great wine.

No fizziness in this bottle and while still tart and acidic, much easier to drink. Good summer wine which calls for food.

Dark and lush with smoke/meat elements. Should improve as oak recedes. Very nice and hopefully a style Morgan doesn't completely eschew.

Some noticeable fizziness which blew off in the glass. When remainder unscrewed the next day, it emitted gass like a 2-liter soda bottle. Crisp, citrusy, and quite acidic.

Decanted an hour. Typical rich James Berry fruit. Tannins have receeded, but enough acid to provide structure. Polished and complex flavors, long finish and no heat.

Very nice showing for my last of 4 bottles. Rich black fruit but not at all sweet. Pepper, meat, mocha. Well balanced with a lot of complexity. Seems to have the structure to continue going strong.

Tart red fruit and a bit out of balance now. Fruit seems to have receeded from earlier tastings, leaving more prominant acidity and tanins. Much prefer the 09 at this stage.

Bottle from a year ago showed overripe, stewed and pruney and was dumped. This bottle was opened with no expectations other than to braise some lamb shanks. Lo and behold it is completley different -- an easy drinking, ripe yet balanced zin with no flaws. Either there is dramatic bottle variation or a year of age did wonders. In any event, kudos to Morgan for acknowledging the problem and issuing refunds -- though this bottle does not warrant it. Perhaps a victim of a too early release.

Tight and disjointed at this stage. Oak sticks out (not surprising). I really enjoy Bedrock and am not adverse to bigger wines, but this was hard to drink and probably needs time to integrate.
Update: poured half in a 375, into the refridgerator and opened two days later. Remarkable transformation . . . dark fruit, smoke and game notes. Really opened up and came together. Very nice and happy to have another stashed away. Try a lengthy decant if opening now.

Tart, high-toned red fruit. Solid, straightforward zin, but not much more. A bit disjointed at this point. Perhaps it needs more time to come together.

On day two this improved significantly -- added depth and weight. Definitely needs age or a lot of air

Big, dark, meaty syrah. Oak sticks out a bit right now. I love that Morgan makes wine in a variety of styles. This is certainly a lush and forward wine, but not over the top and a great example of the style.
