A delicious surprise. Fruit, earth, tannins... everything held together beautifully for about 45 minutes.

10/24/21, 12:31 AM - the "for about 45 minutes" part had me in stitches. About to see how fast I can drink with this thing as its large format.

PnP and my mistake, it needs time out. Like 3 hours out. First sips were just overbearing. It just needs its space to mellow out. Dark ruby in the glass and fairly opaque, swirls heavy. Nose was a brutish then lightened up after like 4 going to 5 hours as I was slow sipping. But red berry, sharpie markers, bell pepper, vanilla, mint on the nose. Palate follows through darker red fruits, cassis, vanilla extract, wet oak, and super firm tannins jumping up immediately to join medium(+) acid in the middle and driving the finish. Its potent and needs time to come together more or settle down. I have one more and I'll keep an eye on notes as it is not a check in next year thing. [For now] Not my pick as a food wine yet unless super heavy fair or serious decanting. Some sediment so take steps on the last glass or during prep. Huge upside for a bottle I am unfamiliar with and want to track and know more about now.

3/13/21, 10:17 PM - @jenmermaidia, happy to help, yes, this needed time. I did not some in too long ago so not sure if bottle shock played in, but even after a fairly sizable timeout, its got a punch.

@JohnTelford, yeah, 5 hours, was distracted with some home things and time passed quickly. I do let things sit. Wine I'm having tonight is on hour 5 of that.

Jesus I read the prior reviews to make sure I was sane after my notes. Talk about variability. Maybe I kept it better. Who knows. Alright...

This is good juice. Deep inky purple, opaque as hell, stiff legs. 15 years, and not even flecks of orange on the rim. Multiple light sources and tones, no signs of age. Its in the middle, simple reason why because it tastes like its in the middle of evolving. Decanted 4 hours.

On the nose, its black/purple fruits all day, ripe plum foremost, light blackberry, sweet vanilla fun dip stick very present, oak, lilacs, and black tea oddly enough. I drink a shitload of tea. Its a fantastic nose, and not all at once, it took time to sing well. Nothing unpleasant. Palate, sweet stewed plums, rich like, blackberry, its smooth and pleasant in acidity. vanilla coats the mid with a medium(-) acidity and ripe smooth tannins moving to the back and a medium(+) finish.

I am thrilled to have one left, and its going to sit for at least 2 more years to see what happens before I get greedy and want this again.

Overly exceeded expectations compared to others. My 93

deep red. soft, rich nose of ripe, dark, berries; a mineral-tinged floral touch emerges slowly and is quite attractive. velvety, rich, mouthfeel and very ripe, touch jammy fruit, with the typical gluey merlot character fairly prominent. fair amount of tannin. should improve for at least 3 years.

Terrific gewürztraminer. Bought at auction 8 years ago and in my cellar since. Now just getting around to opening. I am, admittedly, a big fan of gewurztraminers in the ZH style. This is not quite as sweet, and has a bit more minerality and litheness relative to many of the ZH wines. One of those wines that screams sweet and yet has dryness on the palate. Classic gewurz lychee and tropical fruits. Rich, but not cloying. Hint of rosewater. just yum. I'd buy more of these if I could. This was a steal at less than $20 I paid.

    Appreciate any thoughts,

Taste of Mendocino, first time with these terrific wines, nose of melon, lime, lemon, and citrus, medium body, tasty, great QPR at $25, and the cheeses they produce are terrific, good fruit, good acid, better if aged for another year.
